  • What is understitching and when do you do it?
Understitching is a technique used to stop facings from peeking out from the inside of garments. If you attach a facing to a neckline or armhole etc., you can stitch the seam allowances to the facing, close to the seam line, and this will help keep it stay on the inside where it belongs.
Understitching is one of those nifty sewing techniques that may seem small but makes all the difference to your me-made garments.

TYSM! Actually ’showing’ the process is MUCH more easy to understand than just narrating! Good job. 👏🏻

Thankyou so much. A brilliant video. Short and to the point. Now onto the neckline and armholes of my hopefully first 50s Vintage make dress. I'm still very much a newbie ❤

How do you understitch a facing that has a corner that hasn’t been turned out? ( the corner being where the facing on the button band makes a corner to the neckline). I am trying to sew Colette’s violet, and my new-to-sewing self can not figure this out 🤔
