I love how she gets distracted by the car for a second and forgets she was mad, then looks at you and remembers to be all mad and puffy again hahaha
And THAT shows the intelligence of chickens for everyone who thinks they're not smart. They have the reasoning capacity of a 2-year old, they can recognize up to 100 faces, and they talk to their chicks whole still in their eggs with about 40 different vocalizations. They have emotions, show sympathy and empathy. Awesome creatures!

She's PISSED. We had a hen that went Broody last year and I had to force her out to eat and drink. She pecked the hell outta me every time.
I had to keep putting her out so that she would eat sometimes I'll get pretty skinny if they are not forced to feed

It’s been a few days, and so removed her and her precious eggs from the coop and set up a nice big tub in a quiet room in my house to serve as a nesting box for her.
I’m not afraid to get bit, and Ive got some large syringes, the kind that I’ve used in the past to feed orphaned baby critters for a wildlife rescue group I belong to.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated regarding both technique and what to feed her!
@@skuppy I think the best thing you can do is give her some food and water close to her nest so she doesn't have to leave her baby's ,also treats like fruit, berries and bugs . Some pet stores sell meal worms and crickets,(however crickets can be problematic) meal worms are best

I raised chickens for years as a kid. Was even the county champion of layers at our local fair for 7 years in a row. I can tell you, those girls can hold a grudge
but they forget fast

Almost all my hens get like this during the spring and it’s a hassle trying to collect eggs and make sure they’re all staying hydrated and eating enough😭😂 all while they make angry noises, glare at me, and attack me.
My Orp has never gone broody but my Barred Rock is always broody. She hatched a chick in July and ever since she has kept wanting to be a mom again.

It’s good that you get to her early on, because the longer you wait and let her be broody, the more hormones she will have build up inside her and then she will become more difficult to get out of that broody stage. And quite possibly become aggressive.

Your big buff is pretty good natured for a broody. I've had my chickens attack my hands, hiss and growl at me. My copper maran was the worst, the minute it warmed up in spring, she'd go broody. She'd often have to spend a few days in chicken jail to snap out of it.
She a very sweet girl hand raised..that may be why she is not that aggressive

Mine used to do that. I have the same species of hen. I had to make her sleep in an old coop for 3-5 days until she forgot about being broody. I also had to not let them in the newer coop. But none of my hens are broody anymore. Thank gosh. 😂😂
Imagine raising Raptors in place of chickens. I wouldn’t be surprised if one is strongly advised to wear chain mail or some kind of body armor if getting up close and personal with just 1, let alone 4 of them.

60 years ago in my parent’s village everyone had chickens but not everyone had roosters. So when they wanted to hatch they would just borrow their neighbour’s rooster for the job.
we had a buff who was determined to brood. she would brood even with no eggs. Our only solution was to let her hatch them. She hatched them, & never brooded again. We still have her, she is ancient. She too would get very mad at us when we would kick her out of the nest so she could eat & drink water. Crazy to think they will brood themselves to death.
