I bought an Ultrafeed Premium from you Dec 2023, still in the box yet until I get it's new home ready. Well, this video has certainly provided a great, nice looking professional option to consider!!! ... If you've not made a video of how to install "ID Windows" in products yet, please use this idea and create one!!! ... Thank you, have a beautiful day💛
Excellent and extremely helpful video. I am toying with the idea of putting a window in a tent enclosure. Your video was so well done that it provided many 'tips' I never would have thought of ...how to effectively use the double-sided tape, sew window before cutting out material, etc. SO many helpful details carefully captured in your video. Again, well done. & thanks!
What a find this company is. Themachine has been perfect, and staff support invaluable. They answered email as clearly as the video. Never condescending, always giving rationale
We are glad to help provide support for any sewing project. We love selling the best portable heavy duty sewing machine in the world, the Sailrite Ultrafeed, and also larger sewing machines as seen in this video. Thanks for the positive comments.
A good tip for you when doing the layout is to use a cut up piece of a hula hoop or the like to trace your arc. It makes for really nice radius's. I used one when i was younger when cutting out docks and decks in the Florida inter-coastal way. I would tack in the cut hula hoop with nails on the side to be cut off. I could make variable radius's that way. Draw it in and cut.
Wonderful videos! I used this yesterday to make a "test window" using a square piece of plastic table cloth sewn into an old piece of nylon material I had. The instruction was perfect and the window came out really nice. The seam stick (I only had double sided tape for scrap booking) works wonders. That really is the trick to make the whole process easy. Thanks so much for the uploads. Very helpful! Hopefully I can order from you over here in Europe. Thanks again!
As always, a great video! It would be great if you would remind us at the beginning of the video what size needle and recommended stitch length. For us newbies….😊
Thanks for all the great videos you provide. Can't wait to try this myself. For this one I would suggest making the slit in the fabric near the middle of the long straight edge. This way the remaining fabric will be larger for another potential smaller size project.
Following this procedure right now to put a window in a canvas side for our Barzebo. Thanks for an excellent, easy to follow and well presented tutorial.
Thank you very much for your videos! I was planning on enclosing my rear deck of my houseboat to help with heating and cooling costs. These video's are awesome!
brilliant video - I'm going to use this to create my own outdoor canvas blinds for my porch, due to the heavy winds and rain it's convenient to have it covered. Can't really afford to get a company to install it for me or to purchase from them, so DIY it will be.
I tried something that worked well. I used a vinyl backing instead of bias tape. The double sided tape went down the middle and the stitches were on each side along the backing. This was much better because when my machine goes over the sticky tape it gets gummed up. I would have appreciated some tips on how to cut out the fabric without damaging the window underneath.
These videos and instructions are fabulous. I plan on using these to add a window into a bimini for our sailboat. Several years ago we bought a bimini kit (with the stainless framework and also the bimini fabric cover) from Sailrite and their instructions and attention to detail were just what we needed. The bimini turned out wonderfully and we get lots of compliments on it. Thanks Sailrite -- keep up the good work!
Great videos, alas I didn't watch it before I removed the large center window from a 343 dodger. Ah but ALL IS NOT LOST, I set up a larger table in my garage and the proper seam basting tape should arrive tomorrow. It is an eight year old dodger so great guinea pig project. Viva Sailrite !
I have a large piece of canvas (nylon?) that needs it's plastic window replaced. The original window is probably heat bonded to the fabric. The plastic is torn in a few places and needs to be replaced. So., my plan is to use the instructions in this video (have already ordered supplies from Silrite). I will leave the old plastic window in place to help keep the shape right. My question is how should I go about sizing the window? Cut the old one out when I get to that step? Try to peel the old clear plastic off? Just sew through all of it? I have an industrial sewing machine that I use for leather so I'm now worried about that. Advice? AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS. Very professional, useful and applicable.
When replacing clear vinyl we do as you state..."leave the old plastic in place to keep the shape". We sew a new clear vinyl window over the top of the old then cut away the old after the new is sewn in place. If possible sometimes we sew slightly outside the old clear vinyl, so we can cut away all the old. However, sometimes we don't have a choice and have to sew through all the old assembly and have to leave the part sewn down and cut away the rest. I hope this helps, if not email me: ericg@sailrite.com
Awesome, im in the same process at the moment and was wondering what the best approach would be and you answered it right here thank you! @@SailriteDIY
Thanks, this video is exactly what I needed! I am building a top for an older Argo 8x8 and putting canvas on top with vinyl windows, I will be following this tutorial to complete the project.
You guys make it look sew easy! Your instructions clearly specify cutting the canvas afterwards, along with rationale. I watched this video with optimism that perhaps there might still be a way for me to utilize your products to replace the rear window on the convertible top of my Porsche. Any thoughts?
Yes, we have had customers who have replaced clear vinyl in convertible cars with success. However, since we have not ever done a project like that I am not sure I can offer advice.
Superb video!! I would love to do a full enclosure for my boat by myself. Are there any more videos like this one to properly guide me on how to do it? I would be more then glad to order all the material needed from Sailrite.

Any help making this instead of them shaddering the glass Everytime they put the top down and the glass is not just right this would solve all my problems . Could you give me a.quote in all I need ?
It is difficult to stop that from happening. Seamstick basting tape can help prevent the wicking of water into the needle holes. We do sell seam sealers also, they can be helpful also.
@@SailriteDIY On a different channel I have seen they flipped the layers at the bottom so the window surface ends on the outside. Perhaps this makes a difference also ...
Hi Oyster, You can replace an older window, but making a new dodger is the cleaner and preferred method. Here is an old video of us replacing a window in a dodger. th-cam.com/video/Zn7OLTqcjWg/w-d-xo.html
Hi, thanks for a great guide. What needle and thread is used there (size of needle and thread) .I am a beginner and start learning .It is very interesting to see how it is done. Thkx from Denmark
Well, for this project we were using a PTFE thread called Tenara and a size #18 needle. PTFE thread is a lifetime thread, most canvas jobs are sewn with a V-92 Polyester Thread and a size #20 needle.
When you sew on bias binding on the inside of the canvas, what do you do if you will change out the window later? From what I have learn on a different Sailrite video that canging out the window, you sew on a new window over the old one and then cut out the old window. But if you install binding on the inside, you then will get a binding layer between the old and the new window edge.
Well you have three options: 1. Make the new window a little bigger, so the old window can be cut out along with the binding. 2. Sew the new window in along with the old binding in place. This will make for a very thick perimeter, so you may not want to pick this option. 3. Cut out the old window and use plenty of double-sided tape (Seamstick for Canvas #129) to baste the new window in the open hole. You will have to work hard to get the canvas to lay without wrinkles before sewing.
I am looking at making a custom recumbent trike enclosure. most people who have done it use fiberglass. to me, a canvas enclosure would be lighter and just as good-provided the canvas can be waterproofed with scotch guard.... i love the idea of this but is there another way to join this clear vinyl to canvas besides sewing ?
No, the heavy canvas and vinyl will easily clean the double sided tape off the needle when sewing. That is typically only an issue for lighter fabrics.
We typically use a standard round point (sharp) point sewing machine needle. The size depends on the size thread used. If using V-92 thread use a size #20 if V-138 use a size #21
If you use a basting tape (Seamstick for Canvas) in between the vinyl and fabric it will help prevent the leaking of water through the needle holes. If you have sewn through the double sided tape it will expand slightly filling the neeedle holes and it helps prevent leakage. However a seam sealer can also be used if you like like this: www.sailrite.com/Iosso-Seam-Sealer-4oz

You can buy the basting tape here: www.sailrite.com/Seamstick-3-8-Basting-Tape-for-Canvas-36-Yards
How would you install the same window with the option of still having it covered if you needed privacy?
Usually a snap on cover is installed to provide privacy.

We are sewing this with the Sailrite Big-n-Tall sewing machine with a compound walking foot.
Why do you pronounce "Sail Rite" as "say-a-rite"? (11:18)
