I think it would be better to put lowering springs on the adaptive suspension vs. making it static. Or possibly design drop spindles. There should be a way to get a lower ride height without such a compromise in functionality and ride.
I know it might sound stupid but I want to see how many G’s it can pull In corners with 200tw tires. I was disappointed with the understeer in most teslas but otherwise love them.
So whats going on with the battery? will it be the Panasonic or LG for USA? and what is your take on Tesla not upgrading the battery for the Performance? since it appears that the battery acutally holds it back concerning power delivery ....
USA gets Panasonic. The current battery achieves the performance goals tesla had with this car. This way they can give people a 10sec car for $50k will all the upgrades the highland brings. Sure they could have spent another 6 months and millions on a new pack specifically for this car to give it 600+hp, but then it would have been much faster than the model S LR. I guess they didn't want to do that.
I have a 2022 Model 3 Performance and I replaced the Uberturbine wheels right away for the T-Sportline Arachnid style wheels and tires. I love the looks much better than the Uberturbines and the new Highland Aero wheels. But I have to say that weight wise the new Aero wheels are winning. The Uberturbines were 32 lbs all around. The Arachnid I got are staggered 8.5 front and 10 rear and the weight is better at 27.7 lbs and 30.45 lbs. But the new Aero beats them all up with 22.72 lbs and 23.4 lbs. That is a BIG difference. Even with the Aero covers, I'm sure they will still be much better. I wanted to keep the looks I have now with the wheels, but when is time to change my Tesla, if I get another Performance model (in 3 years or so), I will leave the stock Aero wheels in place unless I find better looking ones like the arachnid and the weight is same or less (doubt it). Have to Say Tesla did a good job with the new Highland Model 3 Performance. Basically is a supercar killer for a fraction of the price and still can be used as a sedan for your family.
Following...curious to see what you guys take away from all the tear downs/upgrades. I should be getting a VIN and taking delivery any day now. Blue w/ Black interior.
10:13 I don't understand everey single word: Do I have to remove the wheel from the car to remove this ugly plastic parts from the wheel? I'm wondering how it looks if I remove the bigger plastics and let the small plastics on the wheel to cover the ugly holes. Maybe there will be a good 3rd party solution to cover the holes by the small plastics, without the original plastics. Free red calipers! 😉
11:48 about 10,6kg for the rear wheel, I think this is a very good weight for this size, good job! How much are the old performance wheels with less wide?
Putting 20x10 +45 on the front would be increasing the backspace by 0.93 inches. Factory front has a 6.34" backspace, rear has 7.27". I kept my aftermarket wheels staggered to not risk encountering any rubbing.
I can’t wait to see you guys dive in! I too swapped out as many compliant bushings on my 2021 and it seems Tesla copied all my upgrades and improvements!!! I have the 2024 performance on order and am concerned I will have to give up ride height adjustability. I am 1.25” lower in front and 1” lower in rear. I love the car raked. Will the adaptive suspension not like this??? I wonder.
Thanks for the ride height measurement. The '21 and older rides lower. In '22 and newer, Tesla rose the ride height. At least that what this teardown alludes to is that the new Highland still rides "high"
So the stock wheels are awesome AND lightweight - just remove the spring-loaded long aero caps and leave the small ones (to avoid those ugly ring holes in the spokes). Nice!
it would be more interesting to tune the suspension without losing adaptive suspension which is an interesting feature if the car is not a dedicated track car but also a daily driver

I think if the connections are different but the seats physically fit someone will make an adapter harness. They would make a mint!
