Army Navy won’t be moved unless they can make up for the massive financial hit. It was moved 40ish or so years ago from the Saturday after Thanksgiving so that they could be the “only game in town.” When I was playing for Navy in the 80s, we played the first Saturday in December. Then in the 21st century the conference championship games started to be held on the same weekend as Army Navy, so we moved it to the 2nd Saturday in December so that we could get our revenue back up again. It’s been about 10 years since I last saw this stat, but basically over 90% of the Naval Academy’s athletic mission (buildings, fields, coaches, staff, travel, equipment, etc. for ALL Varsity, Club, and Intramural sports) comes from Navy Football, not the taxpayer. Basketball is also not a moneymaker at Navy. So, to keep up with our massive number of sports (something that attracts great students to Navy), the football team has to deliver. I’m sure the same is true for Army. I’m starting to socialize the idea that perhaps we can move Army Navy back to the Saturday after Thanksgiving - and make the game “matter” again (in the world of the CFP) - if we were able to take advantage of NIL in someway. To do that, though, we would need to share NIL across all FBS schools (like Nick Saban proposed last year). Since service academy students cannot be paid NIL, the 2 schools would potentially be able to use their “share” to offset the cost of shifting the game back 2 weeks.
Bottom line though - if Army Navy don’t make up the money for shifting the game to earlier in the season, they can’t make the move.

I try to watch at least some of every bowl game every year, but there are too many and the playoffs have really undermined them. I'd favor a true 16 team playoff with ALL the conference champs, with at-large bids and all seedings decided by a combination of record and opponents' winning percentage. This would allow for independents and make a vast majority of games all year more meaningful. Get rid of conference championship games. No committee needed.

We will have a 16 team playoff, and that means 15 games.
Seems fine to me, and we only need 80 teams in D1A while we are at it.
Case closed- a lot of programs need to go to D1aa, and that’s that.
