- "Did you ever notice in the 'Kung Fu Panda' movie that Tai Lung never actually dreamed of becoming the Dragon Warrior? Shifu found Tai Lung as a cub at his doorstep. He cared for him as his own son, and Tai Lung saw him as a father figure. When Shifu recognized his talent in kung fu, he began training him, constantly telling him he was destined for greatness. Tai Lung was the first student to master thousands of kung fu moves. When Shifu thought Tai Lung was ready to become the Dragon Warrior, he shared his thoughts with Master Oogway. However, Oogway disagreed. Tai Lung, who had worked his whole life for this, expected at least some support from his master, Shifu, during the shock of Oogway's refusal. But Shifu did nothing. Having always obeyed his master, Tai Lung found himself utterly alone. To Tai Lung, obtaining the scroll would fulfill the destiny Shifu had described to him. Thus, the Dragon Scroll, which he initially didn't care about, became his main focus. In reality, all he wanted was to make his father figure, his master, proud."

I can't see any person in any age who doesn't feel a little sorry for him.
@@ThunderStrikeEdits true, I think the only villain we hated as kids was Shen...
I honestly think Tai Lung as the villain is partially what made this movie so good. He wasn’t born evil, he was made evil by the good guys. It’s an interesting dynamic in a “kids movie”
Just like Darth Vader
That's mostly what I hate about most heroes because half the time they look at villains and act as if they're so much better when in reality half the time they are the ones who create them
That's so true. It's very rare you see a villain who's evil because they were genuinely wronged by the good guys. And it's even more rare to find a villain who was never evil to begin with. They're simply misunderstood. Zuko from ATLA is a perfect example
Honestly, not really. You get a sense of it early on when he rips Shifu's whiskers out as a child. But it comes back again later when you hear that Oogway "saw darkness in him."
He displayed a pattern of behavior that indicated some kind of will to destruction, for someone with eyes to see it. He learned power, but not compassion or wisdom. This culminated in his rampage across the valley.
That doesn't just come out of nowhere. There was a buildup of character that happened behind the scenes, a growth of personal darkness, just a bit under the surface. So that when he was refused, he didn't pause.
He didn't seek an audience with Oogway, he didn't try to understand his decision, he didn't try to convince him otherwise or discern what he still needed to become worthy.
He laid waste to the valley. A valley of innocents who did him no wrong.
And in the end, we see it one final time. When Shifu tells him he has always been proud of him, and apologized for his pride blinding him. Tai Lung stops. It gives him pause. Right then, he saw the way back. He didn't have to do this. It was right there before him.
And he turned his back, *choosing* the darkness over the father figure he had always had before him. As he did before.
The final message of the movie (and why this granted Shifu inner peace) is that it was *not* his fault that Tai Lung turned bad. He made mistakes, but Tai Lung chose this. His fate, in the end (as with all of ours) was his own.
Are these good guys really good though ? Or just puppets of the dragon warrior system created by Ugwei ?

This is the main thing I want people to understand. Tai Lung was NOT greedy, he was NOT overly ambitious, he was NOT evil first. Imagine your only loving parental figure raises you and nurtures you for years and constantly tells you you're meant for something, or its your destiny to be something. Over and over and you dedicate your life and progression to making them proud and achieving what you thought was your destiny, just to be denied it and rejected in the end. Years wasted, all that training, all that work, all that desire to make your parent proud, all those times they told you "this is what you were born for," down the drain and dismissed.
The wasted effort is the only explanation I accept.
Leaving that aside, why are you all acting as if the turtle was the father?
@@asmyself4021 Funny enough, people defend Tai Lung just because he tried...lol. They completely overlook that after got rejected, he literally attack the valley, beat up his own father (Shifu) and tried to steal the scroll. People are acting like Tai Lung is the victim lmao:)))

also way to miss the point. its not that tai lung "tried", its the fact that he didnt have a choice in his life, ever. from the moment he was a toddler he was groomed by his father figure and was never able to chose his own dreams. waste roughly 20 years of your life trying to please someone else only for them to abandon you and lets see how you feel
lastly, everything shifu and oogway put him through came BEFORE the attack on the valley, so whats your point? that he retroactively deserved it? lol
@@mila2394
Firstly you said that that Shifu forced Tai Lung to train and that is completely false. Tai Lung is the one who got interested in it and started to trained. Shifu originally didn't even want to teach Tai Lung but after seeing Tai Lung talent he decided to train him.
Secondly, Tai Lung didn't have a choice? That is also completely wrong aswell. Tai Lung have NEVER mentioned that Shifu forced him to trained. All he did was encourage him to Kung Fu and "fill his head with dream". If Tai Lung like something else than Shifu wouldn't stop him either.
Thirdly, wasting 20 year of your life to pleased someone else dream is NOT a reason to beat your father and destroy a innocent village. For example, nowaday many Asian Student have to pleased their parent dream by going to Harvard, MIT, Oxford etc... And funny enough, when they failed to do so? Did they beat up their parent, attack the school council and destroyed the neighbourhood? So do you notice the difference here?
Tai Lung will be a great, sympathetic character if he didn't do any of those shits. Your story doesn't speak how you are, but action does. And Tai Lung action is his own very choice. There are still plenty of chance for him to pursue Kung Fu beside getting the Dragon Warrior title.
In short, Tai Lung DESERVED it. That was his action, he was the one who did it, no one else but him. He had to pay for his wrong doing. "Action" speak the loudest.
If you are saying that destroying the village just because you were devasted is a good reason then we are not on the same page here lol.

This is why you should never put heavy expectation onto a child. All he had to do was just raised Tai Lung and allow him to be a child.
He did not have to put all of these dreams into Tai Lung's head. It's like he was so obsessed with finding the Dragon Warrior that he forgot about the greatest thing that was in front of him: family
I was listening to a priest on TH-cam one time and he said that it’s good to have expectations but you have to put them in the right way because sometimes expectations can be a killer of joy. When l heard that I felt that deeply so deep in fact my anxiety felt its existence being threatened
Man, poor Tai Lung. And even after he opened the scroll for himself, he found out it was nothing. No wonder he snapped at the end
Tai Lung wasn’t necessarily an evil guy, he just wasn’t the main character.
I relate to tai lung so heavily. All I ever wanted to hear from my ex was “I’m proud of you”. I gave up my entire identity at the time for her. And in return , I almost lost everything. I can totally relate to tail lung.
Sounds very different, Tai Lung was raised to have those expectations, you seem to have just been a schmuck
"Villains are not born they are made" he is one of the perfect example
I'm annoyed Shifu didn't clear it up with Oogway before bringing in Tai Lung to be turned down like that
Oogway really despised Tai Lung
This doesn't excuse Tai Lung's actions but it does explain them. Shifu not supporting him was the ultimate betrayal to Tai Lung, he was hurt, and pain leads to anger. He externalized his anger in the worst way though, by taking it out on others, both the innocent people of the valley and Shifu and Oogway. He was left to simmer in his fury for 20 years, unable to talk to anyone, the hurt and betrayal never going away.
So does Shifu's actions. He groomed Tai Lung and tortured him in the end. He was responsible for Tai Lung.
Baby tai lung was so cute
Oogway didn't give dragon scroll to him because oogway knew there is nothing in it
Yep, all people here give blame to the "heroes of the story" forgetting that their only fault was praising him too much.
Oogway denied him because he saw darkness in him, and trust created that darkness. In a way he kinda creates the fate he wishes to avoid too
If you think about it it’s similar for shen because his father promised him the throne. And shen did litteraly anything to make his parents proud. But went to far getting his future ripped from him.

True but that wasnt the issue. His parents sent to the Soothsayer after they saw Shen was finding the darkness in fireworks.
The Soothsayer gave them a prophecy that if Shen continued down his dark path, he would be defeated by a warrior of black and white.
Shen desired to kill all of the pandas as a result. However, this means that he did it so he could continue down his dark path. He saw that removing the pandas would allow him to remain evil without risk lf being defeated. His parents saw this too and banished him as a result. ‘Tell me how proud u are shifu’ as kids we hated him but as adults we understand his pain
He wasn’t the bad guy he just wasn’t the main character
True❤
He was definitely the bad guy
He just wanted shifu to fight for him instead he shrugged his shoulders and basically said your life’s work was worthless
He wanted something that was never gonna happen in that situation. It's an unrealistic expectation.
He only did it a lil for tigress cuz he thought it was oogways intention to select her and po just gell in the way. There was no such confusion with Tai Lung.
He basically shrugged and said it wasn't meant to be. Tai lung took it as everything he did was now worthless
Basically Shifu goes from one kind of bad parenting with Tai Lung, (building him up as being destined for greatness and being over attentive to him, only to not support him when he needed him most) to a more blatant kind of bad parenting with Po, which is to emotionally/physically abuse him into quitting. It’s only when Shifu realised that it was his fault that he made Tai Lung what he is because of his smothering pride. And also when he learns Po genuinely wants to be someone other than himself so he’s willing to go through all through Shifu’s abuse so he can amount to something, that Shifu decides to do right this time and actually trains and bonds with Po.
For people that don’t get it, look it like this:
Imagine being someone with no purpose, but then are given one by someone. You train your whole life to meet that purpose that was given to you and when it’s time to actually fulfill that purpose, some other old man tells the person that gave you that purpose “nah” without an explanation and worst of all? the same person that gave you that purpose doesn’t do a thing.
In some ways, Shifu is just as bad as if not worse than the parents who abandoned Tai
Handling rejection was his last test, which he failed...
All Tai Lung wanted was to make His master proud
I just realised if you pay attention tai lungs reaction wasnt that bad when oogway said, his reaction went bad when his master didnt support him, such a dmall detail i never would noticed before
The scene where he was beating up on Shifu and saying.
*All I ever did, I did to make you proud. Tell me how proud you are Shifu?*
Then when Shifu said *I've always been proud. And it was my pride that blinded me. I loved you too much to see what you where becoming. What I was turning you into. I am sorry*.
That moment brought tears to my eyes. Especially when Tai Lung stood there for a moment, having a moment of regret and sadness in his eyes.
You know someone pointed out that maybe the reason why Tai Lung wasn’t fit for the role of dragon warrior was maybe because Oogway wanted to see how Tai Lung would react to being denied the dragon scroll? Maybe it could have been the test to see if Tai Lung would act mature about it
It was empty anyway...
"All i ever did, i did to make you proud!!!"

The fact that Tai Lung gotten passed over as Dragon Warrior not once (KFP1) but TWICE (KFP4) is an utter and absolutely unforgivable crime
Villain ❌ Broken Hero ✅
I love how in the part 4 Tai lung appreciated and embraced Po as the dragon warrior 💕🫂
Everyone have their own stories, in those stories, they are the HERO...
