  • In this presentation, you'll learn why insulin resistance is the root cause of obesity and type 2 diabetes. More importantly, you'll learn how you can reverse this condition with simple and effective lifestyle changes.
    Note: Reshape Physical Therapy and Wellness evolved into Weight Loss for Health, and finally Zivli. How to Lose Weight After 50 was our first course that eventually grew into Zivli. Some old blog posts or resources mentioned in this episode may have been removed.

      @ladyleaner Thanks for the positive feedback. I find that eating enough protein really helps with the carb cravings, especially if the protein is from whole food sources like eggs, meat, or unsweetened dairy. I also think staying hydrated, and reducing all sweeteners...even natural or the healthy sugar substitutes, has helped me control sugar cravings.

      Great info - hope more people start to listen. Listening and doing some work. I normally eat OMAD and definitely exercise everyday. I think time restricted eating is the way to go for most people. That really helps to cut out eating to frequently and snacking on processed or fast foods. Not a big fan fan on most fruit either. (except berries, lemons + limes)

    Excellent talk on all areas of diet, obesity and insulin resistance. I’ve tried many diets and after so much frustration I’ve found the low carb, healthy fat and moderate protein style of diet works well for me. Once you ditch the sugar and processed carbs the craving just goes away, makes healthy choices easier. I’ve lost 27lbs and now within 6 pounds of “normal” BMI. My fasting glucose is normally under 80-105 and have cut back on my BP med because my BP was actually getting too low….soon I’ll be off it entirely. I do intermittent fasting, so a short window of eating each day to heal my body and give it rest. I walk 30-60 min, Do weights and HIIT 3xs a week for each. I will always eat this way. I don’t discuss my diet with my doctor, just look at all the evidence for healing. Drs seem to encourage a higher amount of carbs than I feel is healthy for me. I also will never take a statin for cholesterol but mine is in an acceptable range with 51 HDL. This TH-cam is best thing to follow to stay get healthy and stay that way. Thank you!

      DR Ken Berry and several others have launched a series of research to find out why when the patient with high cholesterol (LDL) , goes higher still, when he follows a low carbohydrates, moderate fat and protein diet, something most patients come to realise is the "ketogenic diet" of Dr.Oz.. I am curious Dr Ben Bikman has not explained this phenomenon either, if insulin resistance and the reason for metabolic diseases are also explaning.

    There are only 3 sources of calories: fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Taking away fat, by definition, equals adding carbohydrates. Hello, insulin resistance!

      Although I am a proponent of carbohydrates reduction we should not demonize them because it is more complicated and this simplificatiin could lead to decredibilization. We have to focus on why ultraprocced food leads to insulin resistance.

    • @DF-ee8vt
      @DF-ee8vt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nutribe_mct I agree 100% about the ultra-processed foods, and I personally advocate a "lower carbohydrate" diet. I believe you have to find your optimum level of carbs. You must agree, though, that carbs do cause insulin to increase, and too much insulin on a regular basis contributes to insulin resistance. The processed foods can cause lots of inflammation, too.

    I have benefited greatly from watching lectures and reading a few books by the likes of Phinney, Lustig, Fung, Bikman, Goldkamp, Teicholz (and about twenty others). What a wonderful, well organized presentation ! Your TH-cam presentations seem always informative and well organized. You are now on my list of people I follow closely. When you teach, those of you who have followed the formal education process to acquire knowledge in an orderly fashion, allow old goats like me (70), for whom time is growing shorter, to reverse engineer what is needed NOW. I would love to become an expert, but I doubt that will happen. I have learned some of the basics, but what you guys teach me increasingly fleshes out the bare bones and increases my confidence that I am closer to the right path. I'm not trying to be expert , I just want my ignorance to shrink somewhat. You all have led me to the water, now I'm in the process of trying to drink. Can't thank you enough.
    PS: I have forwarded the link to my physical therapist daughter in Sweden.

    I really like this presentation you did here. It needs to be shared world wide! Get the word out! Because I am someone who went to my doctor asking for help and before they even considered blood sugar or mediation to see if they could help with my weight gain, they waited until I was OVER WAIT in their eye, their being my insurance and whoever my doctor answers to. It's very frustrating. And now I'm over wait and having all these symptoms. I switched doctors and now am hoping I am on the right track to loosing weight by controlling my insulin!! I love listening to you and love all of the research and time you have put into these videos! Please keep going! You are helping so many understand this differently. And I hope someday doctors are more educated and the way doctors are taught changes and the guidelines can change too! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

    Awesome video. Can you please elaborate more on minute-for-minute strength training and how much time should one strength train every day?

    • @drmorgannolte
      @drmorgannolte  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for the positive feedback. Minute for minute, strength training helps build muscle strength and mass. The more muscle you have, the more glut 4 transporters you have on your cell membrane, and the more room you have for while to deposit glucose as muscle glycogen. These three factors help improve insulin sensitivity minute for minute compared to aerobic training (among other direct means). I recommend strengthening all major muscle groups at a moderate to high intensity (fatigue after 10-15 reps)...fatigue being the most important part of that, where you can't do another rep with good form. Strengthening all major muscle groups 2x/week is sufficient. You can do this formally at the gym, or on my busy weeks (such as last week), one of my workouts was simply body weight resistant like push ups, planks, and jumping lunges.

    • @drmorgannolte
      @drmorgannolte  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for this suggestion. Have you considered combining intermittent fasting with Keto? I think that's a better solution so that you can still eat ample protein to support muscle. That being said, I haven't researched that topic in depth. One of my most common questions is how to increase protein using intermittent fasting. I've added your question to my video topic spreadsheet and will be sure to address this in an in-depth video (similar to this one), but specifically related to evidence on protein and fasting, and how to get enough when using fasting, in 2022.

Now I know I am on the right path. I signed up for your free class. I have belly flat I am trying to get rid of , but doesn’t seemed to come off. Would lifting weights help. Just my 2 cents: Make sure you're not eating seed oil(canola, corn, soybean, etc.) in restaurant food, salad dressings, or mayonnaise. Obviously, lower carb intake including pastas, breads, and, of course, sweet things, including fruit. Without knowing more, it sounds like you're on the right track.

    doctor what's your thoughts on resistant starch and keto

    • @drmorgannolte
      @drmorgannolte  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a helpful article on the health benefits of resistant starch: hopkinsdiabetesinfo.org/what-is-resistant-starch/. Everyone's body is different, so how you'd respond to resistant starch would be different from someone else. If you're serious about your ketone levels, you could get a ketone monitor like the Keto Mojo and check your ketones with and without resistant starch in your diet. It's a good way to add fiber to the diet without raising glucose...but you have to consider the other carbs that come in the food source (if you're getting resistant starch from whole foods) because those will still raise glucose and reduce ketones.

    If one is losing weight, is there any way in reducing the negative impact of the omega 6 fat being released from the stored fat
    into the blood stream ?

    • @drmorgannolte
      @drmorgannolte  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is an excellent question. My first thought is there has to be some detoxifying nutrients you could try but I'd have to do more research into which ones specifically. I'd search for "detoxifying nutrients omega-6" in google scholar and start there. I added it to my questions list and if I can get Dr. Ben. Bikman on the show again I'd like to ask him that question. Another thing that you could consider is keeping inflammation low through omega-3 fatty acids from things like blue-green algae or fatty fish like salmon.

    • @Aliciaskinsecret

      @@DF-ee8vt The first exposure of a moldy HVAC was my business, it was a flat roof. The system was up there. After 6 years of trying everything I could to get back to the way I originally was when I moved into this place. (29yrs-35) I somehow knew all of a sudden to get on the roof and look at the air System, luckily I did because it was very bad with mold. I have scar tissue on my lungs from it. Within 2-4 weeks of not going back into this building I really started to look more like my old self pretty quickly. So I am aware of the signs to look for now when working in a building, home, or visiting a department store or even a friends home. It’s amazing their is actually a lot of mold in HVAC systems because they condensate and it’s up to the owner to take care of them properly and most don’t. I’ve been exposed now 2xs to moldy HVAC units and both times gained a lot of inflammation and weight. I really like sharing awareness because I wouldn’t have spent six years trying to do everything healthy the first time when it was actually just the building

    This should read "increases nitric oxide release". Nitrous Oxide is a completely different kettle of fish; that's the stuff your dentist uses to ameliorate pain during dental surgery. Nitric Oxide is a bit of a wonder molecule and its constant production in the body is an essential component in addressing metabolic distress, including insulin resistance.
