Gandhi and Godse - Elst and Bhyrappa

  • About this Talk :
In this talk, Dr. Elst believes that after India’s partition in 1947, Hindus were angry upon Gandhi’s appeasement policies of Muslims. RSS and Hindu Maha sabha were becoming very powerful because of a declining image of Gandhi. However, by murdering Gandhi, Godse gave him the status of Mahatma.
Apart from Hindu Gods they idolize events, people and places also. Hindus, once they began to idolize Gandhi as Mahatma it became impossible to criticize his appeasement politics and his bad policies. In fact, Nehru didn’t continue Gandhi’s policies but he used Mahatma’s name and status to fulfill his political ambitions.
Today many people are not convinced with Modi’s politics. But, Dr. Elst believes that Mr. Modi is rightly pitching the Hindu agendas gradually. He is very careful about the mistake what Godse did. So Modi doesn’t want to commit any blunder as Godse committed. Because of Godse's mistake the Hindu movement in India was delayed for decades.

You must understand that Gandhi did nothing to quell any Muslim uprising against Hindus. He was not a strong personality as the masses thought. All he did was sacrificed the Hindus and whenever any atrocities against the Hindus he just fasted. Had he retaliated to ask the Hindus to stop the Muslims from going against the Hindus.

We cannot say for sure whether gandhi would have prevented merger of nizam's territory into indian union. But he would have definitely supported the razakars by adopting all means at his disposal. In some video in you tube Subramaniaswamy was heard saying that gandhi might not have been killed by godse's bullet or something like that.

I urge and request sri SLB to write something valuable and immortal about the Kalyaana Kraanti in its historical as well as religious perspective and roles played by Basavanna, Allama Prabhu and numerous Shaivite Sharanas' Congress from all over Karnataka and Also from various parts of India.
All the prominent and eminent authors of Kannada language, of both medieval and modern times hitherto have contributed their might on this profound historical event.
It's high time that Dr. Bhyrappa write a voluminous and critical description of those people and times fulfill the lacuna.
    Hence my humble submission.

All that can be said is that the guest has a viewpoint and he's welcome to it. The problem arises when one realizes that he does not tell us what else Brutus or Godse ought to have done under the circumstances. To say that neither of them achieved his objectives is the typical scurrilous cynicism and irresponsibility of armchair experts like historians. Had Godse not acted the way he did, not only a mini-Pakistan like Hyderabad - and many more like it - would have been carved out but a corridor from Lahore to Dhaka would have been given on a platter to Pakistan under Gandhi's blackmailing hunger strikes. Let the expert spell out a more fruitful line of action having the same objectives in mind. Otherwise, keep quiet.
In fact, today's generation is asking after knowing about the Mopla genocide why a Godse was not born earlier! We'd have been spared so many humiliating compromises. And secondly, how it is that Gandhi never went on a hunger strike on Jinnah's demand for Pakistan.
And Bhyrappa, you are wrong in detail. Brutus was lured into supporting the conspirators by Cassius to gain respectability in the public eye for their plan of assassinating Julius Caesar. And it was not Brutus who stabbed Caesar from behind but Casca who was given that job. Brutus was the last one to stab seeing which Caesar exclaims," et tu, Brute! Then, fall Caesar".
I think I met you at a seminar in CDN's Dhvanyaloka, Mysuru

A good example of Gandhis hypocrisy was he asked hari singh that he should be ashamed for imposing his rule on his muslim subject and that he should give up everything and try penance at kashi, but he never had anything like that to say for the Nizam of Hyderabad, nawab of junnagad or even goa.

The fact most Hindus (I don't include Gandhi and I intend to explain why herein) miss is that Islamists are not separatists, they are convertors - annihilators - ritual brutalists ; as they proved upfront throughout history. And especially, in the territories of Bharat in the last one hundred years. Gandhi realised early the folly of his delusion, but there was none assertive enough and capable of holding him accountable and providing an alternative leadership. The cowardly charade and the Civilisational suicide continue to this day

Well...true that Gandhi was not the best bargaining chip from (today's) Hindu PoV but no other stalwart had his Stature who survived past WW2. Remember, Tilak, Savarkar (Hindu leaders) were put out of the scene by the Brirish. Bengal babus and baniyas were British boot lickers or commoners were totally Marxist (later). Subhash C Bose was the only great Hindu leader who was hunted down or chased by the Britsh. Gandhi had to tactfully navigate the BIG elephant in the room(guess who) that stayed back in India and spun their separatist dominions. Gandhiji knew this reality bloody well. If HINDUS had their $hit together (united against their enemies) the country wouldn't be in such a bad situation in the first place.
Our own grand/great grand parents were the ones that patronized Gandhis and Nehrus and not anyone else.
So, blaming Gandhi for everything is an escapist attitude of today's generation.

Jihadis destroy idols, idol worshipers, eat beef is inspired by story of so called prophet Elijah massacring entire village of baal-worshipers, their 400 priests. Baal is pronounced as Bail which is ox in Hindi. This comes directly from Yahudi religious book Torah or old testament! There r documents proving that they tried to stop and when they failed they tried to delay the partition, they failed at that also. While, the partition idea started with Khilafat movement in the 1918. Even genocides were committed by them to force the Raj. Many of their officers and families were also sacrificed.
So they decided to stay out of any more riots. Then a depression and WWII sealed their fate along with Indians’.

I won't take his statement closer to the truth just cuz that man's from West and it's equally annoying how Brutus's tale is paralleled with that of Godse.
    S. L. Bhyrappa....you are a novelist and you'll join the pages of history as one of the greatest novelists from Karnataka. I never laughed so hard when the character 'Xavier Sathya Das' from your 'Dharmashree' breaks his sane thinking about the belongingness to the nation after his conversion. Your works always lean on conservatism so does your thoughts.
I'd rather parallel Nathuram's life to Hamlet or Macbeth, the other Shakespearean characters who got manipulated and did something horrible.
You all speak of Gandhi in your own statements cuz he's not alive, however Mr.Bhyrappa in his autobiographical 'Bhitti' has accused U. R. Ananthmurthy of disturbing his peace which follows a root cause from Bhyrappa's refusal to publish a work from Manohara Granthamala to which Mr.Ananthmurthy has always denied it.
Mr. Bhyrappa...If you want your readers to believe whatever you have written in your autobiography is true then why you epitomize Godse over the Truth(Gandhi)?
