    I'm a 70-yr old fan of BabyMetal that has been around the music block a few times; I remember watching the first Elvis nationwide performance on the Ed Sullivan show in '56; I remember the first Beatles show (also on Ed Sullivan); in both cases, they were (literally) jaw-dropping magical. I got the same connection the first time I saw BM. To me, they've raised metal to a new and totally different plane. They're magic! Btw, the two back-up girls are Yui & Moa, and Su the lead vocalist.

      This is one of the many reasons I love this band. They break age barriers between generations. My kid's 15, 6, 4, & 3 LOVE BABYMETAL. My youngest daughter, the 3yo, love's BABYMETAL in her own special way. I wrote a post on Reddit on Thanksgiving about it. Kitsune up my friend.

      Your Reddit post was probably one of my top favourite posts. We all love it when Babymetal brings people closer together and your story is extra special. i hope you are all doing well.

      autohmae: I sometimes forget how small the internet connections can be. Thank you. And we are doing great so far. Karate, or Ghosts as she calls it, is still her favorite.

    Yui and Moa's guitars are ESP Mini-Arrows. Some people have commented on the irony of Su singing the line "louder than an atom bomb" in PainKiller..... because Su's home town is Hiroshima! Anyway, a truly great performance from all concerned...and of course a great reaction!!! :)

    I want to explain their fox sign and give you a little background Babymental. Their sign came along because when they were formed they knew nothing about metal and when they were shown a picture of "The horns" they thought it looked like a fox, kind of how you make a fox shadow on the wall with your hands. Their handlers decided to go with it. The 3 girlsl started as a part of Sakura Gakuin a j-pop idol group of about 15 girls. They had a tv show sort of like American Idol but instead of competing with each other they would build up the girls. They got separated into sub groups and the members of Babymetal were put into the Heavy Music club. For what I've seen the show target audience is from 7 to about 15 years of age, so their first single Doki Doki Morning sounds a little child like. At first since they were performing in Sakura Gakuin and doing some of their "club" songs by themselves in the same they didn't play with a live band. Sometimes there were some people in costumes behind them pretending to play, That's probably where most of the criticism comes from. They are very honest about not knowing what to think about metal at first. They grew up liking J pop but then starting liking Metal at first due to it's deeper lyrics and then starting liking the more intense music. Su (main vocalist) was told to use her natural voice with Sakura Gakuin. BabyMetal music was so much more demanding and their next song "Megitsune" was going to include some Enka elements so she started taking singing lessons. They did not start playing with a live band until late 2012. Interesting note: "Road of Resistance" is a collaboration song with Dragonforce. I am not sure if Dragonforce contributed to any other songs in their second CD.

    We of THE ONE are always loving those who react to Babymetal because we get to relive and reinvigorate ourselves through those type of reactions. When each of us first discovered Babymetal, without fail we had that initial "WTF?" reaction. Then we watched another video...then another...and usually by the third video we were convinced of the legitimacy and uniqueness of that which is Babymetal. We fans love seeing the same expressions in others that are discovering Babymetal recently. That is why anyone who does a Babymetal reaction video will get a large number of people viewing them. We just want everyone to join the experience.

    • @Varksterable
      @Varksterable 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was wondering why I was watching this too. And you have probably hit the nail on the head, Tawnku.
      I think I came here for that same kind of 'confirmation/empathy/nostalgia' you talk about.
      I was already a huge Babymetal fan coming here (they literally got me through the day for about 2 years) and yet..
      I have followed most of Chainsaw's reactions to BM now because he does actually give another perspective from time to time.
      I'd not *really* noticed how good the base was, tbh. (If I play at all, it's got 6 strings. ;) Nor much about the overall composition; I just immediately liked the songs (and ofk the dancing and cuteness).
      But the biggest thing this 'reacts to' has given me is the live performances. I'd watched all the official videos, and got the albums, and watched a few live performances; and imo the studio stuff was always far more polished and just.. better.
      But the live stuff that has been picked out for reactions here has completely changed that. So thanks to both Chainsaw and to your fans for suggesting the things to react to. And also thanks to Babymetal, of course. And the Foxgod. Because he, apparently, KNOWS. /wink

      You hit the proverbial nail on the the proverbial head. It took me like three tracks (Megitsune tipped me over) from me going from a skeptic to a trüe believer, and I constantly been proselytizing the "Trüe Gospel" among my friends ever since. Watching "react to babymetal" vids reminds me of my first impression and reaction to the force of nature that is Babymetal and keeps re-invigorating me in my tireless work of spreading the Gospel of the Kitsune to the masses. I hate to be the hipster in the crowd but Babymetal caught me at their inception, and I've been following their progress ever since with joy.

    The AMPA Awards were July 18th 2016. BABYMETAL started the set with all three girls on stage for Karate before going into Painkiller/Breakin' the Law. Even if they have a huge fan base (I'm one), it still meant the world to them to share the stage with Halford, who has been super cool and supportive of them since they met at a festival several years ago. He's gotten crap from some Judas Priest fans for it, but stuck to his guns.

    My profile picture is from this video. You are exactly right about wanting to see people's reactions to BABYMETAL. It's always great to see people's faces when they first find them. I would love to see you react to either Black Babymetal onedari daisakusen, which is the two younger ones Yui Metal and Moa Metal, or Su Metal akatsuki, either the unfinished one or the regular one. I thoroughly enjoy your reactions because they're so genuine. Keep it up!

    Really enjoying your reactions to Baby Metal! The magic of Baby Metal comes from somewhere most Westerners are unfamiliar with. It comes from the three girls backgrounds as Japanese Idols. The Idol systems in both Japan & Korea produce very well trained entertainers who are trained to sing and dance. These girls have been trained from a very young age to follow very precise choreography and to be able to sing while doing it. Their backup band is basically a "Who's Who" of musicians from Japan....like an all-star band. Mix the speed and crunch of metal with the vocals and melody of Jpop idol music and put it in a blender and you get Baby Metal.
    I will leave you with two words....Sakura Gakuin....this is the girls Japanese idol group/TV show that they were all in since they were around 8 years old....but I have to warn you....if you follow down this rabbit hole, I can't be held responsible for what happens! Lots of videos and episodes to watch. A good video for you to react to would be "Song for Smiling."
    PS: The cutest thing the world has ever seen is the 10-year old Yui Mizuno (YuiMetal)!!....cuter than babies or puppies or unicorns.......

  • @X1xone
    @X1xone 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good job. Their names are basically Su (the singer), Yui and Moa (with Metal added at the end). Only Moa, the girl on the right, can actually play the guitar, and was probably mixed pretty low after the initial riff.

  • @Bloosee
    @Bloosee 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Here are their names..... Su-metal center, Moametal right side of screen, Yuimetal left. The band is the Kami band. At least know Su-metal, she is the vocalist.
    The guitar playing was a very controversial part of the performance, most said they were not playing them. I think they were playing the guitars but were mostly buried in the mix. I'm not sure Rob would have wanted Air-guitar players on stage with him.

  • @bonhzeppelin9882
    @bonhzeppelin9882 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Moametal and Yuimetal have been taking guitar lessons for several or more years, so it's a pretty good bet they played. There have been others that said they didn't, but Breaking the Law's guitar chords are Stupid easy to learn and play!

  • @Glynthepin
    @Glynthepin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thank you for another reaction video. In time you will get to know the girls names - Su, Moa and Yui and tell them apart. The Kami band does occasionally change, only one at a time, I think, depending on their commitments outside BabyMetal. What you reflect so well is the entertainment, joy and all round good feeling a BabyMetal performance achieves. Just look at Su's face, she is grinning from ear to ear and clearly delighted and overjoyed to be on stage with Rob.

    Just watched your videos Rondo and the calibration with Halford both are amazing, performing with Rob gives them a lot of metal cred. In Rondo, Su's outfit changes between Red night and Black night, I think both yui and moa's change as well. I think these girls are amazing, I hope they have a great career, I 'm looking forward to hearing more. I am very impressed. I can tell you 're becoming a big fan.

    It's always fun to see someone discover Babymetal. It's just so different and fun and really good. However, most people doing reactions are J-pop and K-pop fans and aren't really into or even know much about metal. That's why your reaction videos are much better. You're coming from a metal background and can really appreciate the music and musicianship as well as the J-pop aspects.
    So far we have been directing you to the more metal songs and it'll interesting to see your take on some of the more J-pop songs like Doki Doki Morning and Iine. I like there more pop stuff too but my most favorite are the more metal songs. I do love the two more pop songs from the new album, Yava and Awadama Fever. Awadama Fever is pure J-pop when it comes to vocals but the riffs behind it are brutal. Yava is a J-pop/ska/metal song. It's fuckin' brilliant.
    Oh, and just to start off the lead singer is Su (pronounced like the English name Sue). Full name is Suzuka (like Suzuki with an a) but Su or Su-Metal is what she generally goes by.

    Ive been raised on metal. All the old classics like iron maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, among others just too many to list. And I also am a big fan of a lot of newer stuff like a7x, ghost and so on. I've never taken to a band as fast as I did like baby metal. It started off as confusion but it turned me into a big fan. I'm on week 8 or so of my obsession with this band and it's still going strong. I will admit I had heard about these girls before and I had kinda laughed them off just by their name and such without hearing their music and I completely regret that decision. These girls have been a big highlight for me in 2017. I can't wait for their next album.

    I love your reactions because you are a music fan, some people just go "aaw, look at their clothes!, how cute!, look at the dance moves!" and say nothing about the music, the band playing or her vocals.
    for next reactions try "akatsuki", "megitsune", "headbanger", "amore", "babymetah death" or "onedari daisakusen". obisously live, they are better live!. (the "megitsune" viodeoclip is cool too).

      Especially right now, in the past couple of months or so, there has been very little actual Babymetal news or performances, so people are very eager to check out anything BM-related, such as reactions. But your reactions are of a significantly higher level in terms of honesty and thoughtfulness, compared to most others, so even if it wasn't a slow-BM-news-day, we'd still be coming to check them out.

    Moimoi (Moa and Yui) actually playing at that show has been much under debate, it's known they can play, and learning one song for a show is not super difficult, but considering everything else in their schedule when would they have time.

    • @ShikataGaNai100
      @ShikataGaNai100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yui slammed some power chords and Moa played 2nd lead. When would they have the time? They are professional musicians; that is their full-time job. Would you ask the same question of SCANDAL doing a new song? I always love it when folks start talking shit about abilities of A-List celebs. Like when people kept saying that Ono Haruna was just a fair rhythm player...then she did the Shoujo S live solo and blew everybody away, including Mami. These folks don't make millions because they are sitting on their asses all day. Sorry to sound so negative, but, I've been pro since 1966 and I get tired of hearing who can and can't play this or that.

    Great reaction again. If you *really* want to learn the girls' names, then you need only watch/react to the song "BABYMETAL DEATH". I'm sure others have given you links to it before. I'm not sure which concert to recommend it from, so go by whatever the other fans have already suggested. The song is basically an introduction song to the band, and incidentally is also one of the heaviest of their songs in terms of the music. BTW, the usage of the word 'DEATH' in Japanese metal songs is a common play-on-words, because it is pronounced (by Japanese people) identically to the native Japanese word 'desu', which (very) roughly translates as "It is" or "I am" or "We are". So "Babymetal DEATH" sounds like "Babymetal desu", which translates to "We are Babymetal". And in the song, the girls each introduce themselves with "Su-metal DEATH" = "I'm Su-metal", "Yuimetal DEATH" = "I'm Yuimetal", and "Moametal DEATH" = "I'm Moametal". It's cute, silly, cool, and heavy all at the same time. Also, it's one of their songs that is absolutely 100% better live than the album version. There are only live video versions of the song anyway, no MV, so you just have to pick which concert version got the best recommendations.

    In the Event that you hadn't already knew this Babymetal has recently been on tour with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers In the United States, and late last year in The UK, between the two tours with the Chilli Peppers they did a couple mini tours with Metallica in Korea and Guns N Roses in Japan! I have another Japanese band I want to suggest to you and that would be SCANDAL. Most of thier official music videos are blocked on youtube in the US but you can find plenty of live performances and honestly I think SCANDAL is better live anyway! I would suggest you start with one of the following songs ... Scandal Baby, Awanai Tsumori No Genki De Ne, Onegai Navigation, Shunkan Sentimental, or Doll.

    I still find it hilarious that Su had to sing both Painkiller and Breaking the law. Japanese people have a notably hard time with L's in English. Japanese only has 1 sound for L and R when they speak, so "Painkiller" sounds like "Painkirer", and Law sounds like Raw. It's awesome they did this, but I just had the biggest smile on my face. That being said, Su actually did a pretty good job. She has dedicated a lot of time to learning English. Nowadays she speaks English good enough to do interviews in English.

    I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but the girls have said in an interview that the sign of the fox god, their unique version of the devil horns, was made when they were just starting out and heard metal for the first time. They tried to emulate the devil horns and couldn't get it right. One of the staff mentioned that it looked like a fox and it kind of stuck.

    • @johnschultz7765

      They borrowed from traditional shadow play. The fox sign was closest to the devil horns.

    So lots of debate about if they were really playing or not. One of the girls, Moa has been playing guitar for a few years and may have been doing some of the rhythm guitar. Pretty sure Yui's guitar was just for looks.

    • @glenbe4026
      @glenbe4026 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yui has been learning recently though. And though she wasn't exactly confident, it would not be hard to play the right chords for a limited contribution.

    • @robharwood3538
      @robharwood3538 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My theory: 1) This collaboration had been planned months in advance. It needed to be, in order to give Su-metal enough time to practice the vocals. 2) I highly doubt either Rob or Koba would have been satisfied to put Yui and Moa up with guitars, only to play air guitar. If they weren't going to actually play guitar, they might as well have just done some dancing instead. 3) Thus, Yui and Moa had months to practice available to them. 4) They also had access to *several* genius-level guitarists, including Mikio, who is already a master guitar teacher. 5) Yui and Moa did not need to play anything complex, since the other guitarists could handle any parts that the girls were not able to handle (and they did, especially the solos for example). They only needed to play very simple riffs and chords, and those only occasionally. 6) The girls did *also* do some air guitar parts, especially later in the song, when they teamed up with the Kami guitarists. But that doesn't detract from any *actual* playing that they did. 7) Yui and Moa are very dedicated and would have practiced like crazy, given the chance. 8) Moa in particular had already been learning guitar for years. 9) So, the girls had a) plenty of time and b) tons of dedication and motivation and c) some of the best possible teachers available, to d) learn very simple guitar parts and e) practice and rehearse them like crazy, and f) it would have been pointless to give them guitars in the first place if they could just as easily have done some dance routine instead. In other words, there are literally no barriers to them actually learning and playing those simple guitar parts. Plus, 10) they (especially Yui) was probably mixed at low volume (or even muted) just to be on the absolute safe side during the majority of the song. But even if that is the case, it doesn't mean they didn't play, it just means you couldn't hear them play. Also 11) Both (but especially Moa) seemed at some parts of the song to be playing correctly and in time. (At other times, later in the song, they were clearly air-guitaring, but again that doesn't detract from the times, earlier in the song, that they were playing.)
      And finally, for me the nail in the coffin, 12) Moa later said in an interview (though I can't remember where; I think it was in print, not video or audio, but I could be wrong) that she was playing in that performance.
      So, because it is entirely possible that they could have, and because there's no reason for the guitars if they weren't going to, and because Moa herself says she was, therefore I think it's entirely reasonable to believe that both Moa and Yui (but especially Moa) were actually playing. Not the whole song, not all the parts. Just simple guitar parts, probably the very opening riff along with some simple chords thereafter. And maybe not entirely audible at certain points. But still, actually playing.

    im not really sure about yui playing anything else than the intro riff, but checking moa you can clearly see (if you play the guitar and know this song) she is playing it. At least on the guitar, i dont know if they were in the mix, but at least she was playing the entire song (checked some fancams)

  • @pelgervampireduck
    @pelgervampireduck 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    moa plays guitar so maybe she was playing for real and the riff is not that hard, yui doesn't know guitar so it was a prop for her. anyway the guys were louder in the mix, I think moa's guitar got buried in the mix.

    • @SylviusTheMad
      @SylviusTheMad 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for explaining that. It was pretty clear in the video that Moa knew what she was doing with the guitar, but Yui was at best a beginner who wasn't ready for this song.
      But the two have always had strengths and weaknesses. From their earliest days in Sakura Gakuin, Yui was clearly the better dancer, and Moa was clearly the better singer.

    • @glenbe4026
      @glenbe4026 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yui has been learning the guitar recently also. It is generally believed that they were playing to some degree (In Yui's case though, just some basic chords).

      they have been learning guitar from the main guitarist of the Kami band kind of behind the scenes. The main riff of the song isnt that difficult to learn so i expect both of them to actually be playing that riff, but as for the solo that was the main guitarist. Seemed as though they both learned the tremolo part but most of it was all the main guitarist.
