  • A legend reborn? Will it out-perform the original where the night sky is concerned? We should all hope so, the OG wasn't actually that good 😅

Tracked samples were tracked using the Fornax Mounts LighTrack II. (Fervent Astronomy is Fornax's North American Distributor):

Vetting a lens for astrophotography can be a bit of a pain, as most reviews don't dive deep into lens performance when used on the night sky. As such, I have been compelled to create lens reviews specifically for astrophotographers, which dig into lens performance in somewhat exhaustive detail - all to uncover how the lens performs on the stars.

Me too! There’s one available near me, but the guy hasn’t replied back to my offer to trade for it, and I’m not keen on plunking down CAD$800 for it at the moment, lol. But mayhaps it’ll work out!

Using an Urth 67mm night filter with mine ..... an H-alpha filter of some kind would be a dream as the sony alpha clip-in is atm prohibitively expensive for me.

Can confirm that Kolari Vision has partnered with IDAS, but they don’t have a clip-in H-alpha available yet. That said, these filters are always going to be expensive, but definitely less expensive than a 67mm front filter would be.

@@FerventAstronomy I’d be very tempted if they could undercut Astronomik by a decent margin ! 👍✨🙂

I’m hopeful that they’ll launch the NBZ-II as a clip in, that’s probably the best bang for the buck if you’re after emission nebulae!

@@FerventAstronomy have a 2" L-Enhance for my Redcat..... would love a clip-in version of that or anything similar for my a7iv &a7iv(a) 🤔

The NBZ-II is basically the ticket, multi-narrowband all in one filter for colour sensors!

    Thanks for the review
This one goes into the wishlist, along the 14/1.4
A shame Sigma seem to not care about Nikon Z users…

You’re welcome, and in luck! First: I can say with 95% certainty that the main obstacle to Sigma lenses being launched natively for Z-mount is Nikon. They may not be as actively obstructive as Canon is, but they’re definitely not rolling with open-season for third party products. Given that they’re white-labelling some Tamron lenses this puts Tamron in a more privileged position and I’m sure they’ve negotiated more profitable licensing terms. And it isn’t just lenses, some of Nikon’s newer firmware blocks cameras from accepting third party batteries, for example.
That said, as a fellow Z-mount owner probably the best money I’ve spent was on a Megadap ETZ21. The thing turns any Sony E-mount lens into a fully-functional Z-mount lens. It’s shocking how good it performs. And just the other day I came across a similar adapter that can bring Fuji X-mount lenses to Nikon Z-mount APS-C cameras. So Z-mount has definitely become the new King of Adapting! So don’t wait, find one of those adapters and get out there!
