At one time, beggars and sellers of all sorts of nonsense walked around the subway cars. There are also those who like to show off their vocal and musical talent (for a fee). I hope this is no longer the case. I think they still do this on trains in the Moscow region. 😁

It happens extremely rare now, but tik-tokers sometimes bother people in the metro cars.

Another philosophical remark, inspired by an American video about the Las Vegas tunnels and its inhabitants I watched today. America is certainly a great country, but in my opinion, today's American society is less inclusive than Russian and some others. In America, it seems that the existence of social darkness where there is bright light is considered normal and a "natural phenomenon." However, this contradicts the idea of civilization in this most important aspect: protecting people from pristine nature and its risks. The inclusiveness of a society is determined not merely by social mechanisms, but first of all by the philosophical and emotional attitude of the majority of its members to the question of the normality or abnormality of “social darkness.” The United States has a more developed economy and related aspects in society, however, in my opinion, Russian society, with all its other shortcomings, in this aspect turns out to be mostly noticeably more inclusive, and therefore civilized at the moment. Civility is a more fundamental factor in life than the democracy and political freedom of which America prides itself, although in principle democracy and political freedom should strengthen civility. Therefore, I believe that in addition to all the other reasons for your move, this may be another important argument. In my opinion, in other respects, Russian society is younger, and it is paradoxically more reminiscent for example of Japanese society, with all the external and important differences.

I agree with all the points, except one - that US economy is more developed than Russian. It’s outdated point f view. Russia has much better transport infrastructure, financial services, its own hi-tech giants, its own strong science and many other things. Calculation shows that if the economical output is calculated in units of produced goods and services, basically Russian and US economies are at par in that calculation per capita. The difference is that US is in much more privileged position because of the dollar which has a status of reserve currency and US can “print” as many dollars as they want. Russia is not there, but with the de-dollarisation process taking more and more ground and with BRICS financial system, which will be introduced sooner or later, it will get closer in terms of currency strength.

      ### Economy size and GDP per capita
      - **USA**: A significantly larger economy with an annual GDP of $27,360,900 million (2023) and a GDP per capita of $82,034 (2023).
      - **Russia**: A smaller economy with an annual GDP of $2,244,250 million (2022) and a GDP per capita of $15,646 (2022).
      ### Economic growth rate
      - **USA**: Projected growth of 2.7% in 2024.
      - **Russia**: Expected growth of 3.2% in 2024, which is higher than the US and other developed economies.
      ### Debt load
      - **USA**: High level of public debt - 121.31% of GDP (2022).
      - **Russia**: Significantly lower debt level - 18.89% of GDP (2022).
      ### Trade balance
      - **USA**: Negative trade balance -$1,152,972.3 million (2023).
      - **Russia**: Positive trade balance $120,129.0 million (2023).
      ### Current economic challenges
      - **USA**: Slowing economic growth (1.6% in the first quarter of 2024) and accelerating inflation.
      - **Russia**: Labor shortages and limited access to technology due to sanctions.
      ### Conclusions
      1. **Size and Development of the Economy**: The United States remains a significantly larger and more developed economy with a significantly higher GDP per capita.
      2. **Growth Dynamics**: Russia is showing higher growth rates despite sanctions, indicating some resilience in its economy.
      3. **Financial Stability**: Russia has lower government debt and a positive trade balance, which may indicate greater financial stability in the short term.
      4. **Structural Differences**: The US economy is more diversified and technologically advanced, while the Russian economy is highly dependent on the export of raw materials.
      5. **Current Challenges**: Both countries face different economic challenges - US with slowing growth and inflation, Russia with the effects of sanctions and structural constraints.
      6. **Long-Term Outlook**: Despite Russia's current higher growth, the US retains significant advantages in innovation, technology and global economic influence.
Overall, while Russia has demonstrated impressive growth in the short term, the United States remains a larger, more developed and diversified economy with greater potential for long-term sustainable development.
Analyzing the situation with technological self-sufficiency in Russia in comparison with China and the USA, the following key points can be highlighted:
      1. **Russia's position**: Russia is actively striving for technological independence, but currently lags behind China and the United States in this area. President Vladimir Putin emphasizes that technological independence is one of the country's main goals.
      2. **Comparison with China and the USA**:
      - **China**: Achieved a high level of self-sufficiency in key technologies, as evidenced by the statement of 151 types of scientific and technological production industries.
      - **US**: Remains a leader in many technology areas, but depends on global supply chains, especially in semiconductors.
      - **Russia**: It is in the process of developing its own technologies, but has not yet reached the level of self-sufficiency of China or the United States.
      3. **Russian Strategy**:
      - Investing in the development of our own technologies to overcome the backlog.
      - Focus on key areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, new materials and biotechnologies.
      - Striving for import substitution in critical sectors.
      4. **Challenges for Russia**:
      - Sanctions and restrictions on access to Western technologies complicate the process of technological development.
      - The need for significant investment in R&D and education to create a competitive technological base.
      - Overcoming dependence on imports in a number of high-tech sectors.
      5. **Prospects**:
      - Russia is striving to strengthen its position in global technological competition, but the process of achieving complete self-sufficiency will require time and significant resources.
      - Cooperation with other countries, especially China, can accelerate Russia's technological development.
Thus, although Russia is not directly mentioned in the context of the 151 types of scientific and technological production industries, the country is actively working to increase its technological self-sufficiency. However, Russia currently lags behind China and the US in this regard, but is seeking to close the gap through targeted government policies and investments in key technology sectors.
