    I really like the physical health/fitness metaphor. It’s a way of saying there’s no “cure” without feeling hopeless. There’s no “cure” for your physical health/fitness either - you’ve gotta eat right and exercise your whole life. But as long as you do that, you’ll be physically healthy. Similar with mental health - you also need lifelong habits but as long as you do them you’ll be mentally healthy.

    Drew, being a big follower of Claire Weekes, what do you think of her claim that there is a 'cure' for anxiety?

    • @travisn346
      @travisn346 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No one needs anxiety and it is not the same as fear. Fear is essential. That's the difference and anxiety can be eliminated, returning you to normal fear responses.

      Thanks Travis N. I am working on eliminating the anxiety. Will be so glad just to have normal fear responses again🙂

      I would suspect that Dr. Weekes would say there is a "cure" for disordered anxiety, if she were to even use that words at all today. I think she was great at speaking to the general public so she used words like "solve problem" and "cure" at times but she was knowledgable enough to not promise anyone that they would never be anxious again. Only that they could learn to not let it become a total disaster if they were.

      @@TheAnxiousTruth My thoughts about "cure" is, you can not cure emotion such is anxiety. It is the same thing as if anyone ask can happyness can be "cured"?, or other emotions. Disordered anxiety on other hand is another thing and it can be put back in order, cured is the wrong word i think. I have expirienced this before been in anxiety disorder grips for years and then fully recovered to the point there i was totally forget about whole anxiety expirience. Now is back!

    From someone who’s struggled/ struggling with anxiety and depression and past traumas I will say that I tried EVERYTHING I came across because you feel soo freakin desperate to feel better so I read more books listening to hypnosis cds mp3s I’ve gone to hypnotists I’ve gone to energy healers tried Rxs cbd oil years of talk therapy Skyping with self esteem coaches spent tons of money 💰 that I didn’t have chasing a cure… It’s been the last year since finding the anxious truth and reading Claire weekes books that I came to realize that years of running from anxiety or self medicating and trying any type of quick fix that I saw ISNT GOING TO SOLVE OR CURE ANXIETY… I believe trauma and anxiety CAN BE HEALED … but we need to allow the feelings / sensations to be with us accept them and eventually you will train your brain YOUR OK YOUR SAFE .. I’m still dealing with anxiety 😟 and let’s face it if your anxiety was at a 10 from 1-10 after Covid came it skyrocketed to 20! 🤦‍♀️ I’m
    Finding that for me meditating helps yoga helps getting outside helps learning to have compassion for ourselves def helps….Breathing techniques helps also to send a calming signal to the amygdala thats helpful .. living in fight or flight for decades is not fun nor is it helping ..it’s the unexpected changes etc that can certainly trigger a panic attack for sure … The toughest thing is to allow the bodily sensations to be there because we are used to Not wanting to feel them but drinking doing drugs grabbing our phones are distractions and temporary bandaids these things tho I will admit ( been there done that ) will NEVER help heal but possibly TEMPORARILY take the edge off but then we are back at square one 😢.. CBT is helpful as well It’s important to have positive ppl in your life that will understand .. For me I feel that self compassion is huge We are NOT broken we just need to train ourselves that we can make new positive pathways in our brains 🧠 and by practicing selfcare We Can Heal live and thrive and be happy ppl that can be present and experience peace joy and calm Can’t give up ❤ 💪🏼🫵🏻you are important and we all have gifts that we can share that will help others Moving our bodies whether walking running jogging yoga stretches and breathing again all are helpful but as Mel Robbins says NOONE IS COMING .. no one is coming to change save or fix us .. WE HAVE TO DO THAT … It’s possible I just turned 60 I feel it’s a number but I don’t want to be where I am a year from now let alone 6 months from now but if I want to thrive and not just survive like I’ve been doing it’s up to me .. if it is to be it’s up to me .. Do I wish I found these things out 20 even 30 years ago yes .. but I can’t go back I need to go forward I appreciate the anxious truth .. and others that are on the same page like Dare.. we got this xo ❤🙏

    Do you consider yourself “recovered” from “anxiety disorder” that you experienced?

    • @TheAnxiousTruth
      @TheAnxiousTruth  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Completely 100 percent recovered. I am no longer interested in or afraid of how I feel with respect to anxiety. Maybe I'll be anxious today. Maybe not. I'll deal with things either way. Oddly, that tends to favor not being anxious but even if I do experience anxiety today for some reason, that's OK.

      @@TheAnxiousTruth Drew that feels so liberating! And at same time neutral state of living normal life. I expirienced this freedom for almoust 3 years. In that time was trying to remember past expirience of how is feels to be anxious. And not being able to recreate that fellings. Only thing is remembering it was awfull. Thinking hmm what was all that so scary about? But its again unoticable creeps back in life again. Maybe sentitization alone is not the problem but underlying character traits, overthinking and anxious behaviors that leads to sentitization flareup.

    lets take the language monster out of this, what is recovery, is it a period of remission then relapse if so life isn't worth living.

    • @TheAnxiousTruth
      @TheAnxiousTruth  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure where I said anything about a cycle of remission and relapse, but the cool thing about life is that nobody gets you tell you what to think or how to feel, including me. You get to interpret any way you wish and I don't get to argue with that.

      @@TheAnxiousTruth drew like what is the universal truth for anxiety recovery, there has to be one, especially for things like panic disorder.
