The message this game gives is that there’s no happy endings in crime. There’s no getting out. ‘Family is forever’ gives me goosebumps just thinking about it

I'm sure most like to compare it as inferior to the message in the original "I guy who wants much from life risks losing absolutely everything. Of course a guy who wants little from life, might not get anything at all." But really, I like to think that despite being the same game and story, both have sort of their own take and they stick to them. I like both endings for different reasons.
Even though Vito wasn’t in the original mafia game it’s still crazy that he’s now in all 3 mafia games
He was in the original mafia game too, obviously it was voiced by a different person but he was there.

Honestly I don’t really like that he appears in all the games. Like it’s getting to the point where it seems a bit suspicious. It kinda feels like he’s put in just to drive up excitement. Not to say I don’t like seeing him, but a game doesn’t need to have Vito around to make it good & exciting. If he’s somehow in the next mafia game, then that would definitely confirm my thoughts.

In the Yakuza series there's a character in the fourth game who "appears" in the ending of the first game like Vito did in Mafia 1 (as in he wasn't a character yet and the character was retconned to be him).
Years later they remake the first game but use the same character model as they did in the first game, even though the other character had already appeared. In the same engine, even.

Love how they improved the ending, rather than a somewhat shook "Y..yess." they give him a stoic "YES" like he knew it was just a matter of time.

No way he wouldn't be shocked hearing that name after all those years of peaceful anonymous retirement and turning around to see a shotgun staring at him. He must have been thinking he managed to successfully leave the mob at that point.
They made it capeshit-friendly for the zoomer demographic.
AFGuidesHD one of the “few” good changes, this is one of the best remakes of all time, up there with RE2.
@@Avengerie Tommy knew he was on borrowed time, but just enough time to bring up his family and fullfill his duties as a father. Hearing those words just meant that his time has run out and he accepts his fate and consequences of his decisions

yoooooo i was literally thinking this right when paulie said meet me in my apartment in the morning to split the cash. it kinda annoyed me how predictable it was but damn, what a plot twist.
@@_terrorbilly You had to drive to his apartment to pick up the cash which would get most people suspecting that something was gonna happen once he got there. And in their last cutscene together Paulie has to reassure him that he’ll split the money.

I really like how they remade the scene to include Vito and Joe, and instead of being shocked Tommy knew what was happening.
The remake has a few smaller changes too but yes that last scene is the biggest change

Never played mafia 1 back in the day, but after playing this it’s one my favorite games this year. They’ve knocked it out of the park with this one, especially as a remake.

My only complaint is you have no free will in this game, I can never go out and explore while playing. As soon as you finish a mission you’re on to the next straight away. It gets a bit annoying after a while because I just wanna do something fun.
@@LTD538 that's what these games are made for, to be linear action and story packed games, not to be open world games like GTA or RPGs like Witcher, look how mafia 3 turned up after trying to copy the GTA formula

The dialogue I’m the ending was a rough. Paulies speech and the end sounded like voice actor didn’t want to be there.
The Mafia II music at 8:06 when Vito and Joe arrive gives me so much chills.

Most people don't realize the monologue at the ending isn't Tommy's dying words. His words are only "You are safe now".

everyone talks about how Tommy was prepared and not afraid of dying. But 2:41 I really liked how the mention of Paulie was the trigger for Tommy. And also I liked how he made three shots: one for Paulie, one for Frank, and one probably for that woman from a motel

@Jakbaj Vito === Tommy. No point to compare them, they had similar stories and both of them are excellent. Also Tommy was a rat unlike Vito. He kinda deserved or atleast he should'll know what will happen.

He didn't want to do it, but the way he saw it the Don was killing Tommy not him. The moment where Sam says "It's a shame too", you can hear the regret in his voice. This scene and Tommy's acceptance of his own death in the final moments of the game, where he knows this is exactly what he wanted. Being able to see his family go on and grow old with Sarah. The look in his eyes as Joe points the gun at him says more about Tommy than any words could. Not to mention the scene where Tommy's cut of the bank is falling through the air. The money feels worthless, only perpetuation what he had said about Morrello and his wealth. Truely one of my favorite games this gen and a fantastic remake

This is a way better ending than the original. Instead of being surprised, Tommy knew that one day his past will catch up to him and it did. The moment he heard his real name, he accepted he dropped the hose and accepted his death. After being shot, he assured his family that now that Salieri got his revenge, they are finally safe. Back in the day, the Mafia generally went only after the culprit and not after the family. Same here: in order for Sarah and her children to be safe, Tommy had to die.
Great ending, really emotionally charged.

Vito and Joe were amazing, prodiminantly because the character build up between the two were excellent done throughout the game up until the end.
Where as with Tommy, there wasn't much of a build up to connect with Paulie, Sam and Salieri or any others.
The only character build up that was present, was when Paulie spoke his heart out with Tommy.

Instead of saying uhh..yes? He said yes. He accepted what was about to happen and I think in a way a little relieved knowing that his wife and kids were now safe from the threat of the mafia.
I also liked the fact that his family was by his side in the remake instead of being alone like he was in the original

Sam's betrayal fucking hurts because he's so grateful to Tommy and even one time asked him not to kill his girlfriend. Then when Tommy and Paulie did a robbery and Tommy did what he asked, he immediately snitched them out to Salieri.

In another world, in another timeline, outside of Tommy Angelo's house there were snipers and cops 24/7; and the moment they saw with their scope how Joe Barbaro carried a shotgun, he got gunned down before he could even walk up to him, and Vito followed him shortly after.

Paulie brought so much emotion with him he didn't deserve to die, as i played i grew to look at Paulie sam and tonny as a trio of best buds who could never back stab each other.

It's really not deeper. The importance of family is such a banality, anyone can tell you that it's the most important thing. The original Mafia's message was that the free and exciting lifestyle has a price.
Mafia almost never goes after uninvolved family members, so it was never really in danger.

I swear I always get the chills when Vito steps out of that red car and hearing the mafia 2 theme hits me hard because these games are so good and seeing two characters from different eras just makes it so legendary.
Tommy knew what was coming to him later, which was why he just said YES not adding a y-yes to it. Very chilling ending.
I appreciate the fact that Tommy was able to keep his hair slicked back in prison

Really turned dark especially in the contexts of this entire story.
I played all the games, even the original.
I'm fine with this ending, but I wish they had kept the "Y-yes?" Tommy said originally.
Use the new Definitive voice actor, but keep the original delivery, not the stoic, accepting "Yes." Even the most hardened criminal will be caught off-guard during the day he knew was coming.
Tommy's final words and that hesitant "Y-yes?" before getting shot was so iconic to me. That's the exact tone and memory that stuck and they should have kept it. Nonetheless, I love this game. Glad they remade this scene, glad they remade this wonderful game, sad they re-made that iconic line.
I think it's better than the original only because being older now myself (tongue in cheek), it does seem more fitting. Tommy knew he couldn't get away from it forever

I have issues with some of the levels changed in this game but everything around tommys family, which includes this ending, is huge improvments. This ending was good

I perfer how Tommy dies in the remake, when he heard Vito call his name instead of being confused then shocked like in the original...he knew exactly why they were there
He couldn’t take it anymore... he knew his time had finally come when Vito said is real name, he was relieved that he didn’t have to look over his shoulder anymore...after he dies his family would be completely safe, those were literally his dying words...he was so glad that Sarah and his kids are finally 100% safe from the Mafia
Tommy was finally free
If you think about it, it doesn't make much sense. He had successfully left the mob at that point, a lot of time has passed and the guys could have been his Witness Protection Program handlers. He hears the name he hasn't heard in a long time, he's shocked, but still hopeful (it's human nature). "Maybe it's an old acquaintance who recognized me?" He slowly turns around to find himself staring down the barrel of a shotgun. Heart sinks into his boots, his limbs go numb, he's petrified. "But I was supposed to help the neighbor with his garage lights. This can't be..." And then it hits him: "This is it".
Nobody could have maintained stoic poker face in this situation.
And mafia almost never goes after innocent family members, rat or not. They might have used them to track him down, or they might have been harmed if the killers chose to go the car bomb route, but they were never really a target, so that whole inner motivation falls apart too.
Avengerie, Tommy has been running from the Mafia for years and even though Norman gave him and his family new identities even he said they can’t protect him forever so he had to constantly look over his shoulder and hope that the Salieri family doesn’t take revenge on him
And the only people who knows Tommy’s real name are his family and the members of the Salieri crime family back in Lost Heaven.
So after hearing his real name from somebody in Empire Bay (Vito) after not being called Angelo in over 15 years, he knew exactly why they were there because again, no one knows his real name in Empire Bay since he lived in Lost Heaven his entire life
Tommy even gave a light smirk right when he was about to be killed because he was relieved, he didn’t have to look over his shoulder anymore he didn’t have to look underneath his car to check if their was a car bomb and better yet his family was finally completely safe from the Mafia
Even if they don’t target or want to kill his family, the Mafia would still hassle, threaten, and might even resort to torture or kidnapping his family just to get to him, Tommy easily avoided all of that by sacrificing himself for his family.
@@twinswords79dualblade84 exactly. I'm italian, mafia works in terrible ways. They Will Kill and torture your sons, parents, Wife, cousins, whoever you love Just to teach you the lesson. The only way you have to stop them Is to die. Tommy death Is sad, but he's sorrounded by his family, he lived a Life way longer that he could hope, and he has no regrets After playing for his crimes. His family is safe. Everyone would die pacefully knowing that.

i wish they didnt spoil in the flash forwards that salieri and sam were going to be after tommy, it would have been so more shocking to see paulie dead, I KNEW he was dead as i approached his apartment because it spoiled that salieri would be after tommy, and him finding out about the bank heist would be a reason why. Whats worse is when sam called, I knew he killed paulie and tommy was going to a trap because it ALSO spoiled it

This is both the best and worst part about the remake for me
I absolutely loved how they added footage of tommy as an older man and Sarah aswell and we even got to see their children at last... I loved the final monologue about how family is Forever
My only real problem is that "somewhat happy ending" i mean yeah he does but compared to the old version this one is a bit more positive in a way... Instead of dying instantly like in the old one
