I was a backing singer on this record. Hard to believe it's so long ago, and yet lm still so young. Recorded in Armstrong Studios in Sth Melbourne and produced by Ian Meldrum. What a memory!
Superb. Don't dare tell me today's music is better. Don't dare compare our Colleen to Ms. Tits I am a tiger. No contest. A little anecdote is required. Latish 80s, I was tidying up my degree working bars n shit. Anyway one place I poured drinks had Colleen on the 2nd floor. I'm early 20s cleaning up rabble on the 1st and locking up. Upstairs Colleen started singing, she was Dreaming her Dreams and dating young football stars. Man. what a knockout. She so delivered to this average crowd of punters. So fantastic I remember to this day. Love you Colleen.
what about those moir sisters - !!! dam there was talent back then that should not just disappear in the tides of fashion - it was fkn brilliant then, it is fkn brilliant now - triple j should take its youthful head out its corporate arse and get a new mantra " we love live music" is soooo. 'yeah even if its shit'. How about ' we don't do fashion, we do quality', and play heaps of Colleen Hewitt!! Pass on Molly though, never could cope with him.
@@kparker2430 I've never known a musician who knew him who didn't hate Casting Couch Molly. I have always heard he scuttled the carrers of men who weren't . . Accomodating
I would love to meet Colleen, what a brave woman. SHE grew up on cabal Melbourne AND SHE went for it, regardless. Wowee SHE is INCREDIBLE I MUST SAY SHE, truly IS. 🏵 OMG I AM in awe of YOU. The rest of the world HAS NO CLUE About YOU. I DO SO, personal a big thanks From little me one 🌹 Colleen, you ROCKED MY WORLD. Forever grateful Praise The Lord
Colleen did well but it was the Molly Meldrum input that made this track the masterpiece it is was. Molly was the creative force behind 'Real Thing' too. The arrangement of music is a hugely important thing.
I must have sang this in front of the mirror into my hairbrush a thousand times. What a great voice, and great production by molly meldrum. I love colleen doing this number to this day. I learnt alot about singing doing this song with her in my mums bedroom, belting it out, over & over again. The single got bruised...so did my voice.
I remember driving in my car years ago and this song came on the radio. I felt such a powerful presence of the Holy Spirit in my car it was overwhelming!! I will never forget that moment and I relive it whenever I hear this beautiful song!!!!
lAnother classic from Australia's favorite weekend show Hey Hey it's Saturday from the 70s . Love this version of this song.very powerful voice from Miss Hewitt . Lol at Molly Meldrum clowning around 😂😂😂😂😂😂😊😊😊
Lovely amazing Colleen has a beautiful grandmother from GHANA ! that explains her superb soulful powerful voice !!! most under rated singer maybe in the world. I love you Colleen.!!!
WOW. I fell in love with Colleen when I was 10.She will always be in my heart. Her voice.Oh wow.Incredible.Colleen is beautiful. She has a beautiful voice. An Australian icon.I wish always the best for Colleen.❤️
I just found Colleen via her short appearance on Prisoner! She was fabulous in that and when she first sang...woah! so naturally I looked her up and have now stumbled upon her many songs! She sings this so amazingly well! A fantastic artist to be sure!
I practiced for months as a choirboy at St Pauls with Frank York and others as backing vocalists for Colleen Hewett. Just before the recording the track my 'voice broke' it still brings tears to my eyes when I hear the beauty of this song. For those who don't know about boychoirs watch the movie "boychoir" which summarises a small part of the skills needed to get into the choir and the amount of training required each week. Frank and others will remember having to go to St Pauls Cathedral at least 7 times per week. That's commitment.
Wow!!! Wasn't played here in the USA (I was only 6, but I've never heard it played), but I think it would've been a hit. Love her singing for The Lord.
I've been trying to get in contact with her for many years, she's my grandmother's cousin and I didn't know until I was an adult after singing along with her all my childhood. :')
Had a great voice, Colleen. If she was from the USA she would have been one of the all time great singers. Unfortunately, because she was from Australia she was reduced to recording cover versions in order to make a crust. Pity, because she usually produced a better version than the original! PS, love Mollys cameo!
Legend and best singer from Melbourne/Bendigo. Brilliant voice. Super sensational in 70s/80s. Saw her and Chrissy Amphlett in Boy from Oz with Hugh Jackman. Queen of Pop in 1972/1973. Queen of Moomba. Excellent.
Simply put: Each time l listen to this l'm ONLY EVER reminded of why l love JESUS. HIS LOVE ALWAYS BRINGS ME TO TEARS. Thanks Colleen for such a moment.😍😍😍
Colleen Hewitt with (the 1971) Boys of St Paul's Cathedral Choir, Melbourne, Victoria Australia. On this version, Colleen is singing live to the original recording backing track. God Bless.
I had the great pleasure of hosting Carols by Candlelight in Rockhampton in about 1990 for Channel Nine and Colleen was one of the headline acts. Apart from obviously being a superstar singer with a truly world-class voice, she was an incredibly funny, friendly, ballsy lady - outrageous fun backstage and a very warm and personable performer out front. And like all true greats - she made a magnificent performance look utterly effortless. A legitimate star who made my job so easy and enjoyable.
great voice. good old Molly, so glad he has over come accident. be watching him tomorrow night on the box. great memories of a great time for Australian music.
Wow, just imagine what she could do to a X factor, Voice type show, nah they just don't make em like this anymore, it was truly a wonderful time to grow up in and to live in Melbourne as well, thanks for uploading Agnetha010.
I hope I didn't seem harsh. I didn't quite explain myself, I have seen Colleen sing this live on a number of occasions and as much as I love the studio version, her live versions simply take your breath away.
I was a backing singer on this record. Hard to believe it's so long ago, and yet lm still so young. Recorded in Armstrong Studios in Sth Melbourne and produced by Ian Meldrum. What a memory!
My Dad was also one of the boys 😢 this is the only way I can listen to his voice now as he passed in Apr
Very cool...
That's something to be proud of♥️🙏
Wow @Martha, amazing BVs! Thank you for this amazing track! Beautiful memories ❤️
Colleen was an Australian Gem. Molly Meldrum is a PAEDOPHILE.

Can't resist another watch and listen whenever this scrolls past
best voice in Australia at the time and still would go close today
Hi Phil, I would say most definitely. With a voice like hers, she'd be trouncing the present day "artists".

Australians are a fun bunch. I've honestly never met one that I didn't like. Sadly, I don't think any have ever been equally fond of me. :(
Aw that's sad. Where are you from?
the best song she ever sang
One of Australia's all time greats and I'm from Western Australia.
What a voice and what a song..love you Colleen.

thanks so much for posting, a significant song from my childhood, and thanks Colleen!
Thanks for that. Would love to hear such singing live, sure it would move me to tears. Shalom.
Colleen I will always love you.
Not many singers make it their own, Colleen certainly did. Unique and not one of the also-rans we hear too often now.
I bought this record in 1972. Best version of all.
OMG! How cool to find this!! Memories of the '70s.
Awesome! You've made my day thanks.
Great lighting and direction........GTV 9 certainly knew how to do it
I adore this track. There's another extended version that is even better. I would have no idea that this singer was not American if not for youtube.
amazing singer, thumbs up!!
Colleen Hewitt with (the 1971) Boys of St Paul's Cathedral Choir, Melbourne, Victoria Australia.
On this version, Colleen is singing live to the original recording backing track.
