I think game developers should be more clear what they will include, what they will include later as update or DLC and what they don't include all together. The things some fans are upset about are their own expectations not being met and their ideas of a life simulation crushed.
Sometimes I do think fans expect to have everything in a short timeframe. Human life itself is a vast scope to boil down to a game and I think the Sims 1 and 2 did a good job in what is included and not included in a life simulation that pretty much everyone else use this as a blueprint. Will Wright might be on to something here.

Paralives has been taking community suggestions since day 1 and they’re a small indie team of 12 people. They probably don’t want to make false promises if it doesn’t run smoothly, which they wanted to be their priority.
There is no excuse for the sims team though.

Being able to create your own maps for The sims 2 in Sim City 4 was a great feature.

Should I do that cringe TH-cam thing, FIRST!!
Anyway, totally agree on simple world management being a miss in modern life sims. I am a story builder who plays in family rotations where I change families every Sims week. But I will spend a month just town prepping for my sims before doing a long stretch of just playing in that town. The fact I have to use a mod to place community objects outside my lot in Sims 4 is just frustrating! Sometimes I just want a mailbox prop on the corner. We have a new hopscotch that looks like chalk on a sidewalk, I would love to place that on a sidewalk outside my home lot…without a mod!!! I am not asking to teraform the world, just for that ability to add some objects into the dead space around the lot so my sims have something to DO in that dead space so that dead space looks and is less devoid of purpose. And what’s sad about Sims 4 is unlike Sims 2, some of the maps have huge walkable areas outside the main lot but there is litterally NOTHING TO DO. If I want to go on an aesthetic walk, I’ll go walk the real world and get real exercise.
For example, The base game playground objects are so boring and because all packs can only pull from itself and base game, when they make outside the lot play areas it is always with the same equipment. And I can’t replace the boring monkey bars with my CC play equipment or anything else from another pack on the wasted space outside my lot and between lots without a mod. Not to mention losing the ability to place as many lots as you wanted in Sims 2 and 3.
I think Sims 2 has been the most ambitious Sims game to date with trying to go above an beyond its predecessor and give players as many ways to shape their own play as possible, including an inbuilt build-a-neighborhood tool. Sims 3 Create A World tool was outside the game so you kinda had to intentionally go searching for it. And while Sims 3 was ambitious for its open world, a lot of what it did otherwise was because Sims 2 had traveled that road of innovation beyond Sims 1. Then Sims 4 just releases in 2014 as Sims 1 with better graphics. Taking away world editing as opposed to building on it. While it has great building tools confined to the space of a lot, those tools are hard fenced into that lot and EA entirely controls what a map is beyond and between those lots.
Just a little thing. While I enjoyed your thoughts, it would have been a tad more Interesting if the trailer clips you used in the video were cut up a bit and visually more attached to what you were talking about. Even if only loosely.

Feedback noted 😊. I'm treasuring this as my first "First" comment for one of my videos lol.
Placing objects outside of your lots is another mechanic that could go a long way as well.
The Sims 2 really surprised me with its in-built neighborhood tool. I mean it had its limitations but it delivered way above and beyond what I was expecting back when I was playing TS2. Unfortunately with TS3, those very same world building tools would end up being a necessity but only offered as a separate tool.
I really just can't fathom playing TS4. It's just simply not my thing. I don't even like the artistic style used for the worlds. But I completely agree with you regarding TS4 just being a TS1 with better graphics and missing so much gameplay that its predecessors just simply do better.

@@Sovereign-Gaming Fair about Sims 4, I didn’t play it for ages and honestly some fun mods got me into it late in it’s life cycle. At first I tried playing just basegame and base game compatible mods but after a while mods need the packs and packs need the mods in this endless loop, both are lackluster without the other. I just hope for a game where mods are a bonus not requirement in the future. Like Sims 2….if I could get basically Sims 2 with an open world or at least open neighborhood I’d be happy. 😂

I would like a life simulation game where you start from the early medieval era all the way to the modern era. Or you can pick which era/year you'd like to play in the same way you can in CK3.

I believe lby will eventually get us the tools to modify the world. They may do it as a dlc and i would be ok with that idea because not all will want to use it. I enjoyed making my worlds so it is somethings i would purchase.
The problem with a majority of the manufacturers are they are not setting proper expectations and what they will allow us to do/interact with and how. I agree that we need to be able to add interesting things to the environment to make us push our boundaries of how we play. With s4 we hardly leave the lots because of the loading screens.

They also don't give the people what the people want. They often do what THEY want. Like sims 4 not adding burglars because burglar mean and not adding dog houses because they "want dogs to sleep on the couch next to your sims" cool....but that's not what *I want* as a player. The people are paying to get content they enjoy but the sims is just a baby game with no consequences. Nothing matters.
Lby wants to take the utopia route, spouting that you can do whatever you want when really that's not true. Because you won't even be able to get into a scuffle "because c19" or whatever lame excuse....
They aren't listening when it comes to character design. They'd rather rely heavily on the modding community which they don't even have as of now. No modders seem to be lining up ready to make their game better for free. It just reeks of laziness. 🤔 So I've taken a back seat when it comes to LBY. We'll just have to see but im not as excited anymore.

You'd still need to move props if you could alter the roads. Because if you wanted to put a new road in a new place, there would likely be something in the way. Not being able to deal with that, would make removing roads pointless because couldn't put them anywhere.

    • @TheDawnofVanlife
      @TheDawnofVanlife 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Facts, moving props goes hand in hand with this tool. But there have always been ways to handle this in sims, like if some sim is living in a house you can’t just bulldoze it, but you can shape and bulldoze unoccupied areas or ‘move out’/‘evict’ sims to a bin and reconfigure certain areas.

I have no problem not having the ability to change lot sizes (I'm a sims 1 fan), but yeah Sims 4 has had too meny small lots and not enough lots. I feel like if More worlds in sims 4 had been as big as Windenburg or even a little smaller then that (but bigger them most new worlds) then I would have no problems with having a set level of pre-made lots in a world in my opinion🤷‍♀️
Sims 4 has bigger problems then lot sizes in my opinion though.
I just hope LBY, Inzoi and Paralives have better characters.

    • @TheDawnofVanlife
      @TheDawnofVanlife 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I mean there are games that take that route a bit more than sims. I still love fable II being a bit of a mix of sims and an rpg.
But modders have also added a bunch of tweaks to sims 4 that make modern life a bit harder. Like there’s a job interview mod where you have to skill up on the right skills to apply and look for jobs. Simz link adds all the problems of modern internet to the sims. You can merge skill building, modern life, crafting, and collection in a modern gaming skin and have a good game. Look at Sims 2 and 3 for evidence.

I feel like it’s unfair to say life sim games get things wrong for games that haven’t come out yet. And I feel like what you suggest as “What they get wrong” is personal preference. No offense or anything.
Also we play life sim games because majority of us want to play adult barbies not Sim City. That’s why city builders exist, I love those games but they’re not life sim games.
On that note I think you should look up Kenshi or project zomboid or rimworld, Maybe you could call those a life simulator games where you can build and impact the world (kenshi extremely so, if you haven’t played or heard of it I think you’d really like it, give it a chance)
Edit: I also think that I’d rather see better genetics before a life sim gave us the ability to impact the world. A problem in Sims 4 is after a second generation or so Townies start losing their chins and their outfits are atrocious, I don’t want to change a world that starts to look more ridiculous with each passing generation, I’d rather start over each time. And at that point what’s the point of the building

@@anacondabsc not sure why you’re coming on so strong, it feels a little silly. The difference is this feels like criticism towards unreleased games of a brandnew (possible) franchise. We talk in anticipation and excitement towards games like paralives and such because we haven’t seen a real life sim game outside the sims franchise yet. And when the sims community talks about unreleased packs (if that’s what you’re referring to) it’s because the Sims 4 has been out for nearly a decade. We have expectations bad and good for every pack that comes out because we know they’re going to be buggy at launch and too expensive for the gameplay we get because it happens with every launch.

What life simulations get wrong, in my controversial opinion
    1. Realism doesn't matter. Throw realism out of the window and concentrate on gameplay, "life" is just the setting.
    2. Too much combination. A life simulation game shouldn't have any building or town building aspect. I'd rather have houses where you can only change stuff superficially (change colour and shape, but not the positioning. Sell the building part as an architecture game and let people import from there
    3. Town size doesn't matter. I'd rather have a town with 20 very fleshed out charas, where everyone has its own routines and special behaviour, than 200 empty shells
    4. Freedom of choice over graphics. Graphics/animations severly limit how much varied gameplay can be built in. Just make a standard "interact" animation... or actually, make the whole game textbased, with little or no graphics at all.
