I got hooked on Dr. Abramson's Jewish History Lab. Absolutely amazing and crystal clear. In my old age, I am learning so much about the Bible and Torah. Thank you, Sir.

Fascinating. I am not Jewish - I was raised as a Catholic - but this all makes sense. It is clear, succinct and really, really interesting. Toda raba! As I write - best wishes for Channukah.

Thank you so much Dr. Ambramson! Your biased veiw is not only amazing, its biased in truth to the best extent you can and it blows me away! And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free! The more truth that is shown from above the more opertunities for people to make it out of the dark! Praise Hashem!

Gentile watching from Melbourne 🇦🇺. My husband and I started doing Sabbath 2 years ago (because when you read the scripture, the Roman Catholics got it wrong, the Sabbath was never done away with, Yeshua and his disciples all did Sabbath). It has been a blessing in so many way. Sending love and respect to all Jews everywhere, because Yeshua is Jewish 🇮🇱✝️🌷

As always, interesting and engaging. Slowly making my way through the series. One detail - the Bet Alpha synagogue mural displayed towards the end of the video shows the Akedat Yitzchak. Bet Alpha is near Beit Shean; no connection with Dura Europos.

I follow your teachings as much as possible. Appreciate them. One question, is the piece of the mosaic the known as "Binding of Isaac"? The best wishes

    Hello Dr.,
Can you talk a little about the origins of holidays and shabbat. When did israelites first start keeping shabbat, and is there any relation to the babylonian day Shabbatu? What about passover, rosh hashanah, and when they were first celebrated. Also, what were the differences in the customs, holidays, and calendars between the northern kingdom of israel and the southern kingdom of judah? I had heard the northern kingdoms new year was the passover, and the southern kingdoms new year was rosh hashanah, like it is today. Lastly, the calendars of these kingdoms appear to have been different. The modern jewish calendar is based on the babylonian calendar, but in the earlier iron age, the israelites seem to have had a different calendar, some of the months being alluded to in Torah.

What did Jews in the first temple period do on Shabbat if there were no synagogues?

Really liked the overview of Jewish belief, but in the book I would recommend putting in more distinction of what was practiced in ancient Israel/ biblical times. For example, if I am correct. bar and bar mitzvah started becoming practiced much later during the Middle Ages.

    Love all your lectures.
I was wondering if ritual life was so different for both sexes if there are records of how life would be for non binary or transpeople in that time.

I am not aware of any ancient Hebrew sources written from non-cis perspectives, but the issue is discussed with some frequency in the Rabbinic literature.

Not all Jews follow the Oral Torah. That should have been mentioned.
