  • Disney does not forget the past. Disneyland is landlocked and can not grow so in order to have new attractions an older attraction will have to go to make way for the new. But, Disney leaves tributes of the old attractions, as a reminder to what came before. Today I am going to show you the Top 10 tributes to old attractions.

    Mike Fink was a a folk hero from the early 1800’s. His popularity waned after the Civil War, but he was used as a character in the Davy Crockett series. The character predates Tom Sawyer by a long stretch.

  • @mrksansom
    @mrksansom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    Great video Chris! Correction: Mike Fink featured prominently in the 1956 film 'Davey Crockett and The River Pirates' not Tom Sawyer. The Mike Fink Keel Boats attraction was directly inspired by the movie (and subsequent television series). The original television-production boats were used for the attraction, until the larger three-window replicas got built. I have another honorable mention... the original foundation for the Monsanto House of The Future can still be spotted over in Pixie Hollow. Cheers!!

      The house of the future was great, it was filled with such advanced things as plastic cups and microwave ovens. When the house of tomorrow started looking like it was the house of yesterday, they tore it down. Only then did they find that the only thing that was still beyond their technological grasp was the space age polymer that it was made out of. It took then considerably longer to tear it down than they anticipated, as the wrecking ball merely bounced off of the house.

    Hi Chris, its Addison! I saw you and Amanda while you guys were at Smoke Jumpers on Wednesday, and I can’t thank you guys enough for taking your time to get up from eating to say hi to me. I was so starstruck to actually see you guys in the park and it really made my day; and my whole entire trip. Me and my Mom would always talk about how cool it would be to meet you guys in the park, we never thought it would happen. You guys are the literal best, so kind and sweet! I can’t thank you guys enough. I would know so much less about Disney than I do now without you guys. You are an inspiration to so many people including me! Have an amazing day. 💚💙💚

    I remember Disneyland as a kid, growing up in So. Cal. only lived about 30 minutes away, my grandparents lived just ten miles down the road. all those attraction gone, I remember them so well. My grandpa was one of many construction workers that help built Disneyland. His company help built Sleeping Beauty Castle. He even saw Walt himself giving his thoughts on the castle construction. He had his hand in the construction of his dream.

    Another one that you missed, if it’s still there, is right past the dumbo ride in fantasy land. If you’re heading towards frontier land toward big thunder, there is the station for the old skytram that went from fantasy land, through the Matterhorn, and down into Tomorrowland. Also I know you put the people mover as an honorable mention, but the whole track is still there too in plain sight

    Chris, this video was so enjoyable to watch!! Who knew that Disney left so many remnants behind of old attractions that used to be there?! That's so cool! I think my favorite remnant that you showed in the video was the rocket from the old Astro Orbiters ride. Either that, or the transformed counter from the old People Mover ride (I can't decide XD). But either way, I loved watching this video, and I can't wait to see what's going to come out next! Thank you Chris for always bringing us a little bit of Disney joy each day!

  • @joeleon5009

    Chris, thank you for doing this video. It's incredible that Disney leaves tributes to past attractions. There are a few things I remember that wasn't mentioned in the video: 1. When you walk across the bridge to Frontierland, there is a cave with bars on it. A train from Nature's Wonderland would go through that when that ride was around. 2. The gated area when you exit Casey Jr. Circus Train and there's weeds in the back. It was also part of the Nature's Wonderland attraction.

    • @bncsmom1

    This was so much fun! Nice to remember those things of the past. I would add the entire building that used to be the Carousel of Progress. There’s a great big beautiful tomorrow shining at the end of every day, and they really need to find some great big thing beautiful to do with that building that was as much fun as the carousel.

    I always like to point out the remnants of the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland. But not just the track and tunnel behind Thunder Mountain, also the leaping fish in the branch of the river near it. Plus, I heard somewhere that some of the Devil's Paint Pots props were reused in the rainbow mine within Thunder Mountain.

    • @peterzimmer9801
      @peterzimmer9801 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think the leaping fish have been working for years…but I remember them working 10 years ago. There used to be plenty of remnants of Mine trains through nature’s wonderland when they still had big thunder ranch. I feel like the tunnel is the remaining remnant from that attraction. Because they did demolish cascade peak back in the mid 90’s…

    Cool video, I think some of the original Mike Flint keelboats they had were from the Davey Crockett movie. I would really like to see you go and investigate what's left of the foundation of the Monsanto house of the future that was in tomorrow land from 1957 to 1967 at the entrance. There is a chuck of the foundation over by Ariel's grotto literally next to the building.

      That’s a good idea actually. Would love to know what else is leftover from the house of the future (besides the foundation to old mermaid shell/tinker bell meet and greet sits on). 👍🏻

    Love watching all you’re videos and as someone who suffers from poor mental health with things like depression and anxiety, I love your little positive messages to everyone about how much they matter. Lovely little touch. Keep up with the great vids

    Chris, I’ve watched your videos a lot and today happens to be a rough one it’s the third year anniversary of my father passing, and to cheer myself up I love watching your videos on Easter egg type stuff at Disney. I wasn’t expecting that part where you were talking about if someone was having a bad day but you gave me my first smile today. I’m not sure if you’ll see this but thank you, and thank you for everything you do and all the time and effort you put into making such wonderful content!

    Hey, Chris, I love your content, HOWEVER Mike Fink was from Davy Crocket, he and Davy have a race in which Davy won and Mike had to eat his hat. Mike Fink was in I believe two of the episodes of Davy Crocket. Just thought you would like to know he had nothing to do with Tom Sawyer or Huck Fin. and California Adventures is on the original Disneyland Parking Lot, but great fact.
