All good advice from what I can tell. I went and met my daughter’s high school counselor yesterday. She’s a rising sophomore and will be taking pre-calc next year. I asked about taking the PSAT in the fall and was told they have never had a soph sit for it. Well, it makes a lot of sense if you’ve had the math and plan to take the sat spring of 10th grade. But absolutely NOT on their radar

We have a plan for my son to get to Multivariable Calculus by the end of Year 12, so completing Math BC AP by the end of Year 11. He is also currently working through Linear Algebra in his spare time, however even though his school offers it in year 12 it seems he won't have space in his timetable to enrol in it. We found all this extra Math and completing Statistics AP in his spare time is helping with his SAT and ACT trial scores.

Hey Craig, love the video. Currently an applying senior. Personally, I ended up doing Precalculus in 9th grade and did AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics in 10th (Calculus III / Discrete Math in 11th and Linear Algebra/Differential Equations in 12th) (Allowed me to get 800 in SAT Math) -> Highest Math class in school is Calc III, the rest was done in Dual Enrollment.
How about competition math? I have done AMC/AIME, HMMT, BMT, etc and have top ranks. Does this fall into the same bucket?

You are doing great. My daughter did AP Calc BC and got 5 in grade 9. Now she is in grade 10 and the highest math available for her in school is Pre-Calc 11.

Years ago I had a student who went over to Bard after school and took all of their math classes. Her mom was worried she wouldn’t get into some of the top schools. I told her there wasn’t a door she couldn’t walk through anywhere on any campus, she would get in everywhere. She got into all 8 ivies and went to Stanford.

Yes, it will actually help for majors beyond math as well. Good luck.

Was Multivariable Calc, LA and DE offered as part of your school or did you take them at the local Community College or University? Curious. Thanks!!!!
