Pretty sure that's how their relationship stays balanced! He makes delicious food that gets a lot of praise and appreciation; and his ego doesn't get overinflated because she's also ready to "help" him curb messy/bad habits!!
Future Neighbor: Congrats on the new place! This porridge looks amazing! Thanks for continuing to post during this crazy pandemic! It's nice to watch something that has nothing to do with covid-19 for a change!
In Germany you give People salt and bread when they move into a new house . It is meant to prevent damage and bring health and wealth to the new home. So here you go: 🥖 🧂 The new home looks really great! Can’t wait for the tour! And the guk? Lovely!🤤
I’m a newbie to Korean cooking, and I really enjoy your videos. It’s a grey, rainy day here in Oklahoma and since I have some frozen shrimp, I’m going to try to make this for our lunch.
Cool kitchen, I love gas stoves too, I feel like it cuts cooking time in half. OH OH Daniel, put that in the laundry bag, RIGHT NOW!!!! Hahahaha we know who the boss really is, hahahahaaha, blessings neighbors
Ya know, if you are stuck with an electric stove and really like gas, get a butane stove. I have an Iwatani, cost $30-odd, a canister of butane, Korean "Volt" brand I buy at H Mart, lasts me over a week.
i just made it and it turned out really great! i didn't have stuff for the stock so i used a bit of miso soup base that i had in my pantry and it still was really good. 10/10 would recommend!!
Daniel and Katie, this was the first of your videos that I saw. I've been addicted since! This also was the first recipe of yours that I tried. Since then I've been trying more and more: spinach and doenjang jook, jjajangmyeon and some of your banchans. I was born in Korea and was adopted when I was eight so it's fun trying to cook the foods that I probably had when I was a kid. I've had them in restaurants and instant versions but it's different when you make them at home. :) Thank you so much for your videos. I will keep watching! ❤️
Just made this for breakfast and it was delicious! Though I had to substitute veggie broth for the anchovy broth, but 2 tablespoons of fish sauce gave me the fish flavor I wanted. Was a nice golden brown from the different broth but was great either way.
I'm going to make this porridge to take to work this coming week (sans the shrimp) for Monday. I work in healthcare and it's been rough working in healthcare during covid. It's hard going back to work on Mondays. Having this porridge at lunch will have a real calming effect and it looks so delicious! Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe! :) Your videos are really wonderful!
Just made your shrimp jjuk for breakfast. I cook Korean food all the time, but your recipe is excellent!!! The rice stir fried in the sesame oil is key and I liked using the broth, too. Thanks so much, husband really enjoyed breakfast!!!!
Mmm! Great timing! It has been pretty cold where I'm at, so this recipe is really going to hit the spot for me! 😋 Thanks for sharing this recipe with us!
Congrats on the new digs! And thanks for the recipe - my mom used to make us vegetable porridge all the time when we were young and I love the fresh take with shrimp!
I'm just watching the intro and my stomach is growling already.🤦 I'm watching this video as I am sitting in my car warming it up. As I prepare to go to work. And I'm just thinking I wish I could go back in the house and make this. It looks good. Just by watching the intro
For that umami taste, dried shiitake's are the bomb. You can just buy a bag of them and they'll keep, and you don't have to worry about their spoiling. Good brands are Roxy (Korean) or Shirakiku (Japanese).
The only thing I would change is adding the shrimp during last two or three minutes of cooking. Thanks for the video. As always, I learn so much from you.
Nice Pad , Danny Boy , very nice . I love your consideration for others by making this dish to help ease the present situations . Something lovely to eat with our family assists well-being 👌🏼💝 Keep well , stay safe 🙏🏼
Komsamida( just practicing one of the words I’ve learned watching Korean drama, they are sooo goodd😊) . Tomorrow I’ll be doing this delicious food 🍲! Il do this
yum!! this looks delish. we always have chicken congee so shrimp congee should be cool! my mum hates the 'fishy' smell tho.. do you think i could use chicken stock instead?
Looks so good! I have been craving shrimp and bought some but didn't have a plan yet. Now I know! I just need to get zucchini. I have medium sushi rice, not sure if I can get short grain but will try. Thanks for this video. Do you think it would turn out good with tofu?
I'm staying home because of COVID19, and many cooking videos pop into my page. If I stay home another two weeks without sun I'll look like vampire, but I"ll become good chef.....
This channel is so great ❤️ I love it. But I’m from Rio de Janeiro and it’s not that easy for me to find the ingredients but the food looks so delicious 😋 I’m looking forward to try it

My family and I have been soo stuck on Soy Bean Noodle Soup... I'm going to have to try this one now... I have those tiny brine shrimp in a hair can use or either frozen Smelts... either way will be a version of this.. TO-DAY... LOL. Thanks for sharing Dan-Yool 👋😉👍
In India particularly in Tamil Nadu (Southern State) - culture similar to Korea (Heo Hwang-ok and her legacy) prepare the same recovery meal Kanji for the people who were sick. We do not add anything (no veg or shrimp) with rice except few garlic cloves and salt. Cook the rice well with generous amount of water and very soft with garlic, smash them with water may be added little yogurt is optional - pouring consistency. Eat/drink hot kanji with side dish (touch of) hot & sour lemon pickle (similar to Kimchi). This is easy digestible food called in Tamil is "Kanji" for the recovering person whose systems may be weak to handle complex foods such as veg and meats for few days. Strong Hot and sour pickle really taste so good with this porridge for their tasteless tongue! A simple traditional easy digestible recovery food "Kanji" of Tamils. Kanji is also feed to small babies.
Ah! I'm so happy that TH-cam has decided to remind me that your channel is SO GOOD, and I'm sad that I forgot for so long! Dishonor on me. Dishonor on my cow!
Wouldn't recommend it. Brown rice doesn't break down as easily (due to the bran on the outside) as white, so you will have to cook much longer to achieve a somewhat creamy texture
Its around 1.30 am in India 😂😂its been 15 minutes since i watched the spicy tofu...i can't stop watching ur cooking ...n here i am developing cravings for a shrimp porridge..!😌😬😏😂😂😍😍❤❤🔥🔥
1:38 i was going to make a joke connecting short grain rice and short koreans but i couldnt think of a good one so you're going to have to try and think of your own joke.
The scolding at the end! 🤣🤣🤣 The food looks good!

Once we get some furniture in here, we will! Right now, its boxes, boxes, boxes!
This isn’t a suspicious request at all.

THIS WAS SO DELICIOUS!!! Thank you so much. It was so easy to make and modify. I had to use dashi stock instead. Tastes so nourishing.
"size that a hamster would like" 😂
nibble nibble
*happy weet noises*
Add the shrimp shells to the stock!
YES! Pro tip: fry them in the pan or pot first a little and then boil them into a stock!
no.
My mom is sick and I made her this when I was a kid but as an adult I had forgotten the recipe. It's her favorite. Thank you very much!
i just made it and it turned out really great! i didn't have stuff for the stock so i used a bit of miso soup base that i had in my pantry and it still was really good. 10/10 would recommend!!
Miso soup base!! Thank you for the idea for a substitute. I have some in my refrigerator!!
I've made this before but never thought about adding miso, thanks for the idea :)

I didn’t have dried anchovies but had dried smelt, the local store only had spicy marinated kelp so I used that too. This was delicious.
Hello! Anyeong! I am in USA isolated in quarantine alone with covid...loved your juk video...wish I could have! Hope to make when I can!

Can I ask what use are chive blossoms are good for in cooking.
I will make this for my family soon!
Are you referring to the asian chives that we used? They have a less onion-y taste than normal spring onion or green onions. Primarily used to give color to dishes.
Cooking your shrimp that long doesn't make it rubbery? Also have you ever tried making it in a rice cooker with the porridge setting?
😋 Thank you I tried to cook this today
if you cook the shrimp as long as the rice wont it get tough?
Looks bomb! Yummy!
