You are 100% correct. I have got quite dry lips. Matt lipsticks are very drying on me. Especially the retro matte finish from MAC. This primer lets me wear retro matte for longer time with a more natural fading and a smooth appearance. But when my lips were not as dry the primer did nothing.
I have dry lips and it did miracles for me.The make up artist in store suggested i put it first thing before i start my make up so it has time to sink in..and it works...love your videos!!!!
When I use the MAC lip primer, I apply it mostly to the lipline and then pat it in gently all around before applying lipstick on top. I don't really use it as a lip balm all over my lips. Used this way, it really helps with feathering.
And this is why I follow you, enjoy your content so much and listen to your tips and recommendations even though we differ in skin type, colours and age. You are interested, do research, try it several times to find ways to make products work for you, can recommend who it might be better suited for. And I love your personality 🙂 I am older and with dry skin, and enjoy this product, both with and without a lip product over it. I haven’t tried a liquid lipstick or the drier powder kiss types over it yet, but I think I shall try.
I appreciate how much information there is always on your reviews!! I have this primer and for me i don't see any benefits using it to make my lip product wear longer. But it is amazing to use under patchy lipsticks. It makes them apply so much smoother.
I love that product. My lips are dry and flaky in winter, it it great to smooth that over ahead of lipstick application, especially if it’s more of a matte lipstick.
I don't know why I am always suprised by how smart you are. I mean that as a compliment. You are just always a breath of fresh air for me. Your reviews are so thorough and competent. I have no questions left unanswered. Thank you for being awesome. Also .. I hope you were able to get the lippy out of your visor .. oopsies. lol Love youse xxx
I have bought this twice with a few years gap. I bought it the first time because the Kicks (Scandianavian makeup store, like Mecca) recommended I try it, and I thought "sure, why not!". I did not see any benefits whatsoever. I just felt like it was a siliconey mess that made my lipsticks slip and slide more than usual. I stopped using it, and in a declutter before I moved, I got rid of it. Just bought a new one, because I was shopping instore at Kicks, and the man who works the MAC-counter in my local Kicks store is amazing and charming and generally gives really good advice. He convinced me to try it. He told me that for him, it mainly helps fill in the lines on the lips, making application smoother and making matte lipsticks look nicer because they don't emphasize the lines. I don't know about that. I definitely don't like it as a lip balm! When it starts settling down, my lips just feel really sticky! I will try different ways of using it, taking advice from some of the comments to this video! Maybe I will like it, maybe I won't. Have you tried to LH Cosmetics lip primer, and do you know anything about how it compares to this?
Thanks for the review Kat. I have enjoyed wearing Mac lipsticks both matte and satin. I wear a lip liner just to shape my lips but it’s the lip liner that I thought would also prevent uneven wear around the edges. The product sounds interesting.
combo oily skin, dry lips, a certain age: a normal lip balm under a lipstick increase feathering in the fine lines around lips, sometimes even lip pencils melting into that damn fine lines... this primer don't. About longevity it depends what you mean: for me longevity is when the lipstick don't disappear AND when don't migrates everywhere on my face but stay where I put it regardless of the fine lines that form the boundary between oily skin and dry lips . So your review is EXTREMELY on point!
I use the Eve Lom kiss mix as a primer of sorts. I put it on with my skincare in the morning and it gives my lips moisture and makes all lipsticks look better. ☺️
I have found that this primer works for lipsticks that are difficult to apply, and for MAC satin or matte (like mehr) primer could make them last longer.
I have dry flakey lips on winter and this primer make me reach to mat lipstick even in that season. During summer I’ve quite normal lips and I agree with you, it’s not useful. I’m with you, it really depends on your skin type to know if it’s worth it or not. By now I’ve finish it and I’ve tried some “man” lip balm. I haven’t find nothing that is similar, but I’m still hunting!
I gotta say I am so impressed on how long your lipstick stays on. I apply my lips and the formula disappears almost immediately i would love to know what I am doing wrong.
I have very sensitive skin, and I'm not too big on primers in general but I received this complementary to a mac order I made once. When I put on lipstick, four times out of five my lips get a reaction and get red around the lip area. I've found using this primer helps avoid that. But still I don't think I would run out and buy a new one once this runs out, maybe as a gift w purchase... 🤷♀️
When I apply the primer I wait until it gets sticky before I apply my lipstick. It works fine for me that way, I have dry lips. My lipstick appears sheerer when I apply it too fast after the primer.
I have tried it that way since (I didn’t want to change up the way I applied it because I wouldn’t know if it’s the new lipstick or the application that changed the results), but sadly I had the same outcome. According to the reviews I read it’s not impressive on people who don’t have dry lips.
And now that I'm almost through your review video (i left the above comment when I started watching), I think I got it when i got the mac sin lipstick to help with all issues: longevity, feathering, fading, the glide upon application. I've since used it with mac sin, ruby woo, a colourpop matte liquid lipstick, and it helps a bit with the liquid lipstick but nothing else. I'd say it makes the skipping upon application worse with mac lipsticks bevause i have to go over again and again to get the colour coverage they should have. 🙄
I have sensitive, dry lips. I get eczema on my lips at times also. For me, the Colourpop lip primer does exactly the same thing as the MAC lip primer. It doesn’t help with longevity, but it is a hydrating lip balm that prevents feathering. It’s not worth the $$ for me when I have access to a more affordable option that does the same thing.
I had this product in my collection for years and it was good but finally declutted because I never ever reached for it! But that’s a me problem, I always skip primer steps.
You're probably like me, you skip it because it's not worth the extra step for you. I will definitely use it up as a lip balm, but I will probably pan it soon so I can back to Mac it haha
Second comment after watching. Sorry. Hope that isn’t annoying. How is your car?! Did a Tide Pen fix the stain? That made me cry out! Also, I hope the little buddy feels better.
I thought the Mac lip primer was originally made for those uber drying, stay put, liquid matte lipsticks. I have super, dry perpetually chapped lips so matte lipsticks have always been a big no for me. Actually bullet lipsticks in general, even soft mattes & creams unless I use a lipbalm underneath & a gloss on top. So my preference for lippies is a lip liner with gloss or tinted balm. I've considered trying this product but didn't know if it was just an overpriced lipbalm.
I've always wondered what this product was supposed to do but not enough to actually google it 🤣. I got one in a kit and it did nothing for me although was fine as a lip balm 🤷♀️. I hope Master S is feeling better and your car cleaned up okay 🥰
@@KitschSnitch yep my twins are only a few months older than your bub I get it 🤣 especially sucks when your also unwell 😞 I hope your all feeling better soon
I tried that too, and it didn't change much. The only thing it changed was my opinion that this would make a good lip balm... it settles too sticky and weird for me. Strange product haha
the claim for that primer must be towards dry and wrinkly lips. I tried it in a cold winter day with a matte lipstick and it was love at first sight: smooth lips, no smudges in the vertical wrinkles (with age happens a lot and I hate it!), no fade down in the corners...all jobs that a normal lip balm under a lipstick couldn't do. Maybe (or maybe not) in 20 years you could see the benefits, but for now your lips are too young and healthy for see the point of it!

I've been curious about this product for a while, but now I'm thinking I can probably live without it and just use a regular lip balm instead. I've noticed people with dry lips raving about it, though, so maybe it's something that Hailey might like if she hasn't tried it already.
Yeah I am not sure if it is something Hailey has tried, but I know she mainly uses really glossy hydrating lip products and she doesn't have issues with feathering, so I don't think it's something she really needs
I think you might be using it “wrong”. I think you are supposed to apply a really thin layer and wait for it to get tacky before putting on lipstick. I don’t know if it works any better that way though. Give it a try maybe?
I'm not a huge fan for prep and prime lip. It works better with liquid lipsticks for me. It is a very popular GWP here in Hong Kong so I always get them for free (I purchase A LOT from MAC lol). I'm a bit annoyed that I got so many of them but not really utilizing them. I try to give away them to friends whenever I know they are looking for a lip primer to try out lol.
I wish I got more gift with purchases from MAC haha. I would just use it as my daily lip balm and then when they are finished trade them in for a new lipstick with the back to MAC program haha

I’m glad it works with feathering like it claims! I couldn’t test feathering because I very rarely experience it, which I’m not complaining about haha

(pre watch post) I have wondered this for years! I want it to increase longevity. I don’t see how it can make that work and be hydrating both.
