I bought (2) WASR 10 GP in 2017, when the Arsenal SLR-107-11 was first made an available for a purchase for me. Almost got the Arsenal, just waited on a VEPR FM-47-21!! For @ 75 bucks more at that time, I got the WASR's. I have absolutely no regrets. Oh, and that included the FFL Fees!
Also in the case of the WASR 10/63's they're built from demilled select fire PM Md. 63 components, save for the receiver & barrel which are still Romanian milspec as mentioned previously, which puts it closer to being an actual "AKM". Certainly better than a PM Md. 63 parts kit built onto a US receiver with US barrel, US rivets, and incorrect spot welds. Out of all the Kalashnikov's I've owned, which is a fair amount, the WASR 10/63 has always been one of my top favorites as I'm mainly interested in milsurp.
I was just deciding on this very pair. I chose a Wasr10. Plus 500rds, 3 bakelite mags, 4 steel mags and a romanian trigger hamer. Plus they are plentyful.

I just got a 107r from ShootingSurplus, on GB, for $1024 shipped. I picked it up from my FFL last Friday. They sold 5 one after another for the same price. I’ll be shooting it for the first time tomorrow. From first inspection, it has a better fit and finish than my 104fr and 107fr. Finish is very even.
I couldn't afford the arsenal ak so I got a wasr-10. Thanks to Rob Ski's review, that's one of the reasons I got one. I will get an arsenal ak one of these days.
I was lucky enough to pick up one of the Bulgarian AK 74's the Century put together in the early 2000's when they were still available and reasonably priced.
Both are reliable and fun to shoot. the WASR is a true work-horse of a rifle and can take a good beating. IMO the WASR is the better value since they are much easier to obtain. for the price difference you can get a case of ammo and a few mags and still be at the same price of the Arsenal. but the Arsenal do shoot very nice and have a certain "feel" to them that the WASR's don't, the Arsenal just feels smoother some how. either way both are great options for a NO-BS AK rifle.
The wasser are a great gun the only thing I really don’t care for is the finish because after you get done cleaning it , any lint from paper towels or anything that has any lint to it it sticks right to the receiver
You said two key words with regard to the WASR 10/63 to me: military grade. Mine has the arrow triangle stamping and is a serial matching gun. Had mine since 2011 and it has been nothing short of outstanding. Sone trainers use these as rentals and your head stories of them having 20-50k rounds through them with zero issues. Mine has had probably 5k through it. If I had to run out the door with a SHTF gun, it would be on my short list. Lots of the Century guns including mine use the Tapco G2 trigger, which is quite good. I’d get another but you have to inspect them to make sure they are straight.

The 107r was a steal of a deal and in direct competition with the WASR at the original price point. The prices now are just stupid. The QC problems posted on FB and AKfiles is a bit scary as well. They had a perfect rifle for the $799-$898 range , the $1,100+ tag now is just insane. Bring back the 107frs please , you get more for the pricing. Excellent video as always , great job
I got a couple of the SLR-107R’s back when they were around $900, in fact I believe I got mine on sale for about $875 apiece, just under $900 anyway. This was long ago of course. Back when around when they first began selling them. Anyway I got the 107R because I could throw them into the press and swap out the original front sight blocks with a 24mm AK74 front sight block. It already had the 90 degree gas block so it made for a very nice AK-103 clone when AK-103 clones were hard to come by. They ended up looking very nice and working just as well. They shoot excellent groups. In the end I put a Rail and red dot on one of them and left the other clean with just iron sights and the original polymer furniture.
@@ianoffutt6299 No they don’t. The holes for the sight that came on the rifle were on top of the barrel and the holes for the 24mm sight are on the bottom so you have to drill new holes. All things considered though drilling the new holes was the easiest part. I had to bore out the 24mm sight just a little so it fits the barrel, I did this with a sanding tool on the dremel. Then you have to line it up for mechanical zero and make sure it isn’t canted which is harder than you’d think it would be. If it was off I had to press it back off and start over again. At first I just tried tapping it with a rubber mallet but it just wasn’t working out. Then once it was where I wanted it I had to clamp it in place and drill the new holes and push the pins in place.
@@EarlCorgi What do you do about the old 14x1 threads? new front sight has it's own threads and old sight is put on and the barrel is threaded thereafter from my understanding, does the new front sight cover those threads?
So I have a original Arsenal SLR-95, all black with a sporter stock and muzzle brake. I bought it original in California before the gun law changed. I don't shoot people or animals, this gun is just for fun, shooting targets. The rounds are so cheap compared to other rifles. It is just a great reliable fun plinking gun for me. My dad fought in Vietnam, shooting this gun brought a tear to his eye, to him it it was the enemy
Just got one about a week ago. My serial is AB 60. Still 2020 date? My first Arsenal and am happy to say that after dumping a drum my finish on the barrel wasn’t bubbling.
Mishaco , I am glad you made this video comparing the Arsenal stamped receiver ( SLR series ) to the Romanian AK's becouse I have questions regarding the metallurgy of the two AK rifles . I own a couple Arsenal SLR series AK's which in my mind are built more like the AK 100 series and I own a couple Romanian , a M10 and a WASR with a 1975 dated front trunion. To be honest I feel like the Romanian AK's are more durable than the Arsenal stamped receiver AK's , I have a family member who works with metal for a living and has done so most there life and when inspecting the Arsenal SLR he said that the bolt carrier appears to be investment cast , albeit good quality casting , the bolt is some type of billit not milled from forged steel and the barrel trunion is NOT forged that it appears to be billit or barstock . And that the rear trunion of the Arsenal is made from cast as well. As compared to my M10 and WASR which he said appears to be all machined from forged steel : the bolt , the bolt carrier and both trunions front & rear are milled from quality forged . He pointed the Arsenal's parts such as the bolt carrier is smoother in appearnce becouse its a casted part where as the Romanian parts have machine and tool marks becouse those parts were machined from harder more durable forged steel. I agree that my Arsenal AK's are prettier to look at but even before he pointed out the differnces in manufacturing process between the two , I have always had more confidence in my Romanian AK's as far as long term durability and the ability to withstand heavy use and abuse . Arsenal AK's are well proven and durable too Im not saying that , its more of a question ... is he right about the Arsenal SLR AK's front trunion , bolt and carrier being made from cast , billit and or barstock ? I went to Kvar.com and in the description of the Milled SAM7 's that the bolt and carrier are forged but do not say anything at all regarding the metallurgy of there SLR series other than the barrel is cold hammer forged . Wondering your input on this . Thanks
Misha, do you know anything about Arsenal contracting out their stamped gun production to Bulgaria ISD? If so have you been hearing about the production quality of late compared to earlier serial numbers?
@@clayc1287 A bulgarian here but not that big ofa gun enthusiast . Arsenal and ISD are different manufactureres. No idea who imports what in the USA, but there is more than one manufacturer in Bulgaria making ak parts.

I have never shot a wasr but i do have an Arsenal sam7sf. Its been my favorite for several years now. So i would have to go to the Arsenal. By the way Misha im kind of digging on the 1960's beatnick look.
As of over 1 year later than my last post people want arsenals more. The people have spiked. Arsenals at least 1400 up, wasr10 still like 800-1000 You tell me why?
Just bought the Arsenal SLR107R. Can't wait till it gets to my FFL. I do want to get wood furniture. Anyone have a link to some good furniture? Thanks for the input.

I can tell you this..., they shoot the same. But I chose the Arsenal 107, given at the time it was only $150 more than the Wasr. I should’ve kept my Wasr considering the times.
Excellent video. I have one of the WASR-10s underfolders. Interestingly, the P-mags do not fit the gun at all, they won't even go into the mag well. All the steel mags I have tried are fine. I guess I got lucky and got one of the ones they didn't hog out too much.
@@misha5670 This one came from a local shop as a used gun, doesn't look fired much if at all by previous owner. It didn't have a mag with it so they went in the back and rummaged around and found a steel RPK mag and gave me that- fit fine. Got a few Romanian surplus mags, all ok. Tried the Hungarian ones I have for my AMD, ok also. Tried the Magpul ones I got for my Galil ACE- BRRRP! No go.
My wasr10 had the same problem with magazine fit when I first got it. But a little bit of careful fitment with a flat hand file took care of that easily. Now it holds everything tightly.
@@orion000 man I own both. I'm speaking from the rifles I received. My wasr was of better QC. Bolt was smoother, trigger is better (the Tapco) and finish is better on the wasr. The slr is literal black paint.
I've always question the whole milled gun thing is a pound heavier thing. Multiple times when I see people weigh out their Milled vs stamped guns (I've seen it on arfcom and Reddit), the guns end up being weighed simarly. One Reddit post weighed out a Wasr and a Sam7r and the measurements ended up being 7.2 pounds for Wasr and 7.6ish pounds for the sam7. Can you confirm or deny this with your own measurements? (I think they were unloaded for both)
Considering I've shipped many stamped and milled AKs, evenSLR107R vs SAM7R, yes i can confirm that the milled is heavier. Also keep in mind its not just the receiver that's heavier if you are comparing a traditional AK Type III and AKM. The barrel, furniture and even some small parts are all heavier as well.
Both of these ak’s are work horse rather than worrying about the cosmetics and finished. If you have the extra 300 bucks to spend then go for the arsenal, but i would still get the wasr and spend the 300 bucks extra for mags and ammo and you’re all set.
Just got a 2020 production WASR, would a SLR7 be a good investment for 1200 or will more be imported in the future? I don't wanna miss out like with the SAMs and milled AKs!
I can tell from history, no AK model has lasted forever as far as being imported. I'd just buy one and have it so when they stop getting imported, which will surely happen at some point, you'll have a collection piece.
one thing i always wondered about aks is how to find and tell different makes and models from each other. What I mean by that more specifically is for example with an AR if theres a specific model I want but my local FFL doesnt have one I can just go to the manufacturers website and have them ship it to the FFL and since most AR15 style rifles are made in the US or at least by a US based company this is pretty easy but when it comes to AK's many of them are imports and as such there websites are in foreign languages assuming they even have a website. I guess my question is if there was a specific model/make of AK style rifles yet my FFL doesnt have it where would I go and how would I go about getting one shipped to my FFL? P.S: Love the vids keep up the great work!
My WASR is a -13 with the Tapco G2 trigger. Aside from the 'service-grade' roughness, it is extremely well-made. BTW, do you have a line on another crutch stock? The CNC/Bonesteel folder is great, but I'd like to get it more correct.
Again buy a wasr. What a joke. Arsenal needs to just go away. You should be able to get that part free from them but ill bet you anything that they will make you ship the rifle back and waste your time.
on the facebook "ak47 group" theres a guy showing his 2020 wbp fox, where his trunnion was able to be gauged out with a screw driver. thoughts on this? and kvar's qc has gone to shit, i've seen ras47's with better qc than the 107r's.
@mishaco you brush on the topic a bit - do you think now is the time to buy any foreign/imported firearm? Prices are high but who knows how much this crisis will disrupt future imports.
I'd say go with the WASR. I'm sure I will get a lot of laughs but I purchased a Sam7. Damn thing cost me $2k after everything. Bought it from Atlantic Firearms and the thing shows up with horribly canted front sight. I can deal with a little cant but on a $2000 AK it better be minimal. Nope, sight is far right as possible and the post is as far left as possible. I reached out to Atlantic and they told me that because I live in California my warranty was voided the instant I took possession of the gun. Of course, this information is not listed in the WARRANTY section but a separate link titled Ca Compliant. Imagine spending $2k on a rifle and find out the warranty is voided because the AUTHORIZED dealer (a big one at that) sold these as Ca compliant. The rational for this is the firearms are "altered", so a Ca Compliant fin grip and a 10rd mag voids the warranty of your $2000 Arsenal pos. Seriously, Hi-Point stands behind it's firearms better than Arsenal.
My only issue I have with the Arsenal is for the price one should expect Arsenal qc to be better than what it is. The Wasr in recent years seems to have been better in that department
I’m at a crossroads. I want to get my first AK. Should I wait for KUSA 103? Go with a WBP Fox when they come in stock? Or track down a converted Saiga? I don’t know what to do!

I have both the 107 pulls smaller groups but both are great
I got a couple of the SLR-107R’s back when they were around $900, in fact I believe I got mine on sale for about $875 apiece, just under $900 anyway.
Do the holes line up for the 24mm front sight?
@@EarlCorgi Do I need to cut and crown old threads off?
@@ianoffutt6299 You don’t need to do anything with the old threads. They fit right under the new 24mm sight’s threads.
I bought the same Arsenal! Love that gun! Keeping it totally stock!
Just bought a Zastava! They are the best.
Great info thank you ! Would love to see a vid on the cleaning kits you prefer and that are less agressive on the gun !
I gave 850 for my slr-107r 2 years Ago
I have both ! Can’t beat an arsenal there built like a tank all milled receiver ! Wasr 10 I had one for many years !
I have a wasr 10/63 from the year 1963. Is that considered a good gun?
Yes
Got a wassr 1063 no complaint. Cosmetic slightly canted gas block 1130 in stead of 12 . But runs just fine . Rings steel all day
Even the wasr is approaching 1100, crazy but I would get a import sooner rather then never!
They’re selling now September 2020 for $1399.99 in my area San Antonio Texas.
107 all day
ALL DAY
WASR-10 is better, it may not have the greatest fit and finish, but its reliable and accurate.
BoogalooBoy1776 lol 😂 no
I love these videos, keep it up Misha, you are doing good things for the AK fans!
Just got one about a week ago. My serial is AB 60. Still 2020 date? My first Arsenal and am happy to say that after dumping a drum my finish on the barrel wasn’t bubbling.
Yes. The 60 means 2020 production.
The wasr price has went up again..... if you can find 1. The price in my area is curreny $950 for a new wasr-10
Have both love both. Whichever one you buy, you did good.
Clay C They are made in the USA using Bulgarian parts (at least the parts that matter).
@@AKking530 Where are the Bulgarian parts being made now is what I am getting at.
@@clayc1287 A bulgarian here but not that big ofa gun enthusiast . Arsenal and ISD are different manufactureres. No idea who imports what in the USA, but there is more than one manufacturer in Bulgaria making ak parts.
My favorite gun channel on TH-cam, keep up the great work
Pretty much any solvent will strip the paint off the Arsenals. If you care, then use CLP on the exterior.
Or just don't clean it...its an AK afterall right? (joking people, its a joke)
I only use CLP, the Bolt and Carrier finish wears off fast for some reason. otherwise the outer finish has done well so far.
I got the aes 10b and added a binary trigger. A great combination
Thank you for my Lynx Misha! I am looking for a sam7, i attempted to purchase the arsenal 107 from kvar, but they were sold out, same day.
Thanks for the vids
they're in stock as of today.
I have never shot a wasr but i do have an Arsenal sam7sf. Its been my favorite for several years now.
So i would have to go to the Arsenal. By the way Misha im kind of digging on the 1960's beatnick look.
Its a bit of a running joke with my wife...or rather "malicious compliance' I suppose.
Wasr just needs a little love and a milled recoil spring assembly ❤
As of over 1 year later than my last post people want arsenals more.
The people have spiked.
Arsenals at least 1400 up, wasr10 still like 800-1000
You tell me why?
Just bought the Arsenal SLR107R. Can't wait till it gets to my FFL. I do want to get wood furniture. Anyone have a link to some good furniture? Thanks for the input.
I have a lead star barrage 7.62x39 ak pistol, my first ak ever & ever shot. The alg 2 lb trigger is butter smooth, my favorite gun right now. Of course i snagged a ak-v I'm waiting for psa to tell me to pick up🤣🤣🤣 definitely caught the AK bug
What is the trunnion date on that UF?
@@misha5670 I will check.
2018
I actually like the WASR better from personal experience.
Disclaimer: I own both.
Ew
@@orion000 man I own both. I'm speaking from the rifles I received. My wasr was of better QC. Bolt was smoother, trigger is better (the Tapco) and finish is better on the wasr. The slr is literal black paint.
Your videos are awesome! I love the detail you give in all your videos
@Misha Any chance on a review/ info on the Romanian M10? Keep up the great work I have learned more from your channel than all other sources combined.
Any thoughts on the ZPAP M70 coming soon? Will have 1.5mm receiver, chrome lined barrel and bulged reinforced trunnion.
Yes actually, stay-tuned
Misha any word on if they will have grenade launching sights with the gas port cut off
@GastonGross Agree, but the 1.5 mm look cooler. And as you know, looking cool is everything lol.
The answer is psa ak-103 same gun considerably less. With a chf barrel from fn and a heavy duty akm bolt
Both of these ak’s are work horse rather than worrying about the cosmetics and finished. If you have the extra 300 bucks to spend then go for the arsenal, but i would still get the wasr and spend the 300 bucks extra for mags and ammo and you’re all set.
I have both from a few yrs ago. The slr was 1st and only $50 more. I felt slightly cheated when I bought the wasr later. I like the 107 better
@@POPJack1717 thank you bro. I sold the SLR107 for a Sam7SF . Now I want another SLR
Already have a WASR, going with WBP Fox next.
I'd take the WASR for a traditional AKM, but I'd only go for an Arsenal for the folding stock version and AK100 front sight.
Good luck. Those go for as much as 2.5k now, average of 2-2.3k.
Hello thanks for the info. Great content.
Can I powder coat my wasr 10?
Thanks
10 for the win 👍
The MIGHTY WASR!
Schrodinger's GAT hell yeah!!
One is none !
Misha, as always thank you!
one thing i always wondered about aks is how to find and tell different makes and models from each other.
I already have a wasr. Thought about getting a Arsenal 👎🏾. Looks like my next AK will be a zastava 556.
My WASR is a -13 with the Tapco G2 trigger. Aside from the 'service-grade' roughness, it is extremely well-made. BTW, do you have a line on another crutch stock? The CNC/Bonesteel folder is great, but I'd like to get it more correct.
Just bought the 107R and during the furniture change the gas tube roller pin lock fell out. Misha, were can you find parts like this for AK's?
Again buy a wasr. What a joke. Arsenal needs to just go away. You should be able to get that part free from them but ill bet you anything that they will make you ship the rifle back and waste your time.
on the facebook "ak47 group" theres a guy showing his 2020 wbp fox, where his trunnion was able to be gauged out with a screw driver. thoughts on this? and kvar's qc has gone to shit, i've seen ras47's with better qc than the 107r's.
What about SLR107R vs WBP Fox
@mishaco you brush on the topic a bit - do you think now is the time to buy any foreign/imported firearm? Prices are high but who knows how much this crisis will disrupt future imports.
You grew a beard Misha! Nice.
They have. I own both, bought literally at the same time. My wasr is of better quality all the way around.
I’m at a crossroads. I want to get my first AK. Should I wait for KUSA 103? Go with a WBP Fox when they come in stock? Or track down a converted Saiga? I don’t know what to do!
