    When the print head didn't Z-hop during the non-print move @1:13, I nearly had a heart attack because that's the leading cause of print failures in my farm.

      @Dayne Littlewood Sure Dayne, and how many building sites have you worked on? So this machine will operate in freezing to tropical environments, steep slopes, muddy and boggy sites. Has self set up capability, self cleaning, maintenance. It's a refined version of a concrete pump, with 10 times the moving parts. If it's going to go and play on a building sites... time after time after time, it probably needs to be more resilient.
      I've seen some truly great innovations of tech and useful products introduced into the building game through the years. The trash heap though is way higher than the treasure heap.....
      Yet I spose, research and development is an important part. It doesn't matter if there is a viable outcome, or not. It keeps people employed and off the streets.
      And I just love all these 3D videos claiming houses built in days, hours, since when are just the walls a home?

    Wow, all you haters, hating so much. This is a great technology and I'm sure it can be made to be as strong, probably stronger than any existing building technologies. This type of technology IS the future, like it or not.

    That's a pretty thin wall with no internal lettuce. They are getting very very good with the concrete mixture and printing process for this not to fall or slump over! I just love innovation! Fill those walls with some foam crete and that could be a carbon-negative house. feeding energy back to the gride that it's creating but not using itself.

    Very impressive. You gotta admit though: The "traditional" approach is 8 guys working with no modern construction equipment at all, you can pour concrete directly from the truck at high speeds and you can get a decent crane in order to have all the bricks where you need them... You did pick an extreme case here ;)

      However, I am looking for solutions. I came from Romania to Atlanta, GA, and doing some research in construction and real estate field, including 3D printed homes. I think there are solutions but all developers are only pioneering yet in this field.

      +altaroffire56 Is not that simple... we need to introduce rebars there, many of reinforced bars as calculated by the structure engineer...

    • @sufferingtill18
      @sufferingtill18 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For structural integrity, most 3d printed homes I've seen include: the outer wall; the inner wall; and a wave form between them, connecting the two outer shells, and providing lateral strength. Empty spaces between forms usually filled with PU foam insulation or structural PUSS foam. The foam is usually emplaced after utilities are installed, and before the top of the concrete form is capped. I've also seen some constructions that include a waterproofing layer placed on the form exterior, as an added protective measure in high rainfall/humidity areas.

      +artie ny83 plus, once it becomes more common, the printer would cost less than 3000$ to build (for a 98ftx18ftx38ft or ~30mx6mx10m) , and you borrow the print head, control, and motor assembly for maybe another 1000-2000$ , add 1000-2000$ of concrete and 1000-1500$ of reinforcement steel, and you have a home for less than 10k$ in a few years.

    • @michaelg4931
      @michaelg4931 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I highly doubt your cost estimate for the print assembly. As it stands, from the website of the creator of this particular machine, the basic model is $300,000.

    The 3D concrete tehnology is at beginning ! At the moment it can be built very limited type of houses, like shelters for non seismic areas. There is a computerized concrete cast without bar reinforcement, so a real house, with a foundation and using reinforcement bars, cannot be built at this moment with this tehnology.

    • @Clean97gti
      @Clean97gti 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This isn't true anymore. I spoke to one of the people demoing a unit at a tradeshow here in Las Vegas and he said rebar reinforcing works almost the same way it does in normal homes.
      You build your slab and have your steel coming up. At various points during the print, you stop it, place your steel where it is needed and tie it in. Then resume the print.
      And, because walls are printed, you insert reinforcing ties all over the place to tie walls together. Really, the biggest thing lagging is permitting and appropriate testing for building codes.

  • @jimmytiler5522
    @jimmytiler5522 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It would be so easy for those in this business to simply be able to supply a funnel with potable concrete and to push said funnel along rollers to guide it reducing the need to be computerized but just gently by human power keep the funnel supplied with concrete and follow the outline of the house and raising with each pass till you've reached the height one wished all the while another funnel building interior walls. We should call it the "funnel method" of building sturdy homes.

    interesting and great technology but I suggest you either remove the "Comparison" near the end, OR add a construction TIME for the manual labor house like you did for the 3D printed house. It is extremely bad communication when you use the world's OLDEST technology (people carrying buckets of concrete) to show how great your new technology is. It gives the impression that your technology may be better than "BUCKETS" but could not compare to standard PUMPED concrete or SHOT-CRETE. (spray concrete).
    I think your cool looking setup would have a hard time beating Shot Crete.

      This is what a real concrete form looks like www.cfemn.com/images/steelply2.jpg Bit of a difference between that, and anything I saw in that video. People who like 3D printed concrete usually don't know the first thing about concrete work themselves.

    The only thing wrong with the "traditional construction methods" is their lack of epic music.

    Андрей, приветствую! Отличное дело, но смущает, то что конструкция выглядит не очень надёжно, при нагрузке перпендикулярно стене. Рассматривали ли вы вариант с структурным (возможно оптимально сотовым) заполнением пространства между стенами? Судя по всему сама головка вашего аппарата может выдать короткие порции раствора.

    We all know that this day was coming that 3D Printing will replace a lot of men/women in construction, just as electric cars will put a lot of automotive technicians out of jobs. Do not blame technology people just must prepare for it, the warning signs are around many and they just wish not act upon them.
