Pretty sure nobody uses plastic gears for steampunk. Looks like time to get some decent new sidecutters too.

I found the easiest way to get the copper out, is to cut the spool and plastic on one side using your diagonal cutter, then if you twist it open you can peel out the copper easily.

Geez you sound like Glenn Robbins.
The copper windings have to be insulated to create a magnetic field. Also if its exposed to air it would tarnish in not time. So yes epoxy coated. just not visible. When I go to the yard I take bare bright for this too. Sometimes for this thin stuff they have a bare bright hair wire category, 20c less

Thanks for the epoxy info, that makes sense. Also I’ve never heard the Glenn Robbins reference before so now I’ll have to listen to my own voice (which I hate lol) to see how close it sounds.

You could also bend the wing on the side,then use a screw driver to pry off instead of opening the small tabs.

Well i take them put the spool with the plastic in a metal can the burn in a wood fire then I get #2 copper price plus get yellow brass off the prongs or sell them as uncleaned electric motors

4.5 To 5 Lbs for 100 Motors, I use a cable cutter & cut across no fiddling around & My yard pays #2 because of the fine wire
