@MrScottyTay The ps2 didn't have a native resolution... Like with the PS1, every game has custom resolutions that would get stretched to full screen on your TV. So emulation is the only way to actually play these games at their actual native resolutions.

Wish it was at the top, symmetrical to the face buttons so it's more comfortable playing Twilight Princess, one of my favorite games of all time. I was thinking of an Odin 2 but it's screen isn't as good as the RPmini/RP5. Might have to just get a Steam Deck and be done with all of this lol

You nailed it with the "missing retro feeling" part... I personally thing they should have used the guts of this handheld - and the screen also, since the space is there - into the body of the rp2s, since being 4:3 is basically aimed at more retro system, while this new aesthetics looks fine for the 16:9 rp5, which is by nature more modern oriented. And afaik they actually discontinued the ro2s??? What a shame...
It's a fun and funny game. The PS2 version is a bit different from the PC original, but remains the same as well, if that makes any sense. Don't forget about Armed and Dangerous, a spiritual successor. Also on PC and XBox.

And I think RP2S is good for the first, and we'll see if the RP5 fit that bigger device I'm looking to get! Probably will try to get a 2S for Xmas. Thanks, TechDweeb and bye bye! ^^
RP2s is an amazing choice if you already have a Miyoo Mini. That'll cover you for higher end stuff and is a lot more comfy. If you're traveling with it a lot I recommend the retroid case. I have it and use it often :)
I love the RP Mini and the Rayneo AR glasses. It's awesome being able to play in bed or on plane with such a small device and play on the incredible big screen. It's handheld weight and power makes any screen complaints go away when using the glasses. And then when you need it on the go, it fits in your pocket. For me, I have no interest in the RP5, the RP Mini is amazing.
Looking forward to comparison vids between this and the 4 pro...on paper they are very similar in terms of SoC, just down to if the Adreno gpu gives the 5 any kind of advantage with certain emulators?
You should show case home alone from sega genesis in one of your videos. One of my favorites as a kid. I got excited to see battle toads in this video.
I'm with you on this one. The extra power for GameCube and PS2 is nice, but I really dislike the all glass front aesthetics of the new Retroid and AYN devices. They're just not visually appealing (to me at least) and don't look like retro gaming devices anymore.
A glass front also means you'll always be wary about it breaking and cracking. Plus there's the issue of light glare from it in bright sunlight. Also, inevitably you will end up constantly having to wipe off fingerprints and smears. There's pretty much no worse material than glass, when it comes to greasy smear marks. I'd have much preferred them to just use a slightly textured plain plastic, rather than glass.
I got the Orange/Gray Mini and I'm one of the weirdos who actually likes it. It's unique. But I do wish we would have gotten a proper Famicom color scheme with the red and beige white.
i wonder if retroid is going to make an actual 2s successor with a lower res 4'' screen, retro looks and a d900 processor or something. i think that would make a TON of people happy edit: because retroid has specifically said the mini is not suppose to be a successor to the 2s. im not sure i really believe that but if it's true then i love the idea of a new 2s and obviously a flip

The rp3 and 3+ also have button problems where the L and R1 just stop being clicky and if you even slightly touch them they send a signal making ps1/2 completely unplayable on it, it happened on mine now I only use it for psp because the triggers work fine still
For me on the goretroid store there are 2 colorways, Saturn and 16bit, that look pretty retro to me. Other folks mileage may vary of course, but they remind me enough of my old SNES stuff.
I changed my preorder from 16bit grey to black just because I wanted the screen to blend into the device. I mostly play at night in the dark and it looks amazing
regarding the GBA example, what interpolation shader you actually prefer and how does it feel compared to a color-lcd_grid one, like the slangp bundled "lcd-grid-v2-gba-color" ?
How do you feel when you play PSP 16:9 games with letterbox? I've always feel weird when I play like that with IPS display because of backlight, but I guess it will be okay with OLED display. Please let me know your experience.
MUCH better with an OLED display, but it's just too small for me to enjoy personally. You can do it, but if you play any text heavy games you'll probably feel the same way. Fine for certain types of games though. Racing games are fine FWIW.
Someone finally said what I felt. I wouldn't change my clear rp4p for a 5 mainly cause of the looks. It's a beautiful console, but looks made by ayn, not retroid. I hope we get something from them that looks actually nostalgic.
The mini has become my absolute favorite GBA device. I have the SFC color, and it is great for so many systems. But the bezels just disappear on GBA and the colors pop how it feels like they always should have
This or the RG Cube? What do you prefer? Been thinking of getting the RG Cube, for the smooth GameCube gameplay, but now I see this. Which one plays PS2 better?
i love my one but they didn't place the screen quite right on mine so there is a very very thin line that is just black i don't mind it but retroid really needs to step up they're quality control
I really wanted this when I first seen it, way more than the RP5. But now that Anbernic came out with the XX cube, I think I want that instead and then pair it with the RP5. To upgrade my current Miyoo mini + RP3 + combo
i LOVE MY MINI! But I agree on the design. I bought the RP2S for my kid, who played it all year . I went to buy me an Indigo one recently and got the 3grRam model. I decided to also order the pocket mini. the 2s design is amazing in the sense it invites you to play. design over function for sure BUT it looks great. The pocket mini is almost boring/modern BUT color schemes kinda save it., Not as horrifically boring as the Ayaneo Pocket S haha
Hey Tech dweeb. Could you please 🥺. Make videos on building emulator PCs again. Or older laptops with 4-6gen CPUs. I loved your older videos on this topic. Playing vintage/ new games. Or other applications.😊 As always love your videos
Looks like face buttons are more silent on rp5, so I am buying that. I would like to have a 4:3 screen, but I don't see myself playing mini that much without being kicked for loud button mashing 😅
I bought the RP Flip right before getting the mini and there's been times going out where I'm like,"hmmm clamshell would be safer for going out. Going to grab the flip" and kinda wish they made a RP Mini flip.
i'm running yuzu on my snapdragon 888 powered z fold 3 and it runs many games fine. and that's only 5-30% faster than the 865. I'm curious as to whether wii, wii u, and switch could be run too (though I wouldn't run 9:16 games on it. Problem with all these units is that they generally ALL pale in comparison to my Z Fold 3 with a Gamesir x2s. You can buy the combo for $380. Or you could downgrade to a refurb S21 and Gamesir with an 888 processor for the same $200+the gamesir and have, in my opinion, a better gaming experience and a phone/camera, etc. to boot.
I agree the RP Mini feels less retro but honestly the fact you have an all black does make it a bit soulless. I have the SFC and it does feel retro to me. I saw on reddit someone put red SFC buttons in an all grey shell. Looks like a proper DMG edition
Just curious if you there is a hub you can get for this that has a another USBC port so you can output to tv and add a gamehub (hub storage with games) to play your games off and still output to TV?

The mini has become my absolute favorite GBA device. I have the SFC color, and it is great for so many systems. But the bezels just disappear on GBA and the colors pop how it feels like they always should have
You should try adding the GBA SP Overlay to complete the look! (easy to find if you google it)
Amazing handheld!
This or the RG Cube? What do you prefer?
Been thinking of getting the RG Cube, for the smooth GameCube gameplay, but now I see this. Which one plays PS2 better?
This is a much more powerful device than the Cube, so in terms of performance alone this is the winner.
Muito bom review. Seu vídeos são muitos bons ❤
Feel better soon, dude, I could hear the strain on your voice as you kept going.
Haha thanks. I needed a nap after recording that :P
I’d legit only want the PS2 for KH and FF games. THPS, GTA, etc would be icing on top
I might need to buy it just for the dinosaur sticker.
i love my one but they didn't place the screen quite right on mine so there is a very very thin line that is just black i don't mind it but retroid really needs to step up they're quality control
That got deep fast
I really wanted this when I first seen it, way more than the RP5. But now that Anbernic came out with the XX cube, I think I want that instead and then pair it with the RP5. To upgrade my current Miyoo mini + RP3 + combo
i LOVE MY MINI! But I agree on the design. I bought the RP2S for my kid, who played it all year . I went to buy me an Indigo one recently and got the 3grRam model. I decided to also order the pocket mini. the 2s design is amazing in the sense it invites you to play. design over function for sure BUT it looks great. The pocket mini is almost boring/modern BUT color schemes kinda save it., Not as horrifically boring as the Ayaneo Pocket S haha
feel better,,,ty :)
BEST OPENING RAMBLE EVER; and yeah, it’s always the girls!!
I'm assuming that with only one USB port, you can't use it on a TV and charge it at the same time?
Soulless. Great description. That's why this unit is not in my collection.
Your voice sounded much better in this episode. You should be sick all the time ! 😋😅
It's not a Retroid, it's a Moderntroid
👏
Hey I know you! You sound like Techdweeb's cooler older brother!
Girls never want to fondle my handhelds... I may need a TH-cam channel!
Just curious if you there is a hub you can get for this that has a another USBC port so you can output to tv and add a gamehub (hub storage with games) to play your games off and still output to TV?
get well TD
You know, I've never seen Russ and Dweeb in the same room 🤔
