  • The LEGO Technic 42144 Material Handler is the second Technic release for the 2nd half year of 2022. It has some cool pneumatic functions and recolored cylinders, but does it all worth $150, especially if we compare it to the 42053 Volvo EW160E from 2016? Let's find it out!

    I just finished building the Heavy-Duty tow truck set. That thing provides much better value compared to this. For the same price, both have pneumatics, but the tow truck has 1,200 (!!!) more pieces. I don't see how Lego thought $150 usd was a good price for this.

    The Material Handler has a decent amount of good stuff going for it, a lot of functions, pretty big and it's about as pure as a Technic set can be. It's just a shame it's ruined by being so massively overpriced (almost insultingly so), what ever country it's sold in; currently retailing at the same price as the Heavy Duty Tow Truck in the US is absolutely crazy. Which is made worse when the Tow Truck and other older but more substantial sets have been getting discounts here and there as they've been out a while now. Right now for example, it's the Tow Truck is touch less costly than the Material Handler's retail price in the UK; heck I even saw the Land Rover Defender set for HALF price recently at £87.50.
    This set has no business retailing for three figures, inflation or not, when it's so heavily cut down from the Volvo set from 2016 and priced so closely to other much larger Technic sets from past and present. I would've guessed this set's price to have been £75/$80/80 Euros to be honest.

    • @bside8568

      @bside8568 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i had guessed $99 -$ 119 since there always was about 10-15% extra for pneumatic +0.12c a piece.
      but $149 is just insulting to any loyal Lego fan. combine that with the fact that over the last two years the Lego rewards points value dropped by 30% and it's becoming an issue

    the only way you can say it was a good idea to buy this lego set was if you got it on special offer, but once constructed like other technic lego sets who actually plays with this set for a long time before moving onto the next technic set, as long as were buying these complicated sets to have something difficult to build, and off course an amazing lego model to look at then that`s ok, there certainly is things in the shops that we should have bought rather than perhaps buying yet another technic set to add to our already large collection, but then we buy these lego sets for the fun of building them and how great they look on our shelves. and there is nothing wrong in that,

    1:43 unfortunately, I don't think this is a Pythagorean Triangle, the pieces have lengths of 4, 5, and 6 which are not Pythagorean Triples , meaning that this is either not a right triangle, or it is stressing the pieces to force a right triangle.

    The material handler has an advantage over the ew160e in that the pneumatic tubing on the boom is neatly arranged while on the latter the tubing is messed up as seen in Sariel's review.I also think that the material handler is too overpriced as it costs 120 EUR \150 USD for just 835 pieces.This is the same price as the 42128 tow truck which aso has pneumatics but more advanced mechanisms and 50% more pieces.The absence of a b model for this set which is non licensed and has high price and almost same functions as ew160e is non understandable

    I think they're just trying to sell the pneumatic functions on this one, hoping that people will buy it because we haven't seen pneumatics in a while. It has nice functions, but I believe the more serious Lego enthusiasts will either buy this set for the cylinders or not buy it at all.

      @@catzzzz1450 was a good moment for lego to start over again with the airtank. The sets I have with airtank all work fine still. Would be a great sellling point

    I have to say that the overall quality of the instruction sets is getting worse. The part list for each step is centered too much to the left that eventually, the manual fold hides them. This is also true of some micro steps that sometimes are so close to the fold that you may need to ruin your manual. Never mind the mistakes in the large 1:8 sets. Common LEGO, you can do better.

    More often than not your lack of knowledge of the real world machines leads you to make dumb comments in your videos. This videos one was the "flappy red panel" pretty much every real excavator has a tool box right there and they open upwards

      Well I'm sure you are the kind of person who knows everything about all the machines of the world, us mere mortals are not that lucky. Usually I have kind commenters who correct me in a constructive and informative way, but occasionally I have people like you who feel the need to add condescending remarks on top of that.
