Dravid leaving isn't a shock. He didn't really want the job in the first place because of his young family and was pushed into it by Ganguly and others earlier. The job is tough because of politics and ego issues. They might still try their best to keep Dravid or bring in GG with special conditions. Everyone works differently, but the BCCI doesn't give much freedom. GG did well with SRK because he had freedom, but he might not get that with BCCI. The BCCI focuses more on star players for money rather than winning ICC trophies. Gautam, like Virat, could be praised if he wins, but criticized for being too aggressive if he doesn't.

idk why India is so against multiple coaches for different formats. Coaching India for all formats is really tough, given the volume of cricket played. I feel there can be a clear division between red ball cricket and white ball cricket in terms of coachin.

I agree. BCCI need to look at a split coaching role. One each for white and red ball

Because it will lead to ego clashes.. each coach will have their favourites and will support them instead of supporting the team as a whole.. This mentality is a typical Indian mentality which is prevalent in every walk of life.. Indians support individuals not the team

@@nikunjdixit1175 I agree it is better to have split coaches.. but Indian cricket doesn't function that way..Like I said this is typical Indian mentality and I don't see it changing.. it may only change when the current crop of ex-players become too old to do these jobs because these ex- players played in an era where there was senior-junior culture, players belonging to Mumbai, Karnataka thought they were better than players from other part of country.. such people are now the coaches, decision makers in Indian cricket and unless they go I don't see a change happening..

They all take ipl mentor jobs make money with no answerability and yet you all criticise someone who did the job to the best of his ability. If the competency of the coach is measured by icc trophies we are extremely limited in numbers. Dhoni must be the Indian coach forever

BCCI is a money minting machine… they would do anything to keep that money 💰 coming. It’s really unfair on the players to be playing 465 days of cricket in a year. As fans we should also draw the line on how much of cricket we want to consume in an year. Nobody wants to experience cricket fatigue. In a way BCCI is killing the excitement of appreciating the game for what it is. If this is how they want to play… pretty soon they will start seeing empty stadiums around the world.

@@sylvy16don't be under this impression brother. The no 1 team is Australia in ODI and test despite whatever the rankings might say. Also if India can't win a trophy with only 4 major global teams competing for it (IND AUS ENG NZ) then what's the use of that "no 1" spot? Millions of runs by Virat are useless if he goes trophyless. In sports you play for the cup not for "rankings".

What nonsense are they talking about? During the IPL season, he got two months of leisure time while being paid a humongous salary. He lives in luxury hotels, flies on ultra-premium airlines, and receives VVIP treatment wherever he goes. Every job has its own difficulties, stress, anxieties, and pressure. The more pressure you take, the more income you get. Simple.

Right after ipl there was worldcup. So you study each team announced , you sit with selectors to find the right 15 to take so that you can counter attack the other teams. You study pitches, you study each player's and then plan how to go about with team composition. VVIP flights don't ease one's stress. Pretty sure still haven't reached college

Dravid as a coach has been a disaster for Indian cricket, just as Rohit and Kohli as captains. Under their leadsrship IND has NOT won even a single ICC world cup in any format since past several years !
GG is leagues above Dravid in drive, skills, foresight, tactics, strategy, clarity, energy levels decisiveness and dynamism.
This event also signals end of Kohli & Rohit era in T20 format...and for good of Indian T20 cricket !

@saurabhchoudhary2332 Why should I - Kohli, Rohit & Dravid - were forced to announce their retirement. They were no longer deemed fit to play T20 cricket. And I am happy GG is assuming the role of head coach and the T20 team playing 2026 T20 WC in India will be a team of talented youngsters without Kohli & Rohit under GG's coaching and a new captain. This is exactly what I was hoping for, and it happened ! I am, in fact, rejoicing & partying ! ;-)

@saurabhchoudhary2332 They have already signed contract with Gambhir before T20 WC. It's not feasible now for Dravid to renew. Also, it was one of Gambhir's condition that Kohli, Rohit & Jadeja will be excluded from T20I format and will focus on ODI & Test formats only and BCCI has respected that. Kohli & Rohit had stalled opportunities for many talented youngsters during their reign. 13 years without any ICC world cup was a looong time during their leadership.
