  • My check engine light came on and the code reader said code P0141. I then go through a diagnosis process and replace the oxygen sensor, which fixes the engine light issue and allowed me to pass smog testing.

I’m a Honda technician and have worked on them for 3 years now, but I generally work on newer Honda’s.
When I got asked to replace the downstream o2 sensor on a 03 accord, I looked up the instructions on sis (Honda’s online instruction manual basically) the instructions were useless. This video saved me a half hour of guessing where to be pulling trim/carpet and trying to figure out where the connector ended up!
Great resource, even for trained technicians.

Thank you for a meticulously recorded video. I went over it 3 or 4 times and mustered up the courage to order all the necessary parts and tools (pretty cheap off Amazon). Saw this video one last time and went in and replaced the downstream O2 sensor on my 05 Honda Accord LX. No more check engine light!

Did you erase the check engine light or once the new sensor is plug the check engine light goes off automatically?? I just changed upstream and downstream sensor but light still on, I tried to erase the CEL, but it comes on again after 3 seconds... my sensors are muralist by the way🤔

A couple of more tips. Swap the clips over directly to the new sensor with the two laid out side by side and put them in the same locations before installing the new one.
Remove the four bolts that hold down the passenger front seat. You can then tip it forward completely and it will make it much easier, only takes a couple of minutes.
Rest is real good and you need the crows foot which you can rent.

FYI ... I found out today that accidentally leaving one of the hoses on the intake near the air filter disconnected after changing the air filter will throw the exact code for this bank1 sensor2 O2 sensor failure
my torque app said the light was on for 'o2 sensor slow to respond' ... instantly fixed by fixing the disconnected hose on the side of the intake tube
if you have this code for bank1 sensor 2, first check all of the hoses that attach to the intake before digging into this O2 sensor repair - especially if you've recently had the air filter out
if writing this helps at least one person it's worth it

@@prairiepanda I pulled back the carpet to expose the connector. The problem then was it is anchored to the floor making it impossible to reach. So, have to admit, I just ripped the anchor out of the floor. Its plastic and you can break it. I bought a Bosch O2 sensor at O-Rielly's and that was a big mistake, because it did not include the female plug, and if you do not follow the directions perfectly, it doesn't work, and that is what happened to me. The wire was too short, because the Bosch didn't provide enough cable on the sensor to reach the catalytic converter, (you had to cut and use the old cable, so they could save money, but I ended up getting screwed out of the $50 I spent and had to buy another one. Also doing research I found that Bosch often fails with Honda'a and you have replace the sensor again.

It is, with the proper tools and know-how. Some cars vary, like this one for instance, but with most cars you dont have to go inside of the cabin at all to change an O2 sensor. There are some cars that have them in difficult to reach places but they all have threads on one side and clips on the other so its just following the cable, remove it then reverse the process to install

The car uses info from the O2 sensor to adjust fuel rich/leanness. If it's not working, your car may run extra rich which hurts your gas mileage (if your car runs lean it can damage the engine from overheating as the cylinders are igniting way too hot).

My car is also California emmisions, the only difference is the price of the senor. California sensor was 160.00 and the regular on was 90.00.

You'll have to drive it around for a bit for the computer to run all of its tests again. You MAY need to reset the code first, I can't remember off the top of my head. I think it was about 100 miles or so before the computer had performed all of its tests. It needs to be a mix of driving, city/highway. You can look up the procedure.

@@clintathusaz I had this fault come up on my car, but it disappeared the next day. I recently changed pump to Sheetz just before i got the engine light, i wonder if their substandard fuel is causing it.

You have to reset the check engine light, through either an OBDII device or by simply removing the negative terminal of your car battery for 30 seconds and putting it back (car looses all its memory, make sure you have your radio code etc.). If you did a good job with replacing the O2 sensor the check engine light should not come back, at least for that reason.

Tell him two minutes into it and bank 1 sensor 2 would be single exhaust Downstream and for 2 exhaust manifold or headers with two catalytic converters bank one would be driver side and bank 2 would be passenger side and sensor 1 and 3 is always Upstream while Sensor 2 and 4 are always Downstream...
You have circled in your thumbnail image for the video actually the wrong sensor you have sensor 1 Upstream Circle I hope that's not what you're about to replace because that would be a PO420 code 4 sensor 1 your sensor to should be Downstream after the cat meaning on the rear side of the cat sensor 1 is always ahead of the cat or ofcourse on the cat... hey I don't know which sense are you actually replace all I know is you have the wrong one Circled here up on your thumbnail so let's see what happens... okay so updating my comment you did the same thing everybody else does you just point to the one-year changing you don't differentiate anything else so in other words you're making it look like there's only one and it just confuses people and quite honestly when people are looking for other videos some of us know that it doesn't matter what car it is if it's the same kind of setup it'll be close to the same but I'm like okay if that's sensor 2 wear sensor 1 it would be nice if the hundreds of you that make these videos could differentiate stuff like that
