    DJI SPONSOR THIS MAN! his videos are 1000x better and informative for the end users (ME and people like me) who are actually watching the videos to make their decision if they should buy this product or not, than teh other people you sponsor who unbox for like 4 minutes and say they will do a video review on it later but never do

    ........... Your Extremely knowledgable. I've watched many other videos on this product, but your review is 100 times better than every other video I have watched so far...... Thanks for your honest review..... 15 second unbox is king...

    Just got this and have been using it heavily on our trip to Asia. Awesome device. Has quirks for sure (the video/photo saving export in the app leaves a lot to be desired) but overall great device. The hand controls are key - very intuitive and easy to switch between photo and video as well as front and rear cameras. Much faster than screen tapping

    We make off-road 'action' videos and do a lot of running up and down the trails. For that, our Osmo with the Z-Axis is a much better option. Looks like with the Osmo Mobile you still get a lot of that up and down motion from walking that is not an issue with the Z-Axis.. But I DO like those active tracking features. The need to balance also looks like a pain.

    Thanks again for the reply. You were the only one to ever reply to my questions. To thank you I wanted to share some info with you. Today I completely stumbled onto the answer. In Amazon search for "Nolan LiveMIC2 Bluetooth Microphone" This amazing device is a clip on mic but also has a stereo mic input. But here is the kicker. It has two modes. A mode for working with Bluetooth earphones and speakers AND a mode for working with smartphones via Bluetooth. I figure you might find a good use for something like this too. Thanks again for taking the time to share you thoughts. Cheers.

      It's good. I just think I'm super picky because I shoot most of my stuff with the Ronin-m. I shot a lot of stuff with it and when I got home and looked at the footage I couldn't believe all the micro shakes. Cant even really fix it with warp stabilizer. I wasn't overly impressed with that. I have a feeling the regular osmo would be better. Though, I've never tried it but I assume that it could be better.

    • @techjunkie77
      @techjunkie77 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zed ProMedia Maybe DJI will come out with some kind of software update to fix that. Hopefully at least otherwise the product will remain kinda crappy to film with while using any new phone with OIS.

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah most of the reviews on it have shown a similar experience to me so I assume mine wasn't defective. It's really bad with OIS enabled. If filmicPro can disable OIS I assume DJI can add that update into their app.

    • @techjunkie77
      @techjunkie77 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zed ProMedia I hope so, buying DJI Phantom 4 tomorrow. Was hoping to get this also to use with my iPhone 7+ but probably gonna wait.

    Already bought this but have experienced the limitations you describe with it first hand and have to agree with you. Good for small short limited clips with family friends. That Filmic Pro has a compatible App helps. Would like to use my iPhone microphones I purchased but can't due to the balance issue. Overall still fun for what I do with it. Thanks for the review.

    Hi, just purchased the OSMO M and watched your video. It's a great take on this consumer level little marvel. As we all know every 3 to 6 months, there is a better (sometimes cheaper) model. Honestly for $299 CDN it is unbelievable what it gives you. Now, where I find you right on the money is about the software. I use both the Filmic and obviously the Osmo proprietary one. I wish Filmic would come up with their own active track. And to transfer or send files, Filmic is quite easy. Anyway let's see where the futur takes us? Great review. Thanks

  • @Bjbarend
    @Bjbarend 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This might be late BUT the reason for the micro shakes is that in the DJI app, ois is OFF... (iphone 6 and 7 has ois)
    So you have a gimble that balances the phone BUT have a phone camera lens that keeps shaking within the phone. Correct me if im wrong :)

    Great review. I did a test video with mine and got stable footage. I love my Osmo mobile using my iPhone 7 plus JB. My biggest issue is the saving photos or videos. Pain in the ass in the dji go app. But it's manageable once you figure it out. Wish it'd just save directly to the phone tho..

    I really got lucky with the timing buying this product. I was shopping for a new phone and reading/watching reviews about the osmo. The most negative things people talk about it is the OIS on the iPhone and the battery of the phone dying too quickly. So i ended up upgrading my phone to the new LgV20 and bought extra batteries for the phone(yes they are removable). I can turn off the Ois on the lgv20 unlike the iphone... and it has a wide angle lens :) so far the combo i have it seems to work well for me.

    • @jerrymichael2551

      JcProdegy. Main reason why i didnt get the s7 edge is the non-removable battery. LGV20 has removable battery and i can swap battery on the fly when recording long videos. No need to wait to recharge. I did my homework.

    As others have said - there is no way currently to turn of the OIS on the iPhone 7 and therefore you get some of the micro jerking. I have heard if you place a small magnet beside the camera lense it will lock the OIS to one side and resolve the issue for now. You can also use the 2x lense that has no OIS.

    Awesome review. Only decent test of the tracking I've seen that tests the subject turning away and the back again, which is a huge thing when filming yourself doing a project demo where your not always facing the camera. It's great to know one can turn away do some stuff and so long as you turn back to the camera the osmo will pick up tracking where it left off.
    Also the explanation of the programmed time lapse and demo was great.
    I understand your issues but for me they don't come into play as I'd recharge my phone when it got to 20% off of a portable pack or wall charger as needed. For a pro who is on an all day shoot where pausing is an issue I can understand it's not ideal but your using bigger and better gear then (dslr camera).
    The issue that does concern me as well is this micro shaking your taking about. That's a design flaw / closed loop control system firmware but I suspect. I'll have to just test it personally to see if it's an issue for me.

    Great video. Your motion timelapse seemed very jittery though. And the reason that you are getting micro shakes is because the image stabilization on the gimbal is conflicting with the optical image stabilization on the phone. Even in Filmic Pro, there is no way to turn off OIS, since OIS is a mechanical feature built into the phone with no mechanical brake built in to stop it. In other words, not even Apple can turn off OIS. The only thing that Filmic Pro and all 3rd party apps can turn off is the automatic and cinematic software based image stabilization. People are under the impression that Filmic Pro can turn off OIS but it cant. That is why folks with iPhones that have OIS are getting these micro shakes and returning their DJI Osmo Mobiles in great numbers...

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The motion timelapse and the active track video look jittery because the DJI app outputs a 30fps video and my final edited video is a 24fps video so it has to drop frames. Yeah I've actually thought the OIS. The iPhone7 is one of the worst phones to use with the gimbal. I tried my old iPhone5s on it and it was a lot smoother. I wish I would have kept it to make a video about but any iPhone with IS will suck with it.

    • @mrcraggle
      @mrcraggle 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zed ProMedia I've read/seen a few people say the stabilisation on the iPhone 7 is in a constant battle with the gimbal which produces less than ideal results. It's not helped by the 7 having stuttery exposure either (but this doesn't seem to effect every phone).

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      mrcraggle yeah I'm pretty sure iphone7 is the worst for this gimbal. Which sucks because the image quality is so good. It's too bad.

    great review, are you going to do more mobile phone gimbal review?

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching. I doubt I will review another gimbal for a phone. In theory its a cool idea but then you realize you need your phone as a "phone" and not a device draining of battery in a gimbal. You're better off getting a GoPro + gimbal or a real camera and a small hand held gimbal. Thats if you want to make some real videos. If you just want to stabilize some quick shots instead of hand held then maybe its the perfect thing for you. I just cant get over how the tiny shakes and jitters get into the video. And I was trying so hard to walk steady.

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought the 7Plus because of the dual camera and portrait mode. Once I realized that the portrait mode is mostly all done in software and it doesn't even work well in low light I was disappointed. I'm also not a huge fan of the larger size. So I returned it after 2 weeks and got the regular iphone7.

    • @onetruth5073
      @onetruth5073 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zed ProMedia yea I see your point but portrait mode is still in beta. It's been getting better since 10.1 update but Apple is still improving and it really does look super nice when your outside

    • @mnsoft
      @mnsoft 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well this is the whole point about portrait mode, and they always said so. You cannot possibly create a real bokeh like with a decent massive lens. What they do is to use both lenses, and machine learning, to identify the subjects. I have seen very nice shots with it, though it is very sensible to low light - no wonder in Apple's product presentation they had a pretty bright photo. Now, really, since the IPhone also will offer the option to always record both shots - the "portrait" mode and the untouched version (though without live photo then), it is an excellent option. I've not regretted trading my IPhone 6 for the 7 Plus.

    Extremely good review, DJI should sponsor u ;) my biggest question was if you could use another app so kudos for that. For some reason the chat guys at DJI couldn't understand what I was asking. if you just used the gimbal stable how well do you think warp stabilizer would correct it? thank you for feed back. I shoot school video and their programs for my company and I think having this over doing the whole Merlin steady cam deal would be easier. Do you think this makes obsolete the Merlin? Not completely of course but just for quick b-roll. Lol ninja walk yes!

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it will be better than a steady cam. I feel like steady cams are becoming obsolete for smaller cameras as gimbals become cheaper. They just do an amazing job and are so much easier to setup.

    • @mnsoft
      @mnsoft 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I've still a SteadiPod from Eddie Barber and have not used it more than once - with a Canon 7D, but it is so sensible for things like sand. I've not even bothered selling it, and the thing cost me over 900 $ or so. Today I'm just shooting with the IPhone since it is so much more portable, and I mostly leave my camera at home. I mean, really, you can get so awesome photos and videos with a 7D, but I only take it with me for wildlife shots, and a significant lens - and then you can't "steady cam" easily anyway.

    Hi Zed,
    Great vid and summary, many thanks. Did any neighbours complain about the drums? If they did, turn up the volume and buzz them with a phantom 4 drone.

      Art Verster haha no complaints. We were so far away from anyone being able to complain up on that cliff. Thanks for watching

    Really nice information, thanks! I am curious , Is it bicycle mount that connects Osmo with Tripod?

    . . . before you gave it away, or sold it . . . did you try it out in windy conditions? I'm keen to find out how the gimbal copes with a strong wind.

    Thanks for the review. What do you suggest for an external microphone solution for an iPhone 7Plus? Your audio sounds good. What did you use? Suggestions?

    The “micro shakes” are because the phones stabilization and the gimbals stabilization are battling each other. And even if you turn off the phones stabilization the lens will still shake a little. So as of now there is no way to get rid of them

    I think more so than the Osmo, I'm impressed with the 4k quality of the iPhone7. Did you replace your iP7 plus with a regular one?

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert Kwolek yeah I took it back and got the regular iPhone7 after I realized how crappy portrait mode was. I really only got the iphone7plus to see how that was. I didn't really like the bigger phone in my pocket haha.

      Zed ProMedia I've never much understood the fad for bigger phones either. Plus as a photographer who almost always has a "real" camera, you probably don't need the telephoto lens either.

      Yeah and in low light the telephoto lens doesn't work anyway. Apple seamlessly switches over to the wide angle lens but zooms in because its better in low light. I didn't really think it was worth it.

    If you had auto stabilize turned on on the iphone and you are trying to use a gimbal you will get those micro shakes. They are battling each other.
