  • eGarage recently caught up with our friend Magnus Walker to check out his new ride. Built in six weeks from a former track car, this outlawed 1978 SCHR is his example of a Porsche 911 that can be easily attained and personalized without breaking the bank.

    OK, so I have an SC. You can do a lot or nothing at all and still enjoy it. Stock is 160 to 170MPH. Running and set up in top condition. I added electric Racarros and eliminated the AC and compressor. Gutted the smuggler's box and added
    a blower. The main issue with the car is the cylinder head case bolts that were replaced with alloy which was a disaster for the 3.0. . They snap off due to heat fatigue. They must be replaced with steel . The heat exchangers are OK for winter driving but again I changed them to steel headers. Slotted racing rotors and Yokohama 225/65 and racing pads keep the car secure even at high speeds. It's all the car I care to own. I let the twin turbos show off but the rest of the time the road is mine.

    Those bumpers look so much better that the ugly stock ones though personally i'd prefer them painted body color. LOVE that front splitter, looks perfect and very OEM.

    Little tip, if you want to record good audio, put the microphone to the inside of the car. The best audio is where the driver is sitting, because you get a lovely mix of induction and exhaust sound.
    This mic placement close to the exhaust tips is pretty horrid to listen to.

    81 to 83 SC'S are the best ! All in all, bullet proof engines and relliable! Factory headstud replacement is not as common as people make it out to be. A Lot of poor maintanence, lazy owners and thrashed SC's give them a bad rep for breaking headstuds! The 911SC is for life !

    • @TAXCOLLECTOR-mx3mg
      @TAXCOLLECTOR-mx3mg 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. I own an 83 I've had for 12 years now. Targa 3.0 bulletproof is a fact. The Targa is a roll bar. Looks great with the duck tail option too. Recarro seats a must have.

  • @1240enzo

    Huh sadly, the price of all 911s has jumped significantly out here in Aus, and it is virtually impossible to find any air cooled 911 these days for less than $60+K. Most 911 coupes (Targas being slightly cheaper), seem to be going for between $70-100K.

    • @jamesross2373
      @jamesross2373 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was just the name for 911s built between 1978 and 1983. The SC pretty much saved the 911 because it was going to be replaced by the 928 but it ended up selling way more than Porsche expected.

    • @johnnyz1781
      @johnnyz1781 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SC means Super Carrera. It has a 3.0 engine and is more torque than early cars. Differences is they have impact bumpers, weight more and don't rev as high. Porsche sold a metric ton of them as well. Later 3.2 Carreras are a much better car but are basically +$5k more. Earlier 2.7s are much more problematic and slower.

    Porsche has to be the weirdest manufacturer in the sense that for the price of mid eighties tortured 911 you can buy two early 2000's 996's with low mileage. But I guess the air cooled engine and the smooth ride of torsion bar suspension is worth it.

      I wonder if you've realized in the past three years that what Akira Nakai does is equally acceptable as what magnus does. A reciprocating saw is an appropriate tool for cutting fenders, and window urethane is perfect for sealing body seams. At the end of the day Magnus is a Porsche collector and modifies his own cars as he likes. Akira Nakai runs a business installing wild body kits with a racing inspiration. The fact that his creations are so popular speaks for itself. These people are both just making unique interpretations of Porsche in their own way

      Lucky Brooks The 911SC's are very good bang for the buck, it has the classic 911 personality and can be easily personalized with rsr bumpers, duck or whale tails, etc for a very cheap price. Just like what Magnus did to his.

    • @1Reddd
      @1Reddd 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lucky Brooks The absolute cheapest Porsche 911, however not a classic (yet), but is still a fun driver's car. A Porsche 996... It's quite a newer Porsche, but a slightly odd design in my opinion, especially with the bug eyed looking headlights, but still nevertheless a Porsche. The Turbo versions are still out of most people's reach though, about $40,000... But a Carrera would probably go for $20,000, if not maybe less.
