    Thanks for this vid. I have been camping for years, but I just never used a percolator for coffee ever. I always go instant coffee or cowboy coffee. But I been thinking a percolator for a larger camp group. This vid was simple and straight to the point and convinced me to get one.

    I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who had trouble getting the label off of the percolator, I have a similar one and I use it on the stove when I want really nicely percolated coffee at home. This video had some great tips for water to grinds ratio (I tend to add too many and end up with grinds in my coffee, this is good to know) and how long to have it on the fire. Thanks for the info!

    For perkers without the clip a few twist bends(crimps I suppose) with a pliers to the lip of the lid so it fits snugly inside the pot worked to fix my perker's loose lid. Very slight crimps until I snuck up on it. This also works for farm style mailbox doors that fall open randomly,just don't make it so tight the mailman has to fight with it. :)

    Good thing I learned how to keep the coffee ground cap down on the ground holder is cut the ends down on a wooden clothes pin and it pinches around the percolator pipe perfectly.

    Personally I prefer cowboy coffee just grounds and water boiled with cold water added in to settle out. It also uses a percolator pot however I completely remove the percolating apparatus. I think it tastes better but that's me. If you're interested cowboy Kent Rollins has a video on this

    • @CrimsonRaven51

      Bilinmek Istemiyor Add the coffee grounds to the pot of water and bring it to a boil. Take it off the fire and add a little cold water to make the coffee grounds settle to the bottom. Then pour yourself a nice cup of cowboy coffee without a cup full of coffee grounds. Learned that from Cowboy Kent Rollins, Chuck Wagon Master. Head em up, move em out.

    Semper Fi, brother. I’ve made many pots of percolated coffee in the field. Started in 29 Palms after suffering instant MRE coffee in Saudi and never went back. Well, truth be told I do like Folgers tea bag coffee much better than instant in a pinch, but percolating coffee is the shit. Ooh rah.

  • @NayNayNV
    @NayNayNV 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tear a small square from a napkin or papertowl and put in the percolator before putting in the beans and that catches a lot of the grounds. When camping I may bring some small filters that fit in the percolator. Tried making it without a filter and just don't care for that many grounds.

    It should be ok to use water from a fresh stream for percolator coffee, right? I mean, the water does get boiled in the process of percolating, so I don’t see why not. If I’m wrong, though, let me know. Last thing I want is catching some water-borne illness.

    • @EstesRanch
      @EstesRanch  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically, the coffee water isn’t a rolling boil. When we make coffee, we bring right up to the point of boiling. Rolling boil is when water boils for a few minutes.

    • @Sidewayz_SuperNova
      @Sidewayz_SuperNova 4 ปีที่แล้ว
