  • The heir and successor to John Wyclif, John Huss, carried on his tradition of affirming the simplicity of the gospel and challenging the corruption of the leadership of the Church. From his powerful preaching at the Bethlehem Chapel in Prague, he argued for a return to the central truths of the New Testament. His growing influence led to his trial and execution by the very leaders he had so vigorously criticized, but by his death even greater forces were unleashed that would eventually erupt in the sweeping movement known as the Reformation. In my opinion this man is one of the best lecturers. He is Interesting, extremely knowledgeable and his delivery is near perfect. As a devout Catholic and a hard-core ancient Roman history fanatic this man is fair and balanced....which is very hard to find in people today.

Bruce Core is Brilliant. Talking about filling in the blanks of church history. Wow. We read the bible but left as to what has happen after the book of Rev. i encourage all to start at the beginning of this church history.

I never really realized that dying for a cause would actually be a great way to go. I am so afraid of death. In that sense it is embarrassing to call myself a Christian. Especially in the face of such dedication of these great men of God willing to give it all up for the word. wow. I went and am still going threw a bout with :Leukemia and am still freaked out..

God always gives the grace we need for the challenge we face. He doesn't give grace for challenges we are not facing! Christians who have faced martyrdom have been given grace for the trial. May God give you grace, my friend.

"When the body of Huss had been wholly consumed, his ashes, with the soil upon which they rested, were gathered up and cast into the Rhine, and thus borne onward to the ocean. His persecutors vainly imagined that they had rooted out the truths he preached. Little did they dream that the ashes that day borne away to the sea were to be as seed scattered in all the countries of the earth; that in lands yet unknown it would yield abundant fruit in witnesses for the truth. The voice which had spoken in the council hall of Constance had wakened echoes that would be heard through all coming ages. Huss was no more, but the truths for which he died could never perish. His example of faith and constancy would encourage multitudes to stand firm for the truth, in the face of torture and death. His execution had exhibited to the whole world the perfidious cruelty of Rome. The enemies of truth, though they knew it not, had been furthering the cause which they vainly sought to destroy." The book The Great Controversy

I love your series and your teaching, but the only thing I have to say though, the blue background with the text, it is very difficult for people with vision problems to look at. Sorry, blue is probably one of your favorite colors, but I have vision problems and others do as well so looking at the words on the blue background is difficult to look at.
Other than that, good information and you speak well.

For me, simple black letters on a white background would work and that way the images would also be clear.
I like the information though. I put it on full screen and watch the videos without leaving my couch, because the next one plays right away.
I did not know about Bernard of Clairvaux, and that was good information. It shows exactly what I had been taught in my church about what people mistake mysticism as. They tend to think in modern terms that mysticism is connected to magic. You have said it almost the same way I have and was taught, mysticism then meant a desire to know and understand God inwardly.
I know this might sound strange to some people, but I would call Bernard of Clarivaux an original Pentecostal, and people might be confused with the modern definition of Pentecostalism, but what I was taught as a Pentecostal and not part of any organization of Pentecostal, was that the experience is for all believers and ran down through history and didn't just start at Azuza Street.
Only the modern name of Pentecostal in America began there, yet the name was in use for a long time and it wasn't always called Pentecostal.
So your assessment of Bernard of Clairvaux is exactly what I was taught. That "mystical" experience is historical and it simply meant internal and not external.
Which does make sense why people are confused today, because the assumption is that mysticism is connected to magic and that Pentecostal is simply a name that began out of the Wesleyan holiness movement.
But you have also hit on a good point, many modern Pentecostals are looking at the outside and not inwardly.
Quakers also began with that internal and therefore are also considered mystics. Hildegarde of Bingen was perhaps the most famous of Christian mysticism. And now, people have confused and conflated Christian mysticism away from the original expression.
You should do a series on that, the history of Christian mystics and compare it with the modern Pentecostal and Charismatic movements. Some Pentecostals, like me, know that we didn't begin at Azuza Street and we have a very old heritage.
As you were talking about Bernard of Clarivaux, I kept saying "exactly as I was taught" about internal and not external.
That was a very good teaching you did.

@@GoreBruce John Hus was burned at the stake in Constance. At the end of the 20th century a statue was set up in Constance depicting a harlot holding the king and the pope. th-cam.com/video/-qqKwsMQpLE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nTsaVrX7KXB301W1&t=41. As you know at the council of Constance many religious and worldly leaders came together and eventually elected a new pope in a house of trade. Documentaries about the council compare the magnitude of the gathering to the United Nations. In the 6th bowl Jesus has predicted that all nations will be gathered. And so they have in the United Nations. In 2001 the world trade center, the house of trade, came down which is at the core of Babylon. I am convinced by studying the holy Word of God that Babylon is coming down right now. Look at all the world living in confusion and reaping the folly that has been sown. The debt of the USA will reach $34,000,000,000,000 soon. The "great American Experiment" has turned out to be just another chapter in the history of Babylon where confusion covers up the knowledge of God. hypocrisy, and the love of money. I know you consider the US Revolution inspired by Christianity. The core argument of Jesus that the kingdom of God is not of this world, is that his disciples do not take up arms to help themselves. Jonathan Edwards was showing the way to political power by waiting to the year 2000 when the anti christian system will fall. The way to political power is to trust in God and his prophecies just like David did. David did not use force to take the throne but waited his time. The Christians of the US Revolution took up arms and fought the political power instituted by God. They should have followed the example of David. David was anointed King by the Israelite eventually. And likewise will the church take over political power when the meek inherit the earth. So Jonathan Edwards has been right all along and now the political power will be transferred to the children of God beginning with the preaching of the fall of Babylon.

I have been enjoying your historical overview and I tried very hard not to let your personnal agenda become an obstical and it worked, thank be to God. Now my perspective on christianity has changed to the following.: It is like going into a grocery store. One wants oranges; another wants celery; another wants T-bone steak. ( Pardon the imagery). One does not find oranges and concludes that their are none. Another who wants apples says to the one who wants oranges but I just bought some and they are in row 5. Going to row 5, the person looking for oranges meets the person who is looking for T-bone steak and says to him, ''they are right behind you.'' The one looking for oranges is side tracked by the argument that ensues with the one who wants T-bone and who says ''no, no, no, I've been there and there are no T-b0ne there, all the while refusing to turn around and take a second look. No one calls the manager or the person in charge for selecting the stock, for displaying it and for selling it. And no one asks the stockboy who is standing and working in the next row. That is now my view on Christianity following your presentations. Christianity has now become to me, a store that is very unattactive, discouraging for custommers, and becomes a justification to join a cult. Love you to bits, admire your honesty, your efforts but there is no distance between yourself and what is being presented. I have learned, through great hardships that we need to be self effaced. Then and only then does the the Holy Spirit work in His mysteries ways. My uncle use to say that a bit of knowledge is very dangerous thing. Now what does it mean to be self effaced?

+suzanne guiho Thanks. I quite agree, church history is messy business. To me it is an argument that God must be in it, because it's hard to imagine how such a dysfunctional institution has nevertheless been responsible for accomplishing so much well-documented good in the history of humanity.

I know this is an old post but i just cant get over the intellectual value of the comments on these site videos.. This is as good as a book and many things could be marketed and published. That is an interesting analogy even though i don't get the point fully. In one sense faith in Jesus is an admission of a failed plan of my own and surrendering to the care of Him .On the other side it is the acceptance of myself in spite of my failure/

John Huss' portrait looks suspect. Was he a Hapsburg? I have it on good authority that images of these people aren't at all accurate, and that in fact, the real individuals were kind of on the darker side in terms of complexion, as in, they were blacks.

Bohemia was not province part of the Holy Roman Empire. Bohemia was independent kingdom - part of the Holy Roman Empire. I think, in this sense, is not possible to say that Bohemia was province or worst province part. this is a common mistake, especially for small sections of Germans historians who would like it to be. Bohemia was an Imperial State in the Holy Roman Empire. The kings of Bohemia, besides Bohemia itself, also ruled other lands belonging to the Bohemian Crown, which at various times included Moravia, Silesia, Lusatia, and parts of Saxony, Brandenburg, and Bavaria.
