Very cool test...how about a reverse taper grip test? I have always thought golf grips were made backwards, and now Golf Pride has come out with a reverse taper putter grip. Just a thought, keep up the good work!
My family and I owned a driving range/teaching/repair business for over 40 years. Years ago, all of the grips were super taper (ie, golf pride green victory). Ping was the 1st to come up with reduced taper which they used in the ping eye 2 Era with their color coded for size ping man grips. In the wonderful book, "Feel a Real Golf Swing", Bob Toski talks about the change and recommended hunting down the old super taper style grips.
What about the old reversed taper grips? They came out in the early 2000s maybe even earlier I’d like to see a test of those. You’re starting to see him now in putters.
I think this all comes down to a feel thing. I use a 10 finger grip and the non tapered to slightly reduced tapered grips feel the most comfortable to me.
I play the jumbo max medium size grip ( ultra lite non-taper grips) great for hitting straight and no hand pain after the round. 😊 works best for me after trying a lot of different grips for my arthritis in my fingers.
Great content : ) Would the grip not related to swing style? I would be neutral at 8i then 7i-5i stronger grip, 5 hybid, 7W and driver full strong grip. Wedges 100% grip lower ( gloved hand) then a claw style grip. I run WINN DRi-Tec Mid size (52gram) with the tamper completely removed from the lower. 3 layers off the lower 1st 1/3rd, 2nd is 1/2 length last is 2/3rd then 3-5 layers to build out the grip, at the same time avoiding exceeding D2 swing weight. Each layer of masking tape is near to 1 gram as my scales can show. Plus I only like going dead straight anyway : )
I’ve messed with different grip styles. I have a steep negative angle of attack and feel like reduced taper like the plus 4 wraps I hated. Even between midsize and standard grips if it gets too Thick feels harder to turn club over. Maybe just preference
Not super or anything but I build up the top of the grip on reduced taper grips, in between standard and mid sized as neither feels quite right in my hands. Wedges in particular. I use GolfWorks full sized build up tape which is very noticeable both in feel and visually. Long bomber Kyle Berkshire builds up the upper portion of the grip, only a few inches down according to him.
Hi AJ, could you do a video on how to lengthen a putter from a 33" to a 34". I just bought a superstroke grip, but I would like to install it while lengthening the club?
Have you heard about Enlow grips? They are reverse taper like a baseball bat. I used them about 15 years ago. I'm using regular grips. Did you use build up tape for the whole length of the grip?
I am going to do a video on those as I remember them from way back and you can still buy them. I used 1 full layer of tape to get the size up to standard.
Have you ever tried the Golf Pride CPx Midsize Grip? I was wondering about the softness of the grip. I have RA in my hands and always looking for help. Thanks
Is there any risk of using half or 3/4the the full length of double sided grip tape on the shaft (acting like a super mini taper)? I want the bottom of the grip to feel slightly smaller.
The extra tape will make the built up section feel slightly firmer. SW won't see much of a change with that amount of tape. Probably only about 2g at most so minimal influence on balance.
Stupid question alert…Does putting that much tape at different places change the swing weight of the club? Just wondered if that little change could make a difference.
Hi, I have been watching your regrip guides and trying to regrip my clubs, I am having a slight problem.. Many people seemed to recommend white spirits to regrip so I went with that.. but as soon as i get any of it on the outer side of the new grip, the paint of the grip starts running and it seems to deteriorate the rubber.. Is white spirits a no go or do you just have to be careful not to get it on the outside of the grip?
I have 8 wraps on my drive with mid size grips. I am 5'9" small hands. REMEMBER GOLF IS A GAME OF PRECISION !!!!! not power SO WHAT EVER ((((((. FEELS. )))))) GOOD...... Great video thanks for sharing. I have a question for you, I just picked up my clubs I had new shafts put in my new wedges and the last place that put my 5 iron and other clubs together didn't do a great job and the head was loose mind you all of these clubs are new I just got the four clubs back today and the back of the club head on my T200 5 iron is all marked up like they grabbed it with pliers or put it in a vice whats your policy on this. I cant call them till tomorrow and I can hear them saying "it doesnt effect the clubs performance" but I care about it alot and think it should be replaced. Am I over reacting? The SM10s are also scratched up on the face I let that go but the back of my 5 iron is a really big deal to me. Sorry to take your time with this btw but just happened and it urks the S%^& out of me.
I do all that work myself. It sounds like someone doesn't care about their work or are in a hurry. There is no reason for that to happen. Maybe someone doesn't know any better?
AJ,, one more and I will leave you alone,,,,,,,,,,what's the best way to remove head/hosel weights besides just drilling and drilling and drilling them out......thx!!!!
AJ,,,,think WAYYYYY back,,, may have never even extended one of these old shafts,,,but have you ever extended an aluminum shaft from the 60's-70's? I have done a bunch of extensions,,,,but never one of the old Thick wall aluminums from that period,,,,,,,,,,,,they must have done it back then,,,but how?? Ok,,,,I will answer the obvious question before it is asked,,,,,,WHY IN THE HELL DO YOU EVEN WANT TO??? @@EFGMC AJ,,,,THANKS SO MUCH for the quick reply!!!! A shaved graphite or maybe even a shaved aluminum plug/extension........BTW AJ. of course you don't remember the '70's,,,,,,you are just a pup!!! lol

You can buy these. Peter Von Panda reviews them on TH-cam.

Loved this test!! I have such a hard time turning my driver over but haven’t wanted to go down to an undersized grip.
Neat test. Never thought of a super taper. I naturally draw the ball and play a less taper now. Thx 👍

You have such a smooth and effortless swing.
The exact swing I’m trying to achieve.
Great video Adam! Really enjoy your tests like this!!
Gives you some thing think about thanks AJ

Feels like, but may not actually be like, Pure Wrap grips, esp my midsize, which feel like they taper a ton (and also work really well for me)

Great content bro your channel rules. Amateur Carl Spackler club repair / grips replacement guy here. Hopefully be head greenskeeper within 10 years….
Nice work!
You should compare the super taper to the jumbo max grips, the movement to larger grips seems to produce better results with some players
Hi AJ, could you do a video on how to lengthen a putter from a 33" to a 34". I just bought a superstroke grip, but I would like to install it while lengthening the club?
What do you think about the new putter grip?
I switched to medium gripes, and it sounds the same as your discription of the supper grip. Try a medium grip and see what you think.
To try the aggressive taper, use a Bionic glove which is very padded and wil have the same effect as building up the grip???
Have you heard about Enlow grips? They are reverse taper like a baseball bat. I used them about 15 years ago. I'm using regular grips. Did you use build up tape for the whole length of the grip?

Less/no taper definitely tends to fade but is more consistent for me.
Could you retrofit a set of single length irons? Shaft changes and loft changes to help gapping? Or would that be a lot of work for a weekend warrior?
Just get new clubs
Really interesting
Have you ever tried the Golf Pride CPx Midsize Grip? I was wondering about the softness of the grip. I have RA in my hands and always looking for help. Thanks
They are quite soft. Close to a Winn grip softness.
i still can't believe how far you drive the ball with that Big Easy swing....
simulator settings............. no way thats a 300 yard swing
@@ultimatejay no, but i think the readings were 275+ which is still very very impressive.
Can you test this theory with irons please?

No issue
Hi, you did a video on hard grips making a shaft stiffer. Will the super taper do that? Change in swing weight with all that tape?
The extra tape will make the built up section feel slightly firmer. SW won't see much of a change with that amount of tape. Probably only about 2g at most so minimal influence on balance.

I've used mineral spirits without issue although I usually use dedicated grip solvent. What kind of grips are you using?

I just switched to MCC midsize +4 and will never go back. Reduced hooks and no hand pain
I was fit to standard + 1/32” is that 2 wraps?
3 or 4 depending on the grip.

Try a SuperStroke putter grip on your driver 😁
All the big Grip Manufacturers are probably watching this video and scrambling to get a super taper grip out to market asap 😅
Golf Pride's next great innovation!
AJ,, one more and I will leave you alone,,,,,,,,,,what's the best way to remove head/hosel weights besides just drilling and drilling and drilling them out......thx!!!!
That's it. Otherwise you need to really heat the head up which won't be good for most of the multi material heads on the market.
Doesn't this contradict your video about adding tape doesn't increase grip size?
It did change the taper here but it was subtle.
so it doesnt make a difference what you use, its all the same. You hit some left and you hit some right with all 3.

I can't remember doing much with aluminum shafts. I guess you need to use a shaved down graphite extension to get the right fit.
