Im a baby metal convert. From not having listened to metal for the last 10 years. I love this group. Their energy and enthusiasm is fantastic
The hate usually is based on the fact that BABYMETAL are put together by a producer from a JPop label. He goes by KobaMetal and is a big fan of metal & motivated to create a group that would blend the world of JPop & metal. He saw the metal seen shrinking in Japan and wanted to get more people listening to metal. Every BABYMETAL show starts with a video pretty stating why BABYMETAL exists.

Jimmy K I'm afraid you're completely wrong. Koba is the creator and master mind of BABYMETAL, he built the group around Su, BABYMETAL is his idea from the start.

The first comment I am making is before I have watched your reaction video: You probably could not have picked a more perfect example of a Babymetal live performance than this one. It is truly legendary. In the pouring rain, in front of tens of thousands of people in a foreign land, working the audience like they have been doing it for decades. If this does not make you become a Babymetal fan, then I don't think you ever will be. Now I will watch the rest of your video...
Actually, the finger gesture is made with the index and pinky finger straight up, the ring, and middle finger extended straight out with the thumb touching underneath to form the "Fox Sign", a tribute to the Fox God which is what Babymetal says inspires them.
"Karate" is off their 2016 release of "Metal Resistance"..."Gimme Chocolate" was off their self titled debut album.
Your confusion of why the haters hate Babymetal is perfectly stated. I have been alive since before metal music was ever conceived, and have loved metal music in all its sub-genres for many decades. I absolutely love Babymetal and I know they are more metal than any self proclaimed metal elitist who hates them will ever be.

Honestly, I've yet to see a bad live performance from Babymetal. I've seen good performances, and I've seen brilliant performances, but never a bad one.
They're always amazing live. The only difference is the video and sound quality of the recording. But what makes a great Babymetal video is the crowd.

Gimme Chocolate was 1st album. Karate 2nd. And I agree with you here. I got sucked in by Babymetal last year and now I'm hooked. And I have been a metalhead for almost my entire 33 years of life.
Also, I'd suggest a reaction to Road of Resistance.
If you have ever heard of the Kerrang! Awards, Babymetal won "Best Live Band" 2016. Best Live Performance on TH-cam right now is probably still 'Road of Resistence' LIVE in Japan, or their colaberation with Rob Halford from Judas Priest.
I was on the barrier at Download for Babymetal. It rained so heavily just before they were due to go on that they were delayed by half an hour. When they came on they smashed it! Their live shows are unbelievable! Cool reaction ^^
Suzuka Nakamoto has fucking PIPES. Did not expect her to be able to belt out those last two long notes at the end so perfectly based on how amazing they sounded in the studio version. I need to see them live holy crap!
And the great thing is that she's just getting better and better. Her latest performances have surprised even long-time fans.

And she was only 18 years old. :-) Akatsuki unifinished is also a favourite of many Babymetal fans from when she was still 2 years younger.
Karate was their lead single from their last album and Gimme Chocolate was from the first. Audience participation during their shows is a huge part of what they do. The lead singer is Su and the two other girls are Yui and Moa. The band is Takayoshi Ohmura on guitar, Mikio Fujioka on guitar, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums (for this show). You don't really get to see what the band can do too much on this one.
You should do Ijime Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere 2014. It's beast mode with some fantastic dueling guitar solos. Then do their most epic live video Road Of Resistance.
It's on their second album, Metal Resistance. The whole album is dope!

I can relate. I found them in 2019 from a different reaction video. I loved them immediately. I didn't know such a thing was possible. But i forgot about them for almost a year before i really checked out more of their songs.

I know a lot of people are suggesting Road of Resistance, absolutely check it out and if you're a fan of Su Metal's ( the main singer's voice) check out the one of her solos. The two other girl's, Yui Metal and Moa Metal, do a couple of songs by themselves as well. All are kick ass.

Their second album is so good. It blew away their first album. Sis Anger should be your next song; reaction or not.
I think most of the haters you see are trolls. They're just shitposting to rile up the fans, and to get a reaction. For the ones that are hating for real, I believe they are just reacting the way a human does to something completely different and not part of their norm. I've seen quite a few haters in the comments that come back a few weeks later and tell us their journeys of becoming a huge fan after looking more into them.
People think BABYMETAL are just Gimme Chocolate and end it there, but they don't realize that it goes waaaaaay deeper than that one song.
NORAD yup that's true:) at first I didn't like babymetal after watching gimme chocolate, I think it was creepy.. but 1 month later I played another video and now I'm a huge fan of them:) I can't stop watching their performance till now.. they are awsome!!!!!!!! and now my goal is to go to one of their concert in japan;D

I'm not going to go through all that work. Just scroll through the comments of the official videos and you come across those kinds of stories a lot. Plus the other person that replied to this comment is a perfect example.
When I saw Gimme Chocolate the first time I was like "WTF is this?" And stop watching after 30s. But when some more of their videos pop up, I some how couldn't resist the play buttons... (Lyrics of YAVA song is what to describe what I felt at that time XD) i'm their fan now
What did i think about that live version? Dude, i was in that fucking crowd enjoying the show. And i'm telling you, they are even BETTER when you are actually there than they are on video! They'll be back for Download festival UK this summer, and they are my main priority along with Ozzy Osbourne and Guns'n Roses \m/

I applaud you for being open to new genres and subgenres. I love BabyMetal. They're terrific, especially since the release of their most recent album. And their band (especially Boh, their bass player) is amazing.

Yep. A lot of bands have one, or maybe two, really talented musicians, and the rest are average. With Babymetal, each member is really talented and could easily 'front' a band of their own (in fact, several of them do). There are no average players in the Kami Band.
This performance is the perfect response to "Babymetal isn't metal". Think about it.
First, they're performing at the Download Festival, the premiere heavy metal festival in the UK. some of the biggest names in metal perform at that festival including some of the legends like Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne and Megadeath. The list of bands is a literal who's who of heavy metal.
Second, watching the video, you will notice that the audience starts singing along right from the start which tells you that they are very familiar with the song, a song performed by a Japanese band, performing in the UK.
Third, toss in a little "raining like a bitch" and nobody seems to care.
So, what you have is an audience consisting of thousands of heavy metal fans at THE heavy metal event of the year singing along with a band, fronted by little 3 girls, in a band from the other side of the planet.
You can't get much more metal than that.

Just so he isn't confused, "Akatsuki" and "Rondo of Nightmare" are both Su-Metal solos. Su-Metal is the lead singer. The other two are Yui-Metal and Moa-Metal. They also have a few songs that they do without Su-Metal such as "Sis Anger". Whenever Yui-Metal and Moa-Metal perform as a duo, they call themselves Black Babymetal.

Just FYI, when Babymetal first started out they didn't have a backing band and would sing to playback music. The video you saw of Gimme Chocolate was them singing live to playback music. Now they do all shows completely live.

Karate came out in 2016, while Gimme Chocolate came out in 2013. They are a much different band now than they were back in 2013. Their 2nd album that came out last year is much more metal than the first one.
This band is so awesome. They have such a melodic sound with heavy af guitar riffs and a great drummer. Anyone who hates this band just to hate can drink a bleach cocktail

Listen to Sis Anger too, it´s the heaviest song they have.

Onedari Daisakusen is most commonly described as nu metal, or as one reviewer put it - as BABYMETAL doing a Limp Bizkit style song better than Limp Bizkit ever did.

You were close to the hand symbol. Their signature is the Fox God symbol.. fingers out, not tucked in. It started out as them misinterpreting the hand symbol, but is caught on and worked with something that represents their culture...The Fox God= Kitsune. Most all their songs have a message and in the short time I have followed them, they have been awesome!

Seriously man, you have just dived in head first into the Babymetal rabbit-hole. Many of us have been just where you are right now, and we have no regrets. You're gonna love it! They really are a crazy, incredible thing.
Haters gonna hate. Personally, I think they are driven by some sort of fear that 'pop' is gonna kill their beloved 'metal'. It makes no sense, but fear often doesn't. Babymetal have actually proven that pop and metal are more like chocolate and peanut butter than anyone had previously thought.
I'm predicting that you'll have a hard time holding off of binge-watching a bunch of BM videos. So, instead of torturing yourself, maybe think about binge-reacting to a bunch of BM videos all at once so that you don't have to hold back for days/weeks. Eventually you'll want to just get their two albums, and then maybe you could do a review or two.
Aside from the albums, the official YT channel has the core music videos and some live performances. But there are tons and tons of other videos (mainly live performances, fancams, and interviews) scattered around YT. Take your pick. I bet you'll like/love more than 95% of them. And, eventually, head on over to /r/BABYMETAL on reddit for the latest stuffs.

one thing i must say...BABYMETAL is one of the best LIVE PERFORMER band/group out of the century...nope this is not a bias comment..they're one of a kind on the live..you can barely point out some band artists who are more good live than the studio version mainstream or not and BABYMETAL is one of them..
When they saw corna, they mistook it as fox. Since then, they pretend that it didn't happen and it is their original sign.

If you're doing "Road of Resistance Live in Japan" next - like I and a lot of commenters have suggested - and you're worried about getting a copyright claim, please don't go for another version or pitch the audio but do a countdown. Even it is just for this one. I'm positive that no one will have a problem with that or will find it "too much work".
Yeah, I agree. It's really just two things: 1) Count down before you click play, 2) Provide a link to the original in your video description. The company Amuse tends to rely on TH-cam's auto-detection system and they will 'strike' anything it detects. Unfortunate for reaction videos, but them's the breaks.

Let me just say: from what I've seen in the past. You can't upload Road of Resistance Live video without getting it marked for copyright unless you remove the audio or heavily change it ! So make sure you record the audio of your voice separately.
There are a lot of good live versions of the song.
Studio versions were mixed long ago, are overcompressed etc., live is always better as Su's voice has only gotten better.

Not the same album. Karate is on their second album and Gimme Chocolate is on their first. I know because I have both albums digitally and I’ve preordered their third which will be the last one with Yuimetal

Vim comentar por que conheci esse grupo, no ínicio achei que não era sério, más após ouvir a música Road of resistance e Karate é impossível não gostar do instrumental bem trabalhado e melódia agradavel. Creio que Babymetal será uma espécie de RBD(grupo mexicano famoso) só que na vertente metal, tbm acho que Su-Metal tem uma voz muito agravel atualmente, talvez a banda seria melhor se fosse somente ela de vocalista. Brasil!!!!!
