    549, I'm gonna get there. Since last season I've brought my average up from 149 to 169 and handicap down from low 70s to low 60s
    I'm getting 600!!!

    I recently switched from 1 hand to 2 hand bowling due to the tendons in my right elbow hurting. I have been enjoying the 2 hand techniques and have been using your tips to be more consistent with the new style. Please keep up the good work with the tips videos and I look forward to seeing more!

      I went to 2handed this year after roughly a decade of dabbling with it. It's slowly paying off.
      I still have a couple balls punched up with my thumb whenever I need to go "old school" tho haha. And I shoot my spares with my thumb in the ball too.

    Good stuff here. All a 600+ set truly entails is a strong foundation of basics. ANYONE who is armed with solid fundamentals can shoot a 600+ on any given night in any given house on any given pattern.
    Another tip is to crunch the numbers involved in a 600 set and track them religiously. Any bowler who wants to be competitive needs to understand that the numbers say EVERYTHING about your results. SO if I want to shoot 600+, I know that I need to produce the following numbers (in order of importance). I call these the "pillar stats" of bowling.
    Open frames per game = 2.5 at most. So 7-8 open frames in the set at most.
    Strike percentage = At least 33%. So at least 4 or so strikes per game. At least 12 across the whole set. Most 600+ sets have at least 15 strikes. Five per game.
    First ball average = At least 8.8. So if you count all of your first ball results you should have at least 270 or so for the whole set.
    9th and 10th frame pinfall = At least 35 per game. So at least 100 pins from your set should come from your 9th and 10th frames.

      Getting a little carried away from “the basics” here my guy. If you be be around the pocket consistently (good first ball count) and pick up your spares, you’re going to have a good shot at 600.

    • @SirJoelsuf1
      @SirJoelsuf1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@recess42 I get that. Fair enough. And you have a point: If you obsess about stats too much it's very possible to stray from the execution side of things.
      We're in agreement tho, and that's why I mentioned the stats part of it. Being "around the pocket consistently" usually yields a first ball average of at least 8.75. "Picking up your spares" means you only open at most twice a game.
      But there is more to it than that. There's how many strikes you have per game. There's how many pins you knock down during the 9th and 10th frame. These are just as important to a 600+ as being around the pocket and covering spares.

    I bowled a 600 series today. Literally, 600. I was in the 10th frame & had a strike which put me close to 600. I was pretty sure I would pass it -- my last strike was in the pocket and I felt good I could do it again. Next throw, hit the pocket... 7-10 split. Drats. How does that happen? Anyhow, took out the 7 and ended with a 600 even. Disappointed, but we won all three games and I did play well getting several strike streaks going when they were really needed. Such is bowling. When it comes to practice sessions, I wonder if anyone else has the same problem I do. I really go to practice bowling when it is not a league day and I will throw different angles, different balls, and experiment. I think it is fun. My score is irrelevant. But the people I'm playing with, they just keep going for strikes. When people walk by and look at the scores, there I am with a 125 or 150 and the other players are above 200. Everyone thinks I s**k. One day I was only trying to hit the 7 and 10 pins only and one person who looked on questioned my wife if I'm okay since I couldn't hit any pins in the middle. I'm practicing!!!!

      There are going to be people who judge your score and might make some comments, the practice trains you to ignore them and just focus on experimenting with bowling and become better everyday, also congrats on the 600 series, keep going.

    • @SirJoelsuf1
      @SirJoelsuf1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The way you're describing your practice sessions is EXACTLY how any bowler who wants to succeed at this sport is SUPPOSED to practice. Experimentation, drills, and adhering to the fundamentals will take you WAY farther than what your buddies are doing.
      By this time next year, if you keep up what you're doing and don't get injured or something, you'll be averaging higher than your buddies, guaranteed.

      lol. I have had the same thing happen when I’m practicing. To the point that I try to practice by myself and away from other people. In the past what killed my scores were spare’s specifically the 10 pin. I gotten better with it and that came from practicing, usually playing the low ball game like you have done only shooting at 10 and 7. I will throw at the 10 pin a second time even if I make it on the first. EVERYTHING I have ever seen about bowling is improving spare shooting, improves score. Keep up the good work and practice. Congratulations.

      Sometimes, on practice day, I do nothing but shoot 7s and 10s. I don't even keep score. I feel really good about my game at the end of that.

  • @SirJoelsuf1
    @SirJoelsuf1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    To provide an example of this, here are my "pillar" stats for the 615 I shot tonight:
    Open frames = 6; Exactly 2 per game
    Strike percentage = 52.7%; 19 strikes out of 33 first ball shots
    First ball average = 9.1; 301 pins out of 33 first ball shots
    9th and 10th frame average = 35.33; pinfall of 106 during the 9th and 10th frames in the set.
    Fun fact: I opened the 9th frame twice in my set. And never doubled any 10th frames. If I covered my spare or struck, that 615 could have ballooned to as high as 645 or so. If I covered my 9th frames AND doubled in the 10th, I would have been about 25 sticks away from a 700 set. That's why this stat matters.
    Most bowling stats apps on a phone will track those first three stats for you, but the 9th and 10th pinfall can be a little tricky. To get your 9th and 10th frame pinfall, take your score and subtract it by your pinfall after the 8th frame.

      @SirJoelsuf1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Know what? Let's make this comment a living document. Perhaps the guys at the channel can pin this to show the importance of tracking stats. Here are the "pillar" stats for the 611 I recently shot:
      Open frames = 3; exactly 1 per game
      Strike rate = 17/34; 50%
      First ball average = 8.9; 302/34
      9th + 10th frame average = 43; 129 pins during the 9th and 10th frames.
      Difference here? Two things. One, I struck a bit less. Also, I wasn't putting strikes together but covered more spares. If I had 19 strikes like the last set, it would have been as high as 650.

    I watched this video over 10 times and still cannot shoot 600 series. I ended up bowling 278 - 246 - 244 for a 768 Series. Rat's one day I will get my 600 Series Award.

  • @jesse75
    @jesse75 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's a numbers game.
    Example. I try to have at least 100 or more in the 6th frame.
    I have cut the game in half. Makes the game easier to think about and score.
    Next. The most important frames for me are the 3rd, 9th and 10 th frames.
    I can blow the first frame. And not much count is lost. But more loss if it's the 3rd frame.
    9th and 10th frame you can get the most count. So I have to make an extra effort for those frames.
    There's more strategy to the game of numbers, but you get what I'm saying.

    It's funny, but I would consider his "bonus" tip - spare shooting - to be the most important tip. Pick up all your spares and you just need a double in there and you're at 200. I would consider figuring out your spare shots to be at least as important as finding your line. In fact, I would consider finding your line to be more of an advanced strategy. Picking up your spares is THE MOST important ingredient to getting your first 600 series. You can AVERAGE 200 if you pick up all your spares.
