finally....you solve our problem without the possibility of catastrophe! Bravo. so many on YT just put a valve on the end of the overflow...a recipe for disaster. I can't wait to tear into this on my 2021 GD which lost 2/3 of the tank on my last trip. Thank you for your innovative solution.
Had this happen to me on my new Nexus RV .I'm compiling a shopping list right now😮.The check valve is genius and will keep me from constantly running in and out of the coach to monitor the tank fill process.
I'm a retired plumbing contractor and did the same to my 2018 Grand Design 230rl. I was able to run the line exposed under the rig and it worked fine. Currently have a 2022 280rs and Grand Design has not corrected the problem . I'm 70 and it's getting harder and harder to crawl around under my rig. You did a great job.
Finally someone that understands the science of the issue. I have been trying to explain this to people in forums and just can’t get my point across to them. Now all I have to do is share a link to your video. Thanks!
What a great job you did. You made it looks easy. I'm afraid to pull down the coroplast but I must do it. 2021 Grande Design 22MLE that I do dry camp in. I lost 14 gallons last week one way. The dealer supposedly fixed it under warranty but all they did is loop the single over flow hose and I told them it probably won't work. You must have a vent of some kind that won't siphon . Well... that didn't work very well. I'll drop the belly this week end and take a peak. Thanks a bunch for the work you did. Jimmy G
gGreat solution. Going to do this to my camper. First camping trip and got to campsite with only a 1/3 tank showing on indicator after filling it up. That's a lot of water to lose!
Been fighting this problem with our StarCraft ( and the dealer under warranty!) your fix is exactly what they should do but I will probably end up doing it myself. Thanks
That's pretty good thinking! I have seen the float valves like on you vent before. They're commonly used in power houses. I didn't know they made them that small. If I run into this problem, now I'll know what to do! I have a 2024, but I don't know if they've modified the system to cure this problem or not, since I use city water connections, and only put about 10 gal in my fresh tank in case I need to flush on the road. 😀
A lot of people fill the tank improperly. I have seen many campers just jam a garden hose in the fill and then turn on the water. A hose end is too big and won't let enough air out. Fill tank with a 3/8 ID hose with garden hose adapter on one end. Air can escape around the smaller hose.
Looks like a great fix and very intuitive video. Question: Any reason you didn't use one overflow line for overflow and the other for the check valve? Just curious. I just experienced my first syphoning fresh water tank last weekend. Got to campsite and only 1/3 tank left :(
I think they install two of them to help with siphon break, but they clearly fail at working, judging by how many people I see who have had the same issue.

Glad I could help!! My parts list used is in the description of the video!
You are right- don’t ask how I know.

I actually did the same to my Grand Design 230rl and it works perfectly. We now have a 280rs and I need to do the same. Great job.
Brilliant. I need to do this procedure on my GD 15BH. Thanks for the video!

Forgot to mention that I did talk with Grand Design today and they assure me that the new models do have a system similar to yours from the factory.
That's genius!!!
Well done.

KNEW there was a better way...I'm trying this now. Thanks!
Very informative thank you.

No specific reason, you could do it either way!
My tank also has two vent/overflow lines. Do you know the purpose of having two?
I think they install two of them to help with siphon break, but they clearly fail at working, judging by how many people I see who have had the same issue.
Is this setup still working great?
Yes! It’s working perfectly!!
