This album (Electric City) had me sommersaulting and cartwheeling in my mind - ecstasy - and THEN some! I was travelling then and took it everywhere - Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Mexico - and turn it UP. It put others through changes too!
1:50 to 2:09 is probably the most epic thing I have ever seen in my life. By far one of the best moments in jazz history that I can think of. The Elektric Band rules
Chick Corea helped to bring a new era to electric Jazz Fusion in the mid 80's, this video is a good example of some of that new sound. Also, check out Weather Report, Miles Davis and Spyro Gyra from this time period.
Chick is the man. Arguably the best remote keyboard player out there, unlike the pretty chicks strapped with Casio AZ-1 who were just posting instead of playing the instrument live.
Listen to him and the great Nick Maroch on the Lenny White “Streamline” recording!! You’ll hear a very young Marcus Miller!! All of them play fantastic!!!!!!
Does anybody have whole "Live Under The Sky '86" DVD? At the beginning of it, during the introduction of musicians, a crazy solo from "King Cockroach" is heard. I think it is breath-taking but can't find the whole song anywhere. You know something about this?
I love the KX5 more than any guitar, but I must say that this guy on the guitar is pretty damn impressive! I mean, this music is so NOT written for a guitar, and this guy plays it like it's a walk in a park. Love it.
I never realized Scott toured with Chick. I thought Chick and Scott parted ways after the first album before any touring. Scott was stellar and fit the band far better than Gambale. And what do you say about Dave Weckl, he was 26 years old here and blowing like a seasoned pro. But then again, he was playing like this at 20!
Anybody know why so many keyboard players in the 80's adopted the KX5 as their sling-on of choice with it's mini keys instead of the KX1 which is as far as I can make out identical but with full sized keys? Seems odd to me.
HA! It says, "Ramble" when it should say "City Gate." I'm sure they got it confused with "Rumble." The Japanese are saying, "Ah, Ramble, Rumble, what's the difference?" I love Japanese ppl by the way.
Ramble...Rumble...incorrectly titled or not...great music. Jeez...I remember just getting into drums at this time and everyone was making a fuss over this Dave Weckl kid...whatever happened to him? ;)
Chicks a REAL freak when it comes to the beautiful jazz fusion stuff but he needs a makeover lols !!!! Seriously tho, Amazing work !!!! Go Johnny Go !!!
Yeah, he make look like a nerd, but keep in mind this was the 80's. Also, he had paid his dues to look as nerdy as he wanted. Eighteen years before this he replaced Herbie Hancock as the piano player for the one and only Miles Davis.
Jamie Glaser is playing wrong notes all over those main figures lol. I wonder if this was right after Scott Henderson quit and before they got Frank Gambale and had to find someone who could fill in on the tour?
@@seukfuhi Well either his signal drops out or he flat out doesn't play notes at 1:28 ... wrong at 2:04 ... 2:31 ... something is off at 5:05 ... not trying to be a dick, I've just performed hundreds of shows and I know this is a tricky piece that if you just got hired for the gig you may not have every single note down quite yet. I can 100% sympathize with Jamie here!
Dude, I know the music is great - Chick is a great musician and that was never really the issue that created tension between him and Henderson. Even the 'douchy dance' wasn't really the 'big' reason. Scientology was.
I don't really understaand that side of Chick and ,as a musician,I know that in a band tensions can be generated and get really important for other reasons than music.I also find the ''dancing/moving'' parts really hilarious now as at that time. But ...i just take it as an unimportant side of Chick.Great time for music. The fusion years.
@senna01 amazing musicians, but they got sucked into making shit music for a while because of the trendiness of 80's techno...the wasted potential here is astounding. And I am a child of the 80's and even I dont get what this music was about.
I think the problem for some of the CCEB stuff was (especially on the first album) that it sounds just terrible because of the synth sounds going on. You can't get it more dated like this. Sounds literally like something which would come out of your nintendo game console. BUT, if you start analysing this then you will find that City Gate/Rumble is an amazing composition and f*cking difficult too. It really is a great study on motif development, voicings, voice leading, and counterpart. I think the tunes with the CCEB are really a hit and miss. Some are good, some are excellent, some are not so great. The band is always great in any formation and they actually covered a lot of territory in their shows by playing other things too. They did some of the RTF stuff, which was great. And the Elektric Band II (from the Paint the World album) even played standards from Coltrane etc.
"IN MEMORIAM": CHICK COREA (RETURN TO FOREVER / THE VIGIL / CIRCLE / ELEKTRIC BAND) (1941-2021)
亡くなったというニュースを聞いて、観に来ました。 これほどの衝撃を受けた曲はありませんでした。 聴いた直後は本当に呆然として動けなかった。
R.I.P. Chick Corea
God i miss this era, lol.
This album (Electric City) had me sommersaulting and cartwheeling in my mind - ecstasy - and THEN some! I was travelling then and took it everywhere - Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Mexico - and turn it UP. It put others through changes too!
RIP Chick. Terribly sad news today.
RIP Chick Corea from japan
1:50 to 2:09 is probably the most epic thing I have ever seen in my life. By far one of the best moments in jazz history that I can think of. The Elektric Band rules
During this moment, the audience is probably cumming itself, given how much the Japanese love and respected 1970s/1980s jazz fusion ~~~
Now I laugh, now I cry. Beautiful.
dave weckl with akai s950 sampler, and simmons sdsv drums......great sounds, great band, greats musicians....
Jiu-jitsu
The KX5 is fun to play. Damn, I wish I could play like Chick
2:00 esse baixista é um dos mais famosos do mundo
The songs are City Gate and Rumble. Both from the first album, 1986.
Pleasure to See this Chemistry !
Damn. One of the best live versions I've heard of City/Rumble. Great energy.

Chick Corea - Nite Sprite (Jazz fusion)
Chick is the man. Arguably the best remote keyboard player out there, unlike the pretty chicks strapped with Casio AZ-1 who were just posting instead of playing the instrument live.
Mindblowing, top performance from all parties.
Jamie played no wrong notes..he played best notes needed for the song always. That's why he was so amazing..
Love the digital watch shots, great performance too
i like this grove
Damn! I had forgotten just how "elektric" it was at the beginning, especially with Weckl.
Thank you!

Incredible
I Believe The Name Of this Song Is City Gate/Rumble. Jamie Glaser is a good guitar player...im gonna have to look him up.
Listen to him and the great Nick Maroch on the Lenny White “Streamline” recording!! You’ll hear a very young Marcus Miller!!
All of them play fantastic!!!!!!
i love it.

That RAMBLE is a great song isn't it?
I never realized Scott toured with Chick. I thought Chick and Scott parted ways after the first album before any touring. Scott was stellar and fit the band far better than Gambale. As soon as he starts playing the keytar @ 3:02, it starts to sound like something you would hear in an old sonic game.
Good old Yamaha FM synthesis at work!
Bill Pigg plugging away at the bass. Nice!

Rumble sounds SO much better with a guitar behind it. Kick-Ass!
Those echoy clean bits he's playing under make this the best version of the song for me.
Way back when this song was hot off the press...brand new.
🙏🎹🙏

Speaking of doing more with less - Check the Mac at 0:23 - Wonder if he splurged for the Mac+ or upgraded a 512 to 1MB RAM? ;)
Monsters of jazz fusión !!!
RIP Chick
@ricaard never mind, I read the credits...I remember Jamie!
Does anyone know if you get any of the "Live Under The Sky" concerts on DVD?

Yeah, he make look like a nerd, but keep in mind this was the 80's. Also, he had paid his dues to look as nerdy as he wanted. Eighteen years before this he replaced Herbie Hancock as the piano player for the one and only Miles Davis.

I really don’t hear wrong notes. Which passage are you referring to ?
@@seukfuhi Well either his signal drops out or he flat out doesn't play notes at 1:28 ... wrong at 2:04 ... 2:31 ... something is off at 5:05 ... not trying to be a dick, I've just performed hundreds of shows and I know this is a tricky piece that if you just got hired for the gig you may not have every single note down quite yet. Another reason Scott Henderson was let go - he hated that little douchy dance, those 'theatrics' Chick tried to get them to do.
