The US Airforce are still using Boeing B52 bombers that were built in the early 1950's , they just kept upgrading them , and keep them perfectly airworthy. So what's the problem with doing the same with a twenty year old plane ???
The B757 are designed for commercial aviation not for military aviation. Yes, the B757 can have extended life work on them but that is expensive. Despite all the waffle from the PM, Defence spending is 1.18% of GDP where the absolute minimum for the country's defence spending should be at least 2.5-3% of GDP due to to the country island status, isolation and large economic zone.
757's are 32 years old. They had 10 years flying for Netherlands before they were bought by NZ. One of the biggest problems is obtaining spare parts, and I doubt a 3D printer would handle the job.
Hahaha. NZ press gallery. Today most “press” A. Attend only a 6 week basic reporting course at a Tech. B. Shop for their clothes at a Hospice shop. C. Have about as much respect from the New Zealand Public as a Rubbish Bin Man
Most MSM are absolutely captured, and do not actually perform any real 'reporting' or ' journalism' which requires research, neutrality and the obtaining and reporting of facts.
Good rant, I agree with getting a new plane. Maybe buy one for air nz. So it's in use most of the time. They service it. Can use it, but the pm has first call when needed. Maybe the green party could rent it, as they seem to do more air miles than anyone.
Only thing is that the 757 is not just a passenger plane like Air New Zealand operates. This thing has been re-engineered and reinforced so it can serve dual purposes 1. Carry passengers and troops when needed. 2. Slide out the passenger seat capacity and carry cargo loads or 3. a combination of the other 2. No standard anz plane can do that.
Thank you for allowing us to comment..i will be deletimg the news channels now..noticed we could comment when arvi came to nz then as soon as he left no comments came straight back..
Many aeroplanes are kept serviceable and reliable when of much greater age than the ones that the NZDF cannot seem to maintain to an acceptable standard. No sense buying them a newer one that they have to learn on. Economies need to be made in all areas not just the public service.
Funnily enough, they kept the Hercules flying for 60 years, and the Orions for roughly the same span. The RNZAF don't make a habit of taking the risk of killing vips, so even the smallest fault has to be taken as serious hence, the grounding of flights .
All the Govt needs to do is buy a Boeing C 40, which like the P 8 Posesidon, which are military versions of the Boeing 737 700 and 800 respectively . Hence they be the same platform and would be both serviced by aircrew with only the same training.
Kapa haka troupe… A list or C list. Why did Luxon think the troupe necessary to a Trade Delegation. I can’t think of any other country that brings a ‘cultural’ element to a Trade event.. do the Canadians bring Inuit dancers, the USA a Cherokee group, the UK Morris Dancers.. no. So why are we spending hard earned and in short supply coin on kapa haka. Perhaps Luxon sees these grifters as A listers.. pretty well sums up our PM.
trevor.. highly unlikely. With the Japanese it’s all about business. It’s more likely Luxon opted to include the troupe. Unsurprisingly tone deaf considering the shortage of funding for essential services.
Have they thought about what caused the plane to be faulty instead of just concluding they need another one? Maybe unqualified technicians or lack of training to service and fix these planes?
well that mean the people servicing the the plane's get the same tax advantage as the rich land lords , so they can afford to live in new zealand to service the planes
The plane does not need replacing. New Zealand as a country needs to live within its means How much respect at home and abroad do u think Luxinda would get if he flew air New Zealand 🇳🇿 You don’t buy new carpet if your roof leaks.
There isn't any need for tagalongs especially journalists on overseas missions to be paid for from the public purse. So I question the need for any special plane for use by the government. All places politicians want to go to are serviced by commercial airlines. As to the military, they need a dedicated multi-purpose aircraft for troop and equipment deployment as needed. Let them lease one that's suitable for all their purposes including S & R.
Stop defending the Prime Minster. He doesnt need you defending him. Luxon is a serious player? How? He was CEO of Air NZ, which is half owned by the govt, has a monopoly in the market and only has an safety video to point to for innovation. No one knows who Luxon is in Japan. So for him to throw a good chunk of the business community in the C catergory isnt a good look for someone who is supposed to pride himself on his business credentials. In terms of the plane, sell it. Govt owns half of Air NZ and has bailed it our at least twice that I can recall. Surely as the majority shareholder, we can get a plane out of them?
Got told no more free riders so no need to replace as politicians who have meetings can travel economy When need to go to destinations without internet connection an can not have a face to face on-line this saving billions on unnecessary travel.
The C list comment was Luxon waxing lyrical. There was no truth in it. Luxon trying to say his delegation is better than all the others. Plainly not true. It was a glimpse of what goes on in his head. His critical thinking is woeful. Judgement is poor his ability to think on the fly is poor. I'm of the view Luxon has reached one rung above his ability. Hosking tried hard to find away though the gaff for Luxon and he failed. Even tried to sandwich it with the airplane problems. Hosking blamed the media lol of which he is one and he is more opinionated that most
Geez Luxon trying to score petty political points puts his foot in his mouth about trade delegates / large company CEOs etc and Miks's spin is he was not only right it was great. - get a grip please
Yes we need a new plane more than we need tax breaks for property speculating landlords. FFS just go and buy one. It's like going to the golf club and having the crappiest car in the car park.
I don’t know anyone that gives a tinker’s cuss about this guys “thoughts”. It’s the same old blah blah for years now, who on earth pays this guy to blather on his personal opinion as though it’s fact?

Before getting new plane, get some microphones for the tagalongers so we can hear the questions, even the sign language people know the questions.
maybe , because they know the questions before hand

I respect the rubbish collection people a HELL of a lot more. The journo's could all do with a bit of humility, it would serve them well!
Rubbish collectors have a far higher status with the general public than any press gallery journalist !!
get some very trendy cool clothes in Hospice Shops so mind your manners

Thinking outside the square. Like it.

Lucky your not in charge John - your degree form the aviation academy of Facebook is showing😂
air new zealand lots of planes sitting , because no parts to service the planes
dont take the press ....fixed it...easy peasy
Heil Roslyn - spoken like a true dictator 😂

Those useless cunce will take any free ride !.
kapa haka troupe defo c listers not needed
I would guess that the Japanese PM asked for them to be included.
trevor.. highly unlikely. With the Japanese it’s all about business. It’s more likely Luxon opted to include the troupe. Unsurprisingly tone deaf considering the shortage of funding for essential services.
@@barefootonasandybeach638 Funding would not have come into it. The plane was going anyway.

Oh so glad that you get it Mike? The PM needs to use a bit more thought before he speaks!
well all his thoughts come from the wef , the internet is only so good
Just go to the storage in mohajve and buy something better
Like it,😂
Great to see the head of Air NZ serving passengers in such a humble way.
Lucky there was no sudden turbulence to throw him around the cabin!
Humble? All the passengers lost over two hours for the C-Listers…
They should have gotten vouchers instead of a cup of iced water by the executive😂
That prick is nothing more than a show pony .
D-Listers

Hosking is a first-rate arse kisser. Bends over backward to make excuses for National and this coalition govt.
A wiley fox you are not. The dogs would catch you very easily.

Have you got a spare $200 million for it as that is the minimum of what it will take.

Partisan propaganda and right wing entertainment, nothing intelligent here.
