    Explains all the confusion I had with my first fresh water tank filling experience. Huge thanks!

    Thanks for the great video. Took our Wolf Pup out for first trip boondocking. Tank indicator said it was full when we left but when we arrived at the camp site, only had 1/3 tank of water. Interesting that Cherokee would skimp on a $15 piece of tubing. Guess they thought we wouldn't notice.

    i freaked out the first time i filled my 2021 Wolf PuP BHS16 and water came pouring out. Found your video a few minutes after we set up our site., Just finished installing the hose,and it was really simple. Thanks for posting this ,and helping out other FR owners add the hose the factory forgot.

    Thanks Nick. Yes - exactly the same issue we had with our Wolf Pup. Before the modification, the fresh water tank would start spilling out at around 17 gallons. After the mod, we got 23 gallons or about a 35% increase. Only reason I think we didn't hit 26 gallons is that the water fill station we were at was not level. Another nice thing about the mod is that you can hear the water come up through the fill tube when it gets full so you can shut off the hose before it spills out.

    I've had my Grey Wolf for 3 years and this is the first video I've come across explaining and illustrating this issue so well... so thank you. The only thing I'd mention is, during the sanitation process, make sure you fill the freshwater tank until it comes out the vent port so you make sure that new tube gets sanitized as well. Keep up the great work with these videos.

      I’m not sure there’s a benefit for that tube to be sanitized since it’s really just meant for air.

I was sort of surprised to see that the mfg just leaves the Flojet pump hanging loose in the compartment. It seems that travel would be bouncing it around quite a bit and I'd worry about the connections coming loose? Maybe batten it down with a little metal strap?

    I have the 16he and yes it has the same issue. I'd fill my tank, water would flow out elbow and I assumed it was full. I also lost a couple gallons in transit. It read full when we pulled out and 2/3 when we got there. We just got it and this was our first trip so I capped it and left the inlet cover loose to vent it. Did the job but now you just saved me a bunch of research and I'm gonna do the same set up as you. I already have everything I need. Thanks. How do you like your camper so far? We have been on one trip and were really happy. I will add battery capacity and an aditional tank because we like to boondock. I have a new propane generator to back us up too. Good video, thanks again.

    Great video and explanation! Thank you!
    I'm in the middle of a similar project in my Grand Design 260RD. The water tank is very similar to yours, but the air vent is designed to pour out on the ground when the water level gets up to it (no tube run to a screened outlet). I'm only getting 30 gallons out of my 55 gallon tank! I've added three angle iron pieces under the tank to deal with the bowing and repositioned the water service inlet/outlet to where the dump valve is (via a PVC T-connector and other parts) and am now up to about 43 gallons of usable water. The third part of this project is setting up the air vent like it is in your camper. I've been playing with different setups but it isn't working properly. The tank will fill completely but the air vent can't clear when drawing water down so negative pressure builds up and the tank starts to collapse. How does the water clear from the loop in the air vent hose??

    • @TheRVPastime
      @TheRVPastime  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might just depend on how the run is. I don’t have that issue with mine. Of water ends up in there it just drains down as water leaves the tank

  • @anomyouslastname4904
    @anomyouslastname4904 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question. Hydroshock. When you fill your tank plumb full, with no air, then you can have hydroshock.
    When you hit a bump large enough the water would have normally sloshed, and the air bubble in the top of the tank would absorb the compression.
    With no air bubble, this slosh turns into hydroshock. Therefore, when it would have sloshed, it explodes and the tank rips apart at the seams.
    So moral of the story, they now plug that port so people stopped overfilling their tank and causing warrentee claims. So if you do this, please do not fill your tank completely full.

    I have never used my fresh water tank always have used city water. But yesterday when I connected my water hose to the for the first time this spring water began to run out of the little vent screen beside the city water connection. I checked and found that the fresh tank is full and I do have a vent hose attached that I assume must have been done at the factory. Do you know of any way the fresh tank could get filled by the city water connection? I bought the Wolf Pup brand new no one has ever worked on the water system I know for sure I have never filled the fresh tank.

    • @TheRVPastime
      @TheRVPastime  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that’s usually a case of the check valve in the pump head stuck open and feeding back into your tank. Try running the pump and seeing if it clears any debris out. Or you might have to take it apart/or replace.

    Hello I recently purchased a 2016 Wolfpuff 16 F Q underneath the trailer there is a slightly larger diameter hose that looks like an accordion that water goes through and it actually runs up over the frame and the belly of the camper has pressed that hose down flat! I cannot lift the belly up to release the pressure or to get a hose out to replace it only for it to do the same thing. There is also pinhole leaks when I fill the water tank? Can you please advise on what I could possibly do to make it repair. Again the hose is like the sewer hose I believe it’s a water fill hose. Thank you in advance

    • @TheRVPastime
      @TheRVPastime  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the hose white? That very well may be your fresh water tank fill hose. You might need to take it to a shop to see if there might be a way of lifting it to free the hose.

    Hey, thanks for the video. I'm in the middle of getting a custom tank made up and the inlet connection needs to be around 50mm below the top of the tank, are you saying this will allow me to fill it above the height of the inlet? Should the tank have an additional hole for the air tube, or you can just use the same connection that the water enters the tank through? From what I can see, the connection you have at the top that you attached the hose to, is only to allow water to spill out, but not for filling?

    • @TheRVPastime
      @TheRVPastime  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, the elbow I attached the hose too is just for air/venting, however, overflow would come out of either the fill hose or the vent tube, or both frankly. As for filling, it just depends on where your fill connection and vent connection is. In my case, the vent connection is juuuuust above the fill connection.

    • @CormacOSheehan
      @CormacOSheehan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRVPastime cool thanks a lot, I might have to look at getting a separate breather connection so as I'm not sure how it is meant to work if the filler is also meant to act as the breather! Waiting on a response from the tank maker so I'm sure they'll be able to advise me too :)

    In my old camper, when I over-filled the tank, water would spurt out through the little overflow hole near the upper water fill input area. In my 2020 WolfPup 16FQ, the water overflows at the bottom, near the fresh water tank (which concerns me--I don't want to ruin my tank). Shouldn't it come out near the top hole that you showed? Could mine be blocked? Thanks

  • @loriejohnson8706

    Isn't this ridiculous. We have a Montana 5th wheel that up thru 2021 they had a vent hole. In the 2022 they don't even have a vent hole, just the elbow out of the tank. We can fill it 2/3 full and by the time we drive less than 1/4 mile to our campsite we lose most of the water. An 87 gallon tank that is worthless. We figure we need to connect a hose to the elbow and find somewhere that we can run it to with either a vent on it or a valve that we close only when driving.

    • @stephenjstoddard
      @stephenjstoddard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This blows my mind. Bought a 2022 Wolf pup and same problem. I lose 1/2 my water by the time I get where I need to go. Makes me think they don't want the tanks completely full.

    • @loriejohnson8706
      @loriejohnson8706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephenjstoddard I think it is just another cost cutting measure. We have had campers for 20 plus years that we filled the tank at home every trip. We camp a lot and drive 250 miles for a weekend. Never had a problem. If they don’t want you to fill or it is impossible to, they should advertise capacity at 2/3 of actual tank. We have been able to stick a plug in ours when driving, but have to get down under camper. Considering rigging up something with easier access with a valve.
