For the record, I'm not a petrolhead, I've never really been that interested in cars, car mods and upgrades etc, I only started driving in my 30's. I only stumbled across your channel whilst looking for clips on 'how to' videos for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, I'm a sad old Dad. But Mat! Seriously fella, I absolutely love your channel, I'm a little bit addicted! I've binged all of your videos and can't recommend you enough to my mates. Thank you for being you and being brave enough to follow this incredibly entertaining path you are on. Can't wait for the next instalment! You Legend!
Upper sump repair is £5.5K if done at a UK Merc dealer. It's also covered under the Mercedes warranty if you have one. Also the RTV should sit overnight before adding any oil to the system. Gives it time to cure properly.
I never buy a new car, always second hand and there are always problems which I manage to sort out. Mat you are inspirational to us all with your passion for repairing damaged cars with a zillion problems- you never give up … Massive respect !!
We used to turn the radio up in our youth when we heard a strange noise in the car. Always worked as offending noise always went away lol. Keep up all your great work.
I think I love this so much because it resonates so close to my heart because I grew up watching wheeler dealers with my grandad all my life and fixing up cars and know that If he was here today he would love this too ...
Just noticed you used generic clear sealant on the sump you might get away with it. The mating surface on the sump has been machined to match the engine so you must use locktite 518 as a sealant. Good job getting stuck in there with the tools
Logically the airbag need information from the wheels to assess the speed of the car to time the activation of the airbag and if it needs to be deployed in case of an accident, so the missing data from the wheel sensor could be enough to throw the airbag fault in the system. Just a thought.
Thanks Mat for carrying on with the C63 as it is one of the best sounding cars ever and of course a dying breed with the EV revolution gathering pace. ( Forgot to mention that I would love to own one)
Huge respect for the perseverance on this one! You're breaking boundaries most of us wouldn't dare to. Keep up the great work, always look forward to more videos
Why do engine designers make such complicated situations for these engines. Is it done on purpose so as at a certain point the engine has to be binned? No real longevity is planned for them? Well done Matt.
Respect for not giving up Mat! Sometimes you might have even felt it would have been better if you paid the extra for a working one as its your dream car, but very well done! Hard work has paid off!
Best TH-camr by far, I instantly stop what I’m doing and watch as soon as I get the notification. I admire how brave you are when it comes to tackling some of these jobs. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait for the next.
Another great video, I think what keeps viewers enjoying them is Your enthusiasm, nothing gets you down and I think your definitely a glass half full type of person . Keeep them coming Matt.
The scraping noise is bits of the toughened glass that is stuck in the runners, using a hook tool to scrape it out and free it up, the noise will stop once all the glass is gone.
Going back through your videos and I have to admit your dad and the new camera guy do add a lot and are missed from these although I still love these videos but just shows especially the energy your dad brings to the videos
The fault code for the passenger seat belt was an undervoltage fault due to disconnecting the battery and it was a stored code @2:36 so if you cleared the codes the airbag light would have gone off. For the range rover, the airbag module throws a "crash data stored" code after an accident which means the module has to be reset or replaced. Keep it up Mat!
if you disconnect a battery and tape the terminals together it's supposed to discharge the capacitors in the car... so a mechanic friend told me.. love the AMG.
Please don't EVER change the way you show your content. Love watching all the parts being fitted and talked through. As always, cracking video. Can't wait to see this finished 💪
I don’t know how you do it Mat. Your knowledge and patience is amazing. I can just about fit a light bulb but when I see you looking into an engine with a spaghetti junction of wires looking back at you. And you know exactly where the go. Unbelievable 😳
The 63 is an absolute money pit. But without problems, there's no content. This build is excellent and your enthusiasm to tackle the problems almost makes me want try attempt it myself. Haha Smashing it mate👍🏼
You always put everything together after replacing something before testing it (like the driver airbag several times in the last videos or in this video: mounting the subframe and AFTER that filling up the oil). Especially with second hand parts I would recommend to test it and then complete the rebuild 😊
I’m absolutely amazed at your spirt in taking things apart and successfully repairing them the but is O why in most cases like the sump job you try and start it up to see if it leaks saving you putting every thing back together 2 or 3 times it’s soul destroying. But keep it up.
This build is a labour of love Mat. Hats off to you ; don’t know how you kept going through this one , so many intricacies… can’t wait for the next episode.
On my E350 there are a couple of drainage holes on the bottom of the door. I was able to get nearly all of the broken glass out there using a stretched out coathanger. Took a long time but might be worth a try!
a couple of points, When doing sump gaskets, or any gaskets for the matter, but especially the sump ones because they are so large, try not to use RTV, and if you really need to, buy a special RTV tube from Victor Reinz that is able to leave a small RTV line ( as you don't actually need much ). The amount you've put in there is just excessive and all that excess silicone inside is going to break off and end up in the pickup tube possibly clogging the filter in there, which is bad times for you engine. Also, when putting suspension arms bolts back in and they don't quite come out the other side by just pushing them, please, but please don't hammer them in, you will most certainly damage the bolt threads and ruin your day, just get a ratchet and spin them in
I have just a curious question, i am by no means a mechanic, but when you buy a lot of your crash damaged cars you seem to strip the front end down a lot, just from this video wouldn't it be better to just take the engines out at the start and give them a good go over and clean when you can see things easier rather than having to return to things like this. Granted you thought this was fixed it is just a thought. I love your video they are awesome it is very rare i will watch a video to the end but i have watched a number of your playlists now 😁😁
I've kind of grown out of the petrol head addiction although I can admire cars and lust after them like the best of them. However, having weighed up all the M cars and AMG's etc, running costs are not the best on any of them realistically so decided to go to the "dark side" and get a Tesla Model 3 Performance which gives you all the performance needed and actually alot of fun and realistically, relatively inexpensive running costs. As a 55yr old guy, I can tell you that I admire what you're doing and the following you're building. I enjoy watching your videos very much apart from the advertising bits but I understand they're necessary. Good on you, you deserve all the success you're getting, you obviously work very hard at this and for anyone thinking it must be easy, I think if they knew just how much time and effort you are putting in to do this, most people wouldn't be bothered to try this at all. Well done,👍
Matt I'm a bit late as you've already done it but for sealing anything up use elring dirko gray sealant if you use that you will never have to do it again its much better than other general instant gasket
Mat I really think you should do a Nissan gtr next it’s got so many possibilities to kit it out and upgrade the engine and seeing you restore one or upgrading one would be amazing
crackin vid Mat...one thing I would do, refill and check for leaks before putting all the subframe and control arms back on...I'm stunned that sump doesn't need a rubber gasket, the grooves in the pan are begging for it..
Just a heads up when applying sealant on the sumps you should position the sump then screw in bolts to finger tight and just to where it’s applying pressure to the sealant then you should let it cure for 1 hour before tightening the sump bolts to torx spec
This C63 AMG is turning out to be quite a challenge, but with your positive attitude in tackling the numerous issues head on, it makes for compelling viewing. Keep up the great work!👍🔥
Great work dude. Quick tip. You should tighten any joints with bushes only when the car is in its wheels. When jacked up, you risk shearing the rubber. 👍
I have a peugeot 508 and suddenly lots of dash lights came on. Airbag, engine management and some others, and the windscreen wipers not always working. All where cleared on installation of a new wiper motor.
Been watching you since the first Mercedes then the s5 u have come along way fella, love watching ur videos, and can I say wat a talented guy you are, keep up the good videos pal
you are one lucky guy my c63 special edition developed an oil leak which was the same as yours but the top shaft not the bottom shaft , i wish i still had it , it cost me a load of money 22k but gave it to the ... shop for 11k 6 months later. i miss mine , being disa bled from a brain heammorage etc really sucks as well ..........
I also have a m156 that leaks from the upper pan… luckily it loses about a quart over the space of a year, which in fairness a v8 could eat anyway, i hope you finish this car as they are brilliant motors, a deeply flawed but loveable monster of a machine
Great stuff but don’t forget that the control arms on the bushing side must be tightened up with the car in the ground. If you did it in the did then they will be tensioned in the wrong place and wear prematurely 👍
What’s that clear sealant you’re using? I’ve never seen that before, I’ve only ever used the multiple different RTV types in grey, orange and black and Hondabond.
Great 👍🏼 job MAT AND BAD ASS RAPPING and top fix in my opinion if it works why not and plus it’s not going to move so it’s unlikely to come undone so great fix mat.
I swear I wanna be like Mat, its not a part of knowing what to do but just a part of having fun with what your doing at the end of the day. I Just discovered your channel a couple of months ago and I am impressed; keep up the good work. All the way from Namibia; hopefully I can buy the car from you one day and all that we need to work out is shipping
One of the best channels on TH-cam bloody good entertainment, look forward to the posts great content, always interesting and presented by a great guy. You’ve got a great future Matt…..
His energy and work ethic is crazy. In a good way lol. I wish I could have that energy again like I did when I was a younger man. But hey I'm doing fine. Great Stuff as usual!
I picked up my W204 from Leicester a few weeks ago. That's needs some work as well. Thought I recognised the accent straight away. We're Warwick. You're like Goonzquad, but local, love it!
Definitely the wheel speed sensor was the cause for the airbag light staying on. When there’s no communication from the sensor it will end up triggering abs airbag traction control lights as there all communicating with each other.
this car is amazing, I remember 5-6 years ago they went for 12-15k and nowadays they go for 20k ish and keep going up. By the time I can afford one they might not exist anymore :D keep up the built and can't wait to see this beast finisheddd

Now go watch @Chrisfix
Love this

his levels of optimism and resilience is contagious man. makes me wanna get up and fix everything broken around me lol. Well done Matt.

If you can't hear the noise, it doesn't exist 😂
Mat, your confidence to do this sort of work is incredible. I wish i had that level of confidence
I think I love this so much because it resonates so close to my heart because I grew up watching wheeler dealers with my grandad all my life and fixing up cars and know that If he was here today he would love this too ...

The hardest working man on TH-cam.

So many things going on! C63 in bits, battery off the Range Rover, Kevin killing a torch… love it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i had to replace the esp module recently. It needed to be programmed at benz. Was around 3000 CAD.
My C63 got crashed couple days ago, these videos make me kinda happy, great work, keep it up! :)
Going back through your videos and I have to admit your dad and the new camera guy do add a lot and are missed from these although I still love these videos but just shows especially the energy your dad brings to the videos
Always look forward to a new Mat Armstrong video, it's like a TV series now.. can't wait for the next one. Keep up the great work!
limitless optimism, graft, energy and logic = you're a force of nature Mat- well done ( again!)

the effort on this car and not giving up in getting it done is some dedication level bossman.
I thought I was hard working....but this man is relentless!
Amazing how far you have come from cosmetic and customising to working on mechanical issues. great content as always. Thanks

Hard work beats talent? It might have done once upon a time, but your talent levels have 100% reached your work ethic level now man. Absolute ledge 👊🏻

Let`s goooo Matt! I can`t wait to see this car in it`s final form. This has to be one of the smoothest engines in a Merc, I absolutely love it!
@Southern hitman If the owner of the channel doesn`t mind a simple typo, you should also move on with your life, Karen.
@Southern hitman let’s go Matt 👍🏻
This build is a labour of love Mat. Hats off to you ; don’t know how you kept going through this one , so many intricacies… can’t wait for the next episode.

Spot on that every car has drainage holes on the bottom of the door
I like the live recaps that don't use old footage.
P.S. the seat belts usually pull tight once you buckle them in on these.

Bloody hell, this thing has had you going around in circles a bit. I admire your perseverance. Top stuff mate.
Matt I'm a bit late as you've already done it but for sealing anything up use elring dirko gray sealant if you use that you will never have to do it again its much better than other general instant gasket
I might have had a finger or two crossed when you checked for leaks! Thankfully none and hope it stays that way! Loving this build.

Dirko is the best sealant I've used 👌🏾 great video brother Matt 👍🏻👊🏿

How do you remember where everything goes back, you amaze me mate. Best channel on you tube counting vthe days down until the video. Love it
The C63 is a sick build
This C63 AMG is turning out to be quite a challenge, but with your positive attitude in tackling the numerous issues head on, it makes for compelling viewing. Keep up the great work!👍🔥
Great work dude. Quick tip. You should tighten any joints with bushes only when the car is in its wheels. When jacked up, you risk shearing the rubber. 👍
i really like the energy you have doing this channel very entertaining keep up the joy of your work
great feeling when you get them lights off the dash permanently great job
Sat here now looking at buying my first c63 👀🙈 thanks Matt you’ve given me the bug! Love the videos 👍🏽
You don’t torque the bolts to spec? You should probably do that for the bottom end of the motor
Great video Mat. You’ve come such a long way since you were fixing cars on the drive. Great job 👍🏻💪🏻
you are one lucky guy my c63 special edition developed an oil leak which was the same as yours but the top shaft not the bottom shaft , i wish i still had it , it cost me a load of money 22k but gave it to the ... shop for 11k 6 months later. i miss mine , being disa bled from a brain heammorage etc really sucks as well ..........
Dear Matt I can’t get through to you anyway if I win I most probably give it to someone who needs it more then me it’s just the way I am , thank you
I will try again Matt please wait . Thank you anilkumar
That plug is the reason for abs ,airbag and other codes just like VW it happened to my VW .
Followed you for some time now, dude! I must say you have the winner instinct. Never gives up. My respect! 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I also have a m156 that leaks from the upper pan… luckily it loses about a quart over the space of a year, which in fairness a v8 could eat anyway, i hope you finish this car as they are brilliant motors, a deeply flawed but loveable monster of a machine
So expensive to do at the dealer…or anywhere 😂
Respect for your patience & commitment 👍
The only youtuber that doesn’t do cliffhangers 💯🔥🔥🔥
Oh you are going to hate my next video 😂😂
Great stuff but don’t forget that the control arms on the bushing side must be tightened up with the car in the ground. If you did it in the did then they will be tensioned in the wrong place and wear prematurely 👍
Matt you have the patience of a angel after the first strip down id have gave up
I have Nothing but Admiration for all your hard work!!👍
One piece of adcive when u checking new kick plug it dont put all trims on test than put it all togheder saves u a lot of time :)
Love when mat uploads
What’s that clear sealant you’re using? I’ve never seen that before, I’ve only ever used the multiple different RTV types in grey, orange and black and Hondabond.
I like this build Mat!
Amazing how much you can do now, compared from the start. I thought this build would be a really tough one, gonna be great when it's finished. 🤞
Love the C63 really enjoying the progress ❤
I see the yellow lambo in the background 👀
I felt your stress in this episode keep your head up nearly there .
Surely a glossy yellow for paint or that black on the bonnet. Keep up the amazing vids!
Great 👍🏼 job MAT AND BAD ASS RAPPING and top fix in my opinion if it works why not and plus it’s not going to move so it’s unlikely to come undone so great fix mat.

One word..... Legend. Progress is progress Mat.
After all the work on this one you’ve got to do something mental with the paint!
I picked up my W204 from Leicester a few weeks ago. That's needs some work as well. Thought I recognised the accent straight away. We're Warwick. You're like Goonzquad, but local, love it!

Mat you have the patience of a Saint! Just love your channel and your videos are so well put together keep doing what you do👍😀
Man I missed the AMG build!! Ty Mat!
Zambian 🇿🇲 fan here again.. Awesome video... Beautiful silver arrow there..
What an amazing journey, through all the videos, genuinely a talented lad, who can turn his hand to any challenge, keep it up. 🙌
I only found your channel a couple of weeks ago and im loving it Mat! You seem like such a humble har working lad, keep it up mate.
