You forgot to mention also, in the show "Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated", there is an episode where there are two large ape like monsters who look like 'Sanda' and 'Gaira'. The episode is titled: *Battle of the Humungonauts.* It also features few other Easter eggs to the film.
My guess for how they can appear in the MonsterVerse: The Gargantuas are descendants of Australopithecus, and are thus the only Titans that are related to humans. Their designs can be based on various prehistoric humans as well as apes such as chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans. There were two types of Gargantuas that once lived during the Pliocene to Pleistocene Epoch: Sea Gargantuas (based on the aquatic ape theory) and Mountain Gargantuas (based on stories of Bigfoot and one theory that stated that Bigfoot could be descended from prehistoric humans) before they become extinct, leaving Gaira and Sanda to be the last of their kinds. Gaira: A carnivorous Gargantua that feeds on other animals, but has recently fed on humans. He was the inspiration for Grendel from the legend of Beowulf and trolls in Norse and Scandinavian mythology as well as sightings of the Honey Island Swamp Monster. Some Monarch scientists also gave Gaira the nickname "Caliban", after the Shakespeare character from The Tempest. This movie always hit me differently than other kaiju movies like Godzilla; it was more... unsettling. All the Godzilla movies I'd seen when I was younger felt a lot more impersonal: Godzilla and Co. would stomp and blast cities into kindling and were far more destructive, but all you ever saw were the miniature models of buildings being demolished. The monsters rarely interacted directly with the human characters, but in 'War of the Gargantuas' you see one of them just plucking up screaming people left and right and devouring them. That was always far more upsetting to me than simply watching kaiju demolishing buildings and fighting one another, and it's always stuck out in my mind for that reason.
Legend says the undersea volcano at the end of War of the Gargantuas that perished Sanda and Gaira was Godzilla himself, saying "Shut up!" to the Gargantuas while having a beauty sleep under the ocean.
That's a nice example of two different creatures that are brothers, but do not have the same behaviors and personnality. It's like me and my bro in the past when we were arguing viviously about stupid things...hehe. Good video, as usual, and thanks for your narration, Daphne!

So I’m watching Destroy All Monsters and I just had a thought. Seeing as how they originally wanted Gaira and Sanda in DAM, however, would using stock footage be out of the question? Hear me out In the scene where the military launches an assault on Mt. Fuji in an attempt to find the Kilaak base, it’s night time. Godzilla and Anguirus both defended the area, but why not use stock footage to insert Gaira, at the very least? With his brawl with the military in the Gargantuas movie, he could’ve easily been inserted into the battle, throwing the tanks and fighting the Mazers. Being smaller in size compared to the other Kaiju, they easily could’ve cut his scene when he falls into the electrified river and the JSDF/UNSC could’ve said they “at least killed one of the Kaiju during the battle”. It doesn’t seem too entirely impossible to do.
Another Fun; The scene where the Green gargantua kidnapped the singing girl is reenacted within one of the newer Scoobie Doo episodes with the song and everything else. In fact that whole episode was an homage to this amazing Japanese film! 😁.

Honestly, the gargantuas are weak because they can’t handle maser cannons very well, but they fill it in with their ability to create another one of them from a piece of severed flesh. This fact alone makes them a good match to any Kaiju who can’t melt flesh
Me and my sister used to have nightmares about these two especially the green one the way he spits out the hair of the people...i still love the music very dramatic soundtrack
Although I don't like remakes in the science fiction / monster movie genre I do like them with the hyperrealism of the creatures making them more believable instead of cultish classics as in the past. When I was young the Battle of the Gargantuans scared me but then realism wasn't the end all. I think now days the movie may have to be R rated due to the eating of humans and it's lifelike qualities. Anyway it would be an interesting recreation to see these creatures redone to modern standards using CGI.
Would be cool. My guess is that the Gargantuas will be one of the youngest Titans, but instead of being "clones" of Frankenstein's monster (which I don't think will be incorporated into the MonsterVerse due to being too similar to the disastrous and now dead (?) Dark Universe), they are natural humanoid creatures that date back from the Ice Age and are evolutionary offshoots from the lineage that will give rise to humans (Gaira himself will also be partially based on the aquatic ape theory). Gaira will be identified as the inspiration for Grendel in the story of Beowulf while Sanda will be identified as the creature behind sightings of Bigfoot (in one scene for this hypothetical Legendary reboot, Sanda will be shown doing the Patterson-Gimlin footage walk at one point). Their new designs will also be based on prehistoric humans (e.g. Australopithecus, Homo erectus, and Neanderthals) as well as chimpanzees and orangutans. This Toho masterpiece is a movie of two dimensions. A vague sequel and or standalone. They where still called Frankenstein Monsters as Frankenstein vs. Baragon is never mentioned but vague illustrations are made with Russ Tamblyn playing a similar Character of Nick Adams and Kumi Mizuno returning. Instead of Godzilla,Godzilla, Godzilla. Toho made another movie outside of Big-G and did it worked. Though the plot is closer to Abel and Kane. It has much more of a grotesque origin of Frankenstein giving life to Sanda as the filmed yet disturbing and out of water scene of the Devil Fish(giant octopus) challenging, fighting and possibly consuming Frankenstein. I would love to see another Gargantua vs. Godzilla movie which sadly did not make it to production.
It would be cool to see Sanda and Gaira in the Monsterverse. Have Kong find them and take them under his wing to be protectors (though Gaira would still be an asshole).
Okay, so I LOVE this movie. Well, specifically the Japanese version. My favorite moment in the whole movie is the phone call made to Dr. Stewart after the boat attack in the opening of the movie. The conversation is as follows... Dr. Stewart: Hello? This is Dr. Stewart... yes... (look of confusion) You didn't find Frankenstein in the ocean. Goodbye. Then he just hangs up on the guy! 🤣 I don't know? The way he comes off so inconvenienced at such a claim. Just deadpan the whole time and just hangs up is hilarious to me. I don't know if Russ Tamblyn is/was a good actor, but here... he was god AWFUL! Yet, the movie is still great. I think the monsters look great and their fight in the city is awesome! I'd DEFINITELY love to see Gaira and Sanda as part of Warner's MonsterVerse. Speaking of which... I have a WAY out there idea. Let's say that Monarch finds a single heavily irradiated HUGE 85m decaying corpse in The Himalayas. An attempted extraction is made, but fails and the body is lost to Lake Manasarovar in the attempt. Further attempts are abandoned due to the sacred area of which it was found. Zebra fish that inhabit the lake feed off the corpse. It being irradiated causes a mutation that accelerates the "real world" regenerative properties of the fish. The fish are poisoned nonetheless and die, but due to the mutation their cells live on and link with the corpse, the cells rapidly spread and the process of regeneration begins for Gaira who will acclimate to the conditions of water! Animals that can traverse land and water carry off flesh that is ongoing with the regenerative properties and, much like the hand in Frankenstein Conquers The World, the flesh begins to come to life and those that ingest it die as it it carried and ultimately ending it's journey high into the mountains. Soon Sanda is born acclimating to the conditions of the mountains!
Travis Marshall Russ Tamblyn was one of the main stars in WEST SIDE STORY, so he _was_ pretty good at one time. I suspect that he didn’t act well in WotG because, like Nick Adams, he knew his career was on the ropes.
This a has been a recent thought of mine, but maybe creating Sanda wasn't needed. He has basically the same backstory as Frankenstein, a similar enough personality and the more popular Gargantua is Gaira anyway. So they could have doubled down on War of the Gargantuas being a sequel by using Frankenstein in Sanda's role and instead of creating Akemi and Paul Stewart reuse Sueko and James Bowen. Or if Sanda needed to be created Ishiro Honda could have commited to making this a standalone like he wanted to, giving Sanda and Gaira different origins, like them being types of giant apes or both being experiments created by humans to do a nature vs nuture experiment (as soon as he's born Gaira is left in the wild while Sanda is chosen to be the one raised with love and kindness by humans) What sounds like a better direction?

I exited that the complete Godman and Greenman are finally being released early next year.
I use to love this movie when i was a kid, Though it scared the crap out of me sometimes lol.
Me and my sister used to have nightmares about these two especially the green one the way he spits out the hair of the people...i still love the music very dramatic soundtrack

Although I don't like remakes in the science fiction / monster movie genre I do like them with the hyperrealism of the creatures making them more believable instead of cultish classics as in the past. When I was young the Battle of the Gargantuans scared me but then realism wasn't the end all. I think now days the movie may have to be R rated due to the eating of humans and it's lifelike qualities. Anyway it would be an interesting recreation to see these creatures redone to modern standards using CGI.

LEGENDARY WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS CONFIRMED FOR 2022... I wish
Would be cool. My guess is that the Gargantuas will be one of the youngest Titans, but instead of being "clones" of Frankenstein's monster (which I don't think will be incorporated into the MonsterVerse due to being too similar to the disastrous and now dead (?) Dark Universe), they are natural humanoid creatures that date back from the Ice Age and are evolutionary offshoots from the lineage that will give rise to humans (Gaira himself will also be partially based on the aquatic ape theory). Gaira will be identified as the inspiration for Grendel in the story of Beowulf while Sanda will be identified as the creature behind sightings of Bigfoot (in one scene for this hypothetical Legendary reboot, Sanda will be shown doing the Patterson-Gimlin footage walk at one point). Their new designs will also be based on prehistoric humans (e.g. Australopithecus, Homo erectus, and Neanderthals) as well as chimpanzees and orangutans.
Designations (they will be given the new designation "Gargantua" to differentiate them from other Titans):
Gaira: Gargantua Grendel
Sanda: Gargantua Sasquatch

and because godzilla fights both of them at once, and because their literally giant apes that godzilla defeated , thats why godzilla would beat kong

This Toho masterpiece is a movie of two dimensions. A vague sequel and or standalone.
They where still called Frankenstein Monsters as Frankenstein vs. Baragon is never mentioned but vague illustrations are made with Russ Tamblyn playing a similar Character of Nick Adams and Kumi Mizuno returning.
Instead of Godzilla,Godzilla, Godzilla. Toho made another movie outside of Big-G and did it worked.
Though the plot is closer to Abel and Kane.
It has much more of a grotesque origin of Frankenstein giving life to Sanda as the filmed yet disturbing and out of water scene of the Devil Fish(giant octopus) challenging, fighting and possibly consuming Frankenstein.
I would love to see another Gargantua vs. Godzilla movie which sadly did not make it to production.

It would be cool to see Sanda and Gaira in the Monsterverse. Have Kong find them and take them under his wing to be protectors (though Gaira would still be an asshole).
The gargantuas are my favorite non godzilla Kaiju right up there with Rodan and Mothra

Okay, so I LOVE this movie. Well, specifically the Japanese version. My favorite moment in the whole movie is the phone call made to Dr. Stewart after the boat attack in the opening of the movie. The conversation is as follows...
Dr. Stewart: Hello? This is Dr. Stewart... yes... (look of confusion) You didn't find Frankenstein in the ocean. Goodbye.
Then he just hangs up on the guy! 🤣
I don't know? The way he comes off so inconvenienced at such a claim. Just deadpan the whole time and just hangs up is hilarious to me. I don't know if Russ Tamblyn is/was a good actor, but here... he was god AWFUL! Yet, the movie is still great. I think the monsters look great and their fight in the city is awesome! I'd DEFINITELY love to see Gaira and Sanda as part of Warner's MonsterVerse.
Speaking of which...
I have a WAY out there idea. Let's say that Monarch finds a single heavily irradiated HUGE 85m decaying corpse in The Himalayas. An attempted extraction is made, but fails and the body is lost to Lake Manasarovar in the attempt. Further attempts are abandoned due to the sacred area of which it was found. Zebra fish that inhabit the lake feed off the corpse. It being irradiated causes a mutation that accelerates the "real world" regenerative properties of the fish. The fish are poisoned nonetheless and die, but due to the mutation their cells live on and link with the corpse, the cells rapidly spread and the process of regeneration begins for Gaira who will acclimate to the conditions of water!
Animals that can traverse land and water carry off flesh that is ongoing with the regenerative properties and, much like the hand in Frankenstein Conquers The World, the flesh begins to come to life and those that ingest it die as it it carried and ultimately ending it's journey high into the mountains. Soon Sanda is born acclimating to the conditions of the mountains!
Travis Marshall Russ Tamblyn was one of the main stars in WEST SIDE STORY, so he _was_ pretty good at one time.
I suspect that he didn’t act well in WotG because, like Nick Adams, he knew his career was on the ropes.
I remember watching this back in the 70's and 80's on The 4:30 Movie WABC Channel 7 NY. Still my favorite of the Toho monster movies.

This a has been a recent thought of mine, but maybe creating Sanda wasn't needed. He has basically the same backstory as Frankenstein, a similar enough personality and the more popular Gargantua is Gaira anyway. So they could have doubled down on War of the Gargantuas being a sequel by using Frankenstein in Sanda's role and instead of creating Akemi and Paul Stewart reuse Sueko and James Bowen.
Or if Sanda needed to be created Ishiro Honda could have commited to making this a standalone like he wanted to, giving Sanda and Gaira different origins, like them being types of giant apes or both being experiments created by humans to do a nature vs nuture experiment (as soon as he's born Gaira is left in the wild while Sanda is chosen to be the one raised with love and kindness by humans)

Although I have only seen this film 2, possibly 3 times, I have always felt that this movie is a hidden gem of the Kaiju genre.

War of the Gargantuans is one of my favorite monster movies.
I remember my uncle would talk about this movie and how they where made by Godzilla's creators, it blew my mind when he talked about it.
