I also listened to this song almost every night before bed when I lived in Mount Isa (North Queensland, Australia). I also went to primary school at Happy Valley State School (albeit in 2016). Cool coincidence, hey?
heard this on the radio 30 years ago and loved the song couldnt find the song or the groups name again until youtube came along thank heavens for youtube
@@abelhansen probably not now.I bought the cds directly from one of the singers I can't remember which one and that was a long time ago..They are probably dead now
On the one hand, I absolutely love this song, on the other I'm absolutely opposed to whaling! It's an odd mix, but the tune of a song is so much more important than the topic, I think.
@KKlawm I'm totally opposed to whaling too, but the whale lives on in this song like in "Moby Dick", which this song was based on. "The whale it goes on living, but inside it bears a scar..." I wouldn't have posted this song if they actually killed the whale. I wrote something about this in the description beneath the video. Also, the images that I selected all show living whales.
I kind of knew Fred Dyer who lived up in around Toronto NSW (Lake Macquarie) and when he and Terry wrote this song, they were driving a truck across the Nullabor. I came to know him as he was teaching Conversational English online in an early chat programme called Mirc. He was a really nice bloke, an Englishman. Not sure if he is around anymore, it's been at least 15 years since we spoke.
