Been across BOTH on a STREET motorcycle (everyone said I wouldn't make it!) in 1975, a Suzuki GS650G (YES, a shafty!) and I "rescued" three Jeeps and a FWD Toyota Pick-up (highly modified) when I got to Ouray. I made about 12 MPH and made five water crossings with common sense (avoid deep spots and go SLOW). Talked to an Ouray native and we agreed you could make the trip in a 3/4 or one ton 2WD truck IF you were CAREFUL and went SLOW and didn't knock a hole in an oil pan/tranny case/rear axle(front axle) like all my "rescues" had by being stupid! Rock is harder than sheet metal or cast aluminum. There must be 50,000 gallons of oil up on the trail to prove it! But I've seen people break tanks!
I much prefer Black Bear over to Telluride. Ophir back to 550 and Red Mountain Mining Trail back to Ouray. Way less traffic on Black Bear and no tour busses.

Great video! What antenna holder are you using with that tire carrier? Was going to order up the one through Teraflex but like the antenna behind the tire vs off to the side.
This is my CB radio antena all I did is drill a hole in my tire carrier behind the tire in order to run it that way! I’ll make a future video about that .
