  • ‪@ICON3DTech‬, the largest 3D printer contractor, is finishing up its genesis collection at wolf ranch in Georgetown Texas. The 100 home community serves as the first and largest 3D printed community project. In collaboration with the second largest home builder, Lennar, the project aims to show off the capability of 3D printed construction and possibilities it brings for the future.
Is 3D Printing construction the future? Can it solve the problems causing the housing crisis we face today?
We answer these questions and more using ICON’s 100 3D Printed Home Project at Wolf Ranch as the case study.

How soon do you think 3D construction will become mainstream?

Icon is probably charging leonard the same as normal framing, but they do more in the walls than traditional framing such as built-in conduits and other things that save time down the chain. However, I doubt icon is profitable on the homes yet. Maybe on the last few where they got the time down to about 2 weeks with their latest computer.
Since the tech is so new, they have a lot of places to still find cost savings.

Building (or rather printing) a city will have been faster than before when these huge printers are built on a very large scale 😊

Agreed. A Modular machine will be the key, with the ability to increase and decrease size limitations.
