Importantly, and I pointed this in the episode, do not be put off, they are great bikes and I would buy another in a heartbeat. My issues are def not typical or critical to be honest.
Wonder what the percentage of complaints to the number of RN's sold is. I have a 2022 Himi and a 2023 Classic 350. Replaced fuel pump on the Himi and Speedo on the 350 all under warranty and each replaced within a few days. Over 3000 miles on each and have yet to find any issues with the build quality. Came. from aprox 15 BMW's which were great bikes but not anywhere the fun or recognition I get with the RN's. Couldn't be happier.
Bought the stealth black model myself back in January and have found no quality issues (but i will be checking my brake pedal and side covers) and yeah they ride great.
If I recall well, in the maintenance manual they suggest to cover commodo switch and protect what's inside both compartments (tool kit, manual, etc.) before washing.. .I assume it is also vulnerable under rain! I have the same but with alloy wheels, haven't check for those issues yet, but I'll keep an eye on it!
A few comments, I'm on my 3rd Classic 350, love em, and other than the usual speedo problem on the early models mine have been 100% reliable. That battery box will get replaced under warranty along with the plastic casing, the lock on them is good and shouldn't take the paint off, this can happen on any new bike regardless of manufacturer. Brake pedal, the paint is applied over the chrome as added protection particularly where there are welds etc. It will be on your gear lever too under the rubber sleeve. On models where the exhaust is chrome it can be found there also. This is no different to other manufacturers including Yamaha and Honda. They are built to a price - aren't all bikes? I'd argue that in terms of build quality that RE shines above many manufacturers iin terms of build quality and pound for pound value for money. I've had 7 new Enfields since 2020 (you could say I'm a bit of an RE junkie!) and beside the Classic I'm on my 3rd Meteor 350, prior to that ive had around 10 new Hondas and each one had its issues relating to rust, recalls for Crankshaft replacement, gearbox mainshafts etc. etc. In my experience the RE is streets ahead in the way they are screwed together and the quality of parts used. Their factory in Chenai is now recognised as one of the most modern and advanced manufacturers plant globally. Wait till around a 1,000 miles and you'll notice a marked improvement in performance as the engine starts to loosen up and by 2,000 miles it will be a different bike. If you crave a bit more mid range grunt for overtakes fit a stage 2 DNA Filter kit, nice cheapish mod that does make a difference. In the meantime just enjoy! The only known weakness on the bikes are the wheel spokes, here Royal Enfield have penny pinched and not used Stailess Steel as on the Interceptor, at the first sign of winter get plenty of corrosion protection on them as they do tarnish and corrode easily. They do clean up nicely but can be a bit of a ball ache bringing them back to new, if that concerns you of course. All the best and enjoy your new ride.🙂👍🎉🎉
My sentiments exactly, I could not have articulated this better myself and that's why i'm keeping it. All bikes have issues and yes it will get resolved and i will continue to enjoy the bike for what it is. Thanks for the tips re the week spots from a winter riding perspective. I have plenty of AC50 i nthe garage so will be applying that generously where required.
Why have you owned so many Meteors? If they're so good why have you needed three? When a motorcycle has 50,000 miles it is just then getting into the range of proving it has longevity. Saying a motorcycle is really reliable with less than 20,000 miles is premature.
As I mentioned in the episode, i'm not put off in the slightest. I have purchased much higher priced bikes in the past with worse issues. I had a BMW 1200 scrambler where the speedo failed after three weeks. Took them nearly five months to source and fit a new one. The dealership was fantastic though and did kit me out with new trousers and jacket free of charge and I know quite a few people who have had similar issues over the years. You can get 350 Meteors at some dealers in the UK at the moment for £2,999.00 plus on the road costs now thats a cheap bike.
Had my classic for two years now. Heard about the chroming issue when I was first researching them. Luckily mine checked out except being a very early model I did have the speedo issue but that got sorted immediately, actually installed while I waited. I've found the local dealer in SoCal to be very easy to work with. They are a Ducati/Triumph dealer also so they have high standards. If you are interested in a few quality of life upgrades I can highly recommend the DNA air filter and the FuelX Lite module. Those really smoothed out the midrange and for me the bike just revved more freely. It runs cooler too. I also added the Hitchcocks De-Cat pipe and Kent cam. The cam made a HUGE difference. I can actually get out on the freeways and not fear for my life. I just ordered up the Hunter throttle body to get rid of the speed limiter. Please don't take that I didn't like the bike as is but in the Los Angeles area freeways are a must to get anywhere nice to ride and the psychos drive 75+ mph. We don't have all those beautiful country lanes like you do out there. Cheers from SoCal 🏖
I have a 2023 Classic 350. Great ride, but it has a duff speedometer. Cleaned the contacts twice, which solved the problem temporarily. Returned to the dealer for a warranty replacement. Seems to be a not-uncommon problem.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to make this video. I am wondering whether you will be changing the tyres as you intend to ride your classic through the Winter. I guess it's early days right now but I would live to read your tyre thoughts in due course.
I guess it depends as I might actually do some mods to take it greenlaning. A few choices there but for all year standard riding something in the Heidenau K60's range are a pretty decent at a reasonable cost.
After I watched your video, then went out to the garage to check my classic. And whadaya ya know? Exactly the same, side panel issue! The plastic battery box is not strong enough to properly support the weight and the mounting bracket seems to be slightly out of position so when tightened it pulls the box out of shape. 😢
as an retired qa inspector of many years and a former bike and car mechanic and the owner of a meteor and a classic, love them both, i have a pre ride proceedure after collecting the bike from the showroom, as they are such good value bikes something has to be missed during production to keep production costs down, my latest one, the classic, like yours, has a big gap at the front of the battery cover but the moulding fits everywhere else so i just stuck some draft excluder on the inside of the cover and my charger flying lead exits there, a lot of the problems come from production line building where alot of the parts are sub assembled prior to fitting, on both of my bikes the rear mudguards were out of line, a small amout of grease was on the rear axle but the front ones were dry built, some of the cables were wrongly routed and there is no anti sieze compund on the brake pad pins or sliding points, i sorted all the iffy bits myself without bothering the dealer, my missus thinks i'm a bit OCD, whatever that is, my first enfield was an interceptor in 2019 and in my opinion the lack of antisieze compound on the calliper parts led to a calliper recall eventually, mine never suffered the problem as i don't ride in winter and i had it 3 years, the calliper recall was only carried out by the next owner, hope this helps.
Super feedback, and a pragmatic approach for getting the fixes done yourself, which is where Im headed to be honest. I will check the other areas you mentioned, because I'm also a little OCD when it comes to my bikes but then I think we are not alone. I know not everyone agrees but I would be much happier doing it myself and knowing its been done properly.
I directly went to my garage to see I my bike has the same issues... Only the footrest has the same as yours but I did not noticed until I saw your video. After driven about 10 different singel cylinder bikes, I defently can tell, this is the most smooth en comfortable one! Stay away from the highway and you will find yourself the ideal motorcycle. Goes around the corners, scratching your foot pegs can happen. Although I'm curious to know how it handles with more sticky tires. I do have a second bike a Suzuki drz400 wich I did not touched for a long time!
I totally agree, I have no regrets making the purchase and it makes me smile everytime I go out on it. I will get the issues sorted and enjoy the bike for what it is.
Had a test ride on one & found the gear lever was too low when wearing sensible riding boots. Not a simple adjustment. You need to dismantle a portion of the frame. Y not factory do that?
Yes, that is a common issue for some people. Mine was fine, so no adjustment needed. Its not as difficult to do as you might think. You don't have to dismantle the frame as such its more of a case of loosening off the peg mounts to get the gear lever free and clear. Some might take them off completely but its not required. There are a ton of TH-cam Vids on it.
Sorry to hear that your Classic 350 is not upto scratch. I bought my red and chrome Classic new in July 2022. Its my only bike which i use for commuting to work and exploring the back roads of Northumberland where I live. I have had no mechanical issues and have over 8300 miles on the clock. Every day I enjoy riding this bike. Regarding the side panel on your bike , it looks like damage has been caused. Hopefully your dealer will sort it and get it rectified. Then you can enjoy your bike.
Still enjoying the bike, I will not let the issue cloud what is otherwise a great little bike for my meanderings around the country backroads. Glad to here you're racking up trouble free miles.
I have the same model and colour. I'm really happy with my one, i don't have any of the issues you have. I think you've just been unlucky. Be interesting to see how your dealer deals with the issue and how quickly it's resolved.
Just a note on minor issues. My intercepter had serious relay problems, usual cutting out etc. However, mine continued even when I'd fitted the recommend relays from Hitchcock's. I loved the bike and had spent buckets of money on the bike in accessories, but being stranded in the middle of the North Yorkshire Moors did it for me so it had to go. All the dealership ever did was replaced the relays for the same cheep Indian relays that failed time and time again. Lovely bike but not reliable enough for me and the same issues still exist on new Enfield's.
It's frustrating when a manufacturer, could solve a regular occurring issue with what is a simple fix. It sound like there was more to your issue than just a relay but disappointing all the same.
@@robwilkguitar4458 that is not a typical problem with Enfields and after the second time if i were the dealer i would probably be looking for a problem elsewhere probably in one of the switch sets-on the handlebars
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3vI did read a few years ago that the RE factory were applying a white grease in and around the relay sockets on the Interceptor and this was causing the symptoms you have experienced of intermittent cutting out. With relays removed, the bases need to to be 'washed out' with BCE ( brake, clutch, electrical cleaner ) and original relays replaced.
Upon the roads of green and gray, Where the Royal Enfield Classic lay, I ventured forth with eager eye, To sing its praise beneath the sky. With lines so fine, in vintage grace, It stood, a noble steed in place. Its thumping heart, a rhythmic beat, Echoing through the winding street. As Wordsworth wandered dales serene, I rode, with Classic, in between. Through fields of gold and meadows fair, Its timeless charm filled the air. With every twist and turn we take, A journey borne for old times' sake. In every hill, in every glen, The Classic proves its worth again. So let me sing, with heart elate, Of Royal Enfield's Classic 350, great. A modern marvel, yet with soul, In nature's embrace, it finds its goal. 😊
My 2024 350 classic is exactly the same with the rear brake pedal, the lhside footrest and the rhs side panel. To secure the side panel, hook the bottom over the plastic at the bottom of the panel, make sure the the keyway lines up and give the top of the panel a tap with the palm of the hand to engage the locking mechanism, this should seal the bottom, as there is a neoprene seal around the inside of the panel. So I think all the bikes have the same issues and replacing bits will not solve them.
So given the comments I have had it looks like these issues are more common than you might think. Good tip, re the side box. I will give that a try and see shuts, locks and seals well enough. I will reply bike as an update and if it works I will include it in the next update and give you a shout out. Cheers.
@paulhiggins2223. Your tip regarding closing the side box with this issue, is workable and I did manage to get it to close. The misalignment on my bike is a way off and although it closes it looks like it might put some additional strain on the hinge plate, which as you probably know is screws directly into the plastic cowling itself and so I don't want that to also become an issue. But certainly if anyone has a slight misalignment it is indeed a workable resolution so thats for pointing that out. I will be demonstrating this is an update episode so hopefully it might help someone in future.
Just been and checked mine. Theres about a 5mm continuous gap. The lock is ok and fits wel Chrome footrest is fine. I would suggest you ask your dealer to change the plastic ele tricalbox and rh side lid etc. These are sub standard parts on your bike in my opinion. Hope this helps Regards Mike N
I hope the problems get fixed in good time. I've had my Signals Marsh Grey coming up 5 months and so far no issues. I checked the same places after watching your video and they seem fine (hardly any chrome or silver on the Signals - mostly all black). Enjoy the summer on your RE and ride safe!
Don't worry about the missing paint on the levers. I purshased a heeltoe lever and it's similar in finish, however, it is clear to see this is a thin layer of metallic paint.
Very nice video. I am interested in this bike and have subscribed to your channel in hopes of a satisfactory resolution and follow up. I'm in the US but love watching the British reviews on the Royal Enfield. Thank you and all the best!
Hopefully this issue is resolved. Definitely an issue with quality control. Possibly the plastic housing is deformed/ twisted. One of front indicators were deformed in the plastic, I have since changed to the LED ones. Interested to hear how you get on with the dealer. Would this not be picked up when they pdi the bike?
Hello Norfolk Rider, great to have a nice new fresh channel to support 😊. I have a Classic 350 in Gunmetal Grey. In 45 years of biking, I, too have had every genre of bike (with the exception of perhaps sports bikes). In 18 months I've covered over 3000 miles on "Ernie" which is probably twice what I'd normally do and this speaks volumes. With the exception of motorways and fast A roads the Classic 350 is a true - go anywhere motorcycle. It's the accessibility which makes it so good. I've explored so many local lanes which I wouldn't have attempted on any other bike. You're never worried about the road deteriorating or being stuck and unable to turn round. Add in the comfort, economy and cheap insurance and these bikes make even more sense in the real world. Apart from the speedo, a rear wheel which was changed under warranty due to a poor weld and the occasional engine light (which self- clears) it's been utterly dependable. I'm looking forward to more videos about the 1959 Enfield and perhaps the Speed Twin too. On Friday I'm picking up a 2017 T120 and having had a T100 previously, I'm looking forward to it very much. The T120 is for longer trips with my wife. Although the 350 is very capable two-up, for longer distances with a pillion, the T120 will be better if we've got a few miles to munch.
I totally agree with everything you have said. It feels rock solid on the road and where I live some of those roads are a little sketchy. I have nicknamed mine "Ernie" also as my speed twin is called "Bert". I can certainly look at doing a few episodes on my other bikes if that's what subscribers want. Happy riding.
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3v That's amazing! Our Ernie is a keeper for obvious reasons. The tank on the T120 is empty. Not payday till Friday - but Ernie has a full tank 😉
Yes as you say points 1 and 2 you can live with.... but the battery box is a definite no no.... I would certainly expect that to be refitted in it's entirety.... does rather look and sound like a Friday afternoon Monday morning assembly error.... Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more posts
I'm sure this is going to be a simple fix, I have had good look around and everything else looks and feels fine. I will be doing an update so keep a lookout for that.
A great insight hopefully you’ll get a good result and service off your dealership this is when you find out what they are truly like🙏☺️😀 hope all goes well well it’s a budget bike but sounds amazing I’d buy one👍
I have been to the dealer and there will be an update episode shortly. As I have mentioned in other comments. I love the bike. A few niggles yes but I have known people with bikes costing more than three times the price with more worrying issues.
The dealer should get that sorted out...Timescale might be an issue with a replacement box although motgb is no longer dealing with Royal Enfield is a plus. I had the classic 2019 500 stealth black. It went well through a UK winter but the exhaust rusted badly...I would recommend an extra coat of something good on that.
nice video, i stopped it to get a cup of coffee, and relaxed and very much enjoyed, i have the gun metal grey, not a fan of polishing my bikes, again liked the video , will keep watching , and waiting on the next video thanks
I’ve had the 350 classic chrome in red and the meteor 350 I didn’t have a problem with the loose footpegs as I never took a passenger so the pegs were always up 😊 I have a speed twin 1200 now and a new T100 I’m definitely interested in the new Guerilla 450 looking forward to road testing that my dealer has just had a couple delivered this morning I’m very impressed with the fit and finish but will have to wait for a demo ride before going any further
Both Triumphs are winners for sure, love my Speed Twin 900. The Guerilla looks an interesting, not sure if RE are just bringing out too many bikes that crossover, but time will tell.
Greetings from the state of Pennsylvania USA & a proud owner of a Royal Enfield 2020 red frame Trials 500 Replica. My bike is issue free and the quality is superb. Thanks for posting the video of the 350. I have been riding bikes over here in the states for 56 yrs & owned many bikes. The Royal Enfield company is beginning to show the same signs as Harley Davidson bikes built in the 1970's. At that time they decided to make more models & increase production. Then all the quality control issues began. I know first hand as I bought a brand new Sportster XLCH in 1974 at the age of 22. Nothing but problems from the first week & I got rid of it after just 6 months of misery. I hope Royal Enfield is not going down that same road but the warning signs are there. Buyer beware. I love my 2020 and have no interested in buying any of the newer models. Your 1959 is most likely a much better bike. Cheers from America.
You make a good point regarding expansion of models and with it the decline of component quality and quality control. From what I have seen and heard I don't think the general quality has declined, I think my issues are just one of those things. The "59" is a great British bike of it's time and great on a sunny days ride. tht said like most British bikes of that time it does need constant care and attention. When its running well it's glorious.
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3v Yes, I agree. The old bikes are great fun but can also be frustrating. I posted your video on Royal Enfield North America Owners Group Facebook Page of which I am a member. Some people were outraged at the video with one saying it was BS & should be removed. Others stated they have the 350 & have no issues. I told them it is a good video to watch & anyone buying a new bike should give them a good look over before purchasing so they have no unwanted surprises when they get home. My 2020 Trials Replica has had no issues. I have just over 3000 miles on it. Two chain adjustment & oil changes. I did have to replace the sealed beam headlight as low beam went out & have replace the cats eye bulbs twice due to vibration. I keep it under 50 MPH and things are fine. Back lanes only. It always draw interest when parked somewhere as most people over here have never seen a Royal Enfield up close. Thanks again for your video.
thanks for the encouraging comment. I have watched a couple of your vlogs and there's some great stuff in there and will be watching more. Have subbed.
I’d be fuming with the dealer for letting a new bike go out in that state Good luck with the bike I have heard that the spokes and the speedos aren’t up to much either But it’s cheap and it looks nice
Already having an Enfield 500 Pegasus edition and being quite taken with it, so when the Hunter 350 arrived it grabbed my attention. It's looks are great, ride and handling same, but it's just so slow!! Like not really fast enough to keep with urban traffic, bit like a learner 125. That really was a disappointment because if had just 30 bhp I would have bought one, no hesitation. Fortunately Triumph came to the rescue, the Speed 400! Wow, what a machine, in it's own right, but at £5000 it's like cheating! I have bigger, more powerful bikes but I can't keep off the Speed! I've been riding bikes for many decades, had a large number of bikes, so can call up considerable perspective, but even so, the Speed is one of the most homogeneous machines I've ever ridden. Punchy, very willing engine, flexible but will also rev for England! Sharp, responsive and stable handling, excellent build, fit and finish, superb brakes, looks superb and has a very integrated style, nothing looks stuck on or out of place. The only two things I've found to be slightly anomalous are, it has no coolant temp indication on the display and the tacho display is way too small, thats it for the cons! So I would highly recommend that anyone looking for a new, lightweight bike in the £5k bracket, to test ride the Speed 400 and the Scrambler version, I doubt you will be able to resist buying one! Oh yes, I forgot, 10,000 mile service intervals, including the oil change! Just an annual inspection if that mileage isn't reached within the year. Personally I'll be changing oil annually regardless because I'll never cover that mileage in a year.
I have a Hunter, it cruises at 70 and I've had 83 downhill with the wind behind me. :) Perhaps your test bike was still tight, it's a lot faster than any 125 and much faster than city traffic.
@@patrickcolclough2423 You must live in a much calmer area than me, urban traffic around here is savage, the Hunter I rode wouldn't have a chance! Even my 500 Pegasus struggles at times! The Speed 400 is a different matter altogether. Even when running in it was more than up to what I was looking for. It really does go like hell for a 400 but at the same time is very flexible. Actually, it's so quick that the first 2 gears are way too short, so I'm going to raise the gearing, that will make it less frantic on A roads and motorways.
Congratulations on this video, the video and audio were excellent. Regarding the side cover issue, that is most definitely a warranty job and the dealer will have to replace the whole cover body. I hope they look after you as in my experience dealers are a bit hit and miss. All the best from Tasmania.
You are being very generous about Royal Enfield... if it were mine i would reject the bike without question ... unforgivable lack of quality control regardless of the "bargain " price . Ive seen whats involved with removing the center box and its hours of dismantling work ...on a new bike its just not on.
@@WyreForestBiker well you have to give the dealer a chance though in the UK as we have no lemon law and if you buy a dodgy one they have to have the opportunity to fix it , they may just get straight onto it and fix it without any argument
I have had a good look around, and everything else looks fine, with no evidence of other damage. No doubt I will get to the bottom of it. I will be doing an update as soon as the dealer has had a look. Re my old "59", I have had a few requests on this so I will def make an episode about that at some point.
I love my Hunter 350. No issues. You have brought up some good tips for things to look for when shopping and picking out your bike. I'm sure the dealer will do the right thing and correct the problems. Enjoyed your video. That 59 looks like a beauty! Subscribed!
I have been to the dealers and I will be posting an update episode shortly. I have had a lot of interest in the "59" so will also be doing at least one episode on that in future also.
In my experience those two things on your bike are not typical and you’re right to go back to the dealer especially for the electrical cabinet issue , pointing it out is a good thing as it may be an issue that is specific to that model, i have a meteor and its absolutely fine its is a fireball model but finish is generally very good and is now nearly a year old and without any special care has survived last winter salty roads and all, i do rinse off with fresh clean water after salt has been down , and the only paint blemish i have is under the front of the tank theres a guard plate behind the headstock that has a slight weld spatter under the paint but its flawless apart from that and to be fair if you message Stuart Fillingham he will openly discuss the two paint issues he has had with his red/ chrome classic , he did openly put those up on his channel and if you have a nose you will find them , he does however defend the RE 350’s on their mechanical worthiness which i have to support as mine only has 2400 miles on it but has never given me any cause for concern and I’ve definitely had worse bikes , hope you get it sorted and look forward to seeing a follow up on that 😁
I'm 100% with you. I don't think its typical and thats why i'm not going to swap it out or try and get a replacement. When all is said and done its a piece of plastic that's deformed. It happens, i was never as upset about it as many of those who have commented. Rest assured it's staying and I'm happy to hear you are enjoying happy trouble free miles. RE Uncle Stu, have seen those episodes on his channel myself.
I had a problem with the sticky speedometer. I could’ve used the warranty, but I chose not to. I do all my work and the speedometer was not that expensive. It took like 15 minutes to replace. I haven’t had an issue since.
Yeah and do you know what? I could probably fix the issues, quite satisfactorily myself, but I really want to see what the dealer has to say and the level of warranty service they provide.
The chrome plating issue on your foot rest looks to me like it’s been sprayed with silver paint where it fits into the foot rest rubber for some reason. Try removing it and you might find chrome plating underneath 🙂
Hope you get these issues resolved to your satisfaction. There can be nothing worse than buying a new then having problems after all that is the point of buying a new bike.Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction and carry on with your videos .
I have a red and chrome (betty) faultless with 1800 miles now When you consider the price compared to any other bike around. Its so Comfortable to ride and I have ridden and owned all sorts of bike. I service my own bikes now as I think on the whole dealers are a rip off. I do have a local guy for jobs that I might struggle with.
I totally agree. Glad your putting on trouble free miles. Considering the basic setup of the bike, a single with two valves the servicing costs are way off the mark. The trouble is dealers know that you have to keep it maintained for the warranty and know that most riders will do it themselves once that periods over so have a limited amount of time to "cash-in"
First thing, I have enjoy your video and have subscribed as I will be interested in the outcome of your 350 issues. I have the red chrome version and I've just checked mine and fortunately it's OK. When you are at the dealers check the others he has, it should fit perfectly and work smoothly with the key. Fortunate that you took it out in the rain, as you may not have spotted the problem for a while!! As for the grey paint around chrome areas, I too have it on the foot pegs and also the upper end of the chrome exhaust down pipe, also underneath near the silencer. It's quite messy and annoying!. As someone has commented RE seem to chrome pieces then weld afterwards allegedly, not good practice. Apart from that I love the bike. Hope you get it sorted under the warranty. Enjoyed your video. Pete 👍
Many thanks for subscribing Pete, much appreciated. The other side box works perfectly so have a good comparison to work too. Agree spotting it literally the second ride was fortunate so no long term damage done. A few people have commented regarding the Silver/grey paint, luckily being stealth black it has so little chrome and only appears to be on the brake pedal. like yourself I love the bike and I'm sure i will get the issue sorted one way or another. I will be doing an update so lookout for that.
Very interesting video, I have a Gun metal grey model, I hope you get the problems sorted with the dealer, have subscribed to see how you get on, luckily no issues with mine. 👍
fair points them fella, the sidebox is a right pita and needs attention, that peg should really have not got through - easy fixes of course but come on QA, do your job - it's annoying as you want to take it back because that box will need a new shell, lock (it has clearly been stressed) and inner shell but you know then it will be ages without the bike .... pain in the ass
Hi love the bike sorry you have had problems so soon i hope all will be fixed i to had problems with my bike from new and it takes away the fun i look forward to see it all fixed i have subscribe see you next time
It happens, and will get resolved I'm sure. The bike is great and I'm not going to let what is more of a niggle at this point spoil my enjoyment. Happy riding, keep safe.
It certainly looks like the plastic body has deformed, it's also quite grey compared to mine. I'd like to think they'd order another for you. That middle screw comes from the outside and goes in so probably hasn't lost its head, the head is just hidden underneath (and unaccessible!) usually. Hope you get on ok
I was umming and aring about getting a Royal Enfield after I passed my full bike licence about 6 months ago. Honestly, I'm glad I steered clear. The 350 range in particular seems to have a whole host of small issues that, when put together, adds up to be a major pain in the bum. I think it's an issue with build quality and cheap materials. I adore cruisers always have so the first bike I test rode after passing my test was a meteor 350 also tested the classic 350. They where okay but felt sluggish, cheaply put together and juddery under breaking also dangerously slow considrering you could take them on a motorway or dual carriageway. Following this I kept looking I ended up buying a Honda Rebel 500 and it's perfect. Same price as the enfiled I test road as its an ex demo bike. It's far better put together, feels safe and stable and doesn't leave me wanting more power. Hope you resolve the issue with your classic, my dad had one until it's electrics decided to have a meltdown. He's now saying he won't touch a royal enfiled again and honestly that's all I've heard. Far better classic styled options from other firms for just slightly more money.
Never read about these issues before, I did watched "hundreds" of YT video's and read the comments to but not so much negative ones, there's always someone who has bought the Friday afternoon bike, I looks like the Norfolk Rider bought one to... Hope the dealer clears the issues.
thats interesting that you have seen issues elsewhere with the range. I think, the Rebel is a very different bike and it's a honda of course. As I said in the video, the modern Enfields are built to a price point and sometimes you get to see where the savings are made. that said ven with a couple of what I would call minor issues, they are still a great bike, represent great value for money and I have no regrets buying it as a second bike. Time will tell!!
It happens. I thinks these are easily resolved minor quality control issues. I do love the bike, it begs to be ridden and even after many decades on bikes Royal Enfields do have something quite unique to offer in the riding experience.
I really depends on what you are looking for i guess. If you want one reliable everyday bike then I would agree there are better options. If on the other hand you want a bit of a Sunday rider or a project, the Enfield is a great option especially given the range of after market spares and accessories. The Enfield is not my main bike I have a Triumph Speed twin 900 for longer distances and faster A to B journeys but I do love the Enfield for the country lanes, though, its perfect for that and as solid as a rock on the rougher Norfolk Roads. I will get the issues resolved I'm sure and will make a follow up vlog about the dealer response and action.
Great video - you did well! A happy accident. I have a Marsh Grey Signals and have done 1700 miles now. As you say, it’s a great bike for bimbling down lanes on at 50 mph. The issues I’ve had are rattling headlight and sticking speedo when sunny. Common problems. The engine is noisier than I thought it would be, but cheap smiles and miles. I’d be interested in seeing more of the ‘59 Clipper.
Couldn't agree more with your comments 'Cheap smiles and miles hits the nail on the head. I have had a lot of interest in the "59" so will be doing an episode on that in future.
Hi Norfolk Rider I live in west Norfolk also, I purchased a Royal Enfield classic reborn in gunmetal grey in early June this year, just over 2 weeks ago I was having problems with the speedo where the Speedo needle would not go back to zero and then my indicators stopped working, So a phone call to the dealer to get it booked in and looked at I was asked to bring it in that day but I could not I was working so I took it in the next day good service by the dealer I thought, the Speedo is going to be replaced under warranty and indicators was fixed that day, I've still got a issue with the bike which I will talk to my dealer about, It is a nice bike but it could be better (ie quality control wise)
That speedo gremlin seems to be prolific. I have not heard of the indicator problem before though. I would agree, great bike but seems in certain cases to be let down by poor quality control in some areas.
You gave a very good review looking just at the brake pedal that piece of bent steel is a very poor way of designing a crucial part of the foot brake gear. As you say they are very cheap bike and realistically corners will have to have been cut. Saying that I would much rather give my cash to an Indian company than a Chinese one, also some of these reviews on bikey bits don’t always say you have to pay vat on some imports ( like dash cams etc) keep up these good reviews
Over here in St Louis Missouri we have 1 dealer, who is mainly a BMW dealer, but I follow weekly it seems he always has several low, low mileage RE 350's...what does that tell you? Get rid of it quick !!!
In my 20 odd years experience with enfields there are always buyers, who make a purchase only to find it does not suit them or their usage is outside the limits of the bikes capability. When I look at any dealer of any brand they always have stock of super low milage bikes where it just wanst a good fit, RE is probably no different. This still feels like a solid stable bike. I'm sticking with it as I do love the character.
That side panel is a shocker. I have a Classic Red Chrome and fortunately have no faults. My 2020 500 trials has no faults ans I have a 2005 Es iron barrel, bought new, that has only had a broken throttle cable. Maybe I have been lucky. You see that silver paint on the chrome bits here and there especially at welds, not fantastic I know. I wonder if your bike has fallen on its side at some point before you got it. Good luck with the dealer. Edward.
Hi Edward, I have also had quite a few Enfields and for the most parts have been pretty good. I'm good with the bike, as I have said at the price point I accept a few bits and pieces here and there, but its nothing that's not fixable. The main let down is that these sorts of annoyances are so easy to recify from a quality control perspective. Happy riding.
Living in the north of Scotland it is over 250 miles to my nearest 2 Enfield dealers and the sole reason why I am not riding a Classic 350. It is a pity Enfield has not made my nearest bike shop(20 miles away) a service agent.
I think that's a potential issue for many would be owners and even more so in other countries. have you enquired with your local bike shop if that would be a possibility, I know its a long shot but if you don't ask you don't get.
The term royal is which means quality is hidden mist since it is manufactured in india. Its got some quality control issue i have the 2024 classic same color .
I think all manufacturers have their quality issues and RE is no different. Its how they are dealt with that really makes the difference. Happy riding.
Very informative thanks...but you could really cut down on the word count. The video could easily have been half as long and still covered the points easily. Please don't take this as anything more than constructive criticism.
It is annoying but I do love the bike. I'm with you on having to correct things on a new bike, but I have decided to customise it myself so perhaps not so much of an issue.
I've the Stealth Black too, and am almost on my first 1K miles. I've changed the tyres to something more 'aggressive' & hopefully cope with our shite road surfaces better (Cumbria). Decat and opened the breathing too, which has made her more torquey. No issues at all to date, and I'm well chuffed as a returner biker who's only ever ridden 'thumpers'. I'll be looking at maybe a Triumph 900 Scrambler next, then an oldie to tinker with in the barn. Just a polite note: as a fellow Brit, I often notice verbal Americanisms float across the pond, most of which I just ignore as our current English gets me through life perfectly. But one 'chalkboard/blackboard' intruder is "pricepoint'. It seems a fairly recent introduction, yet says nothing more than the original word "price". I've seen 'Uncle Stu' fall into this affectation too, which is sad. I had a 30yo overwinter on my land, and although I speak clear, Common English, he'd regularly ask "what does that word mean?". So, I'm just venting that not only are we losing many of our words and names, we're also becoming Americanised by stealth.
My plan is to do similar light mechanical mods that help remove the restrictions to let the bike breath a little better. Your plan is very similar to what I have done myself. My Speed Twin 900 for faster further distances, and my old 1959 Enfield is the ongoing project. Re Americanisms, I use pricepoint as in a price bracket range rather than a specific price but I take your point.
Yes, but i have seen worse on much more expensive machines. A friend of mine had a BMW GS800 that had losse engine mounts that was missed during PDI. Makes my issues seem minor by comparison.
After nearly dying of boredom waiting for your Gripes about your Royal Enfield, Eventually i got to it 😔, Why is it? You fellas that come on TH-cam or Facebook, With new Royal Enfield bike's with minor things wrong, Never think 💭 to just contact your Dealership you bought it off,? There's a Three Year Warranty, There's Even a Free Royal Enfield breakdown Phone number to call to get you to the nearest Royal Enfield Dealership, if your bike isn't working? And yet bloke's like you still come on with problems, It's an assembly problem, that could be solved by the dealer for Free! No worries, As a so called experience motorcyclist, Start by telling people first your having to do a warranty Claim Hey 👍 The Dealer Will Have to Fix it 👍 This is certainly Not a Common thing. Cheers Paul 👍
Hi Paul, many thanks for taking the time to comment. Regarding your boredom, I get it and i'm working on that in subsequent episodes. I am brand new to this so picking up a phone and making the first couple of episodes, is a challenge and things are bound to be rough around the edges at first. I'm sure every TH-camr's first attempts are fraught with no no's from an audience perspective to begin with but they learn and hone their craft as they go, which I will do my best to do with limited time, resources and experience at this point. Regarding notifying people that i'm making a warranty claim, and the dealer having to fix the issue this is all mentioned in the episode and reiterated in the many comments I have had since. My motivation for making the episodes was to provide real world experiences from one everyday consumer to potential consumers for things to look out for when buying new or second hand classic 350. My second motivation was to provide follow ups again for potential consumer benefit relating to the experience and service provided by the dealer in the event of a warranty claim, and going by the 14k views and several hundred positive comments a few people are interested in these types of scenarios. As I Said in the original episode this was never a rant, or a negative stab at RE, in fact just the opposite, I love the bike, will get the issue resolved and will continue enjoying riding it and I would buy another in a heartbeat. You have your opinion about "blokes like me", and I truly welcome your comments and respect your views. As a non professional TH-camr, with no financial affiliation, sponsorships or even any interest in channel monitisation, I think that gives consumers out there some hope that there are blokes like me who will share information and experiences knowing that its completely unbiased and not influenced in any way by third parties or their wallets, unlike so many motorcycle based channels out there today. Keep safe and happy riding.
I'm just over 100 miles now, and am loving it. Tempting fate but everything else is spot on, so loathed to try and go for an exchange. I will get the quality issues sorted and just enjoy it for what it is.
Being the owner of a 350 classic and a gt650 the footrest play is the Same on both bikes and it’s worse on my Honda,Harley and Aprilia makes no difference when your foots on it the white paint is put on the brake lever it’s the same paint they put on the end of the chrome exhaust header it’s not flaking off if it bothers you just clean it and the chrome is underneath as for the side panel mine tends to miss align if I leave the cover open on a charger for days just push the bottom part up as you close the door once closed for a few days the plastic realignes itself job done.
thanks for your comments, the footpeg issue seems to be pretty common based on feedback. There is def an issue with the plastic housing. it has a clear kink at the bottom, which I suspect has happened in storage at the factory prior to assembly, its just a little frustrating that its not been picked up as part of their quality control process. That said the dealer failed to notice it and so did I in the first instance.
I would agree that there are some basic quality issues, but RE are not alone with this. To be honest I have not seen or heard of any real "leave you stranded by the side of the road," reliability issues, in fact quite the opposite, most owners seem to applaud the reliability.
Good start mate. I'm down the road in Ipswich . Running a 350 classic red and chrome for 2 years now. Zero issue's all my own servicing ( £300 for two valves and an oil change is ridiculous) Retired so a fairweather rider .. Yup lots of cleaning but I have the time and find it therapeutic. The plating issue may be silver paint . it seems nowadays on Enfields they weld after plating. not prior. On mine I found much of it could be removed to get back to the chrome which was just sloppy brush work .
Yep, will be doing all my own mechanics where I can. I love the look of the classic red and chrome, but wanted something I could ride all year round and not have to be too precious about keep in sparkling condition. Added to which I thought I might do some paint work at some point to customise it a little and would not have wanted to go over all that lovely chrome. Good shout about the silver paint, I will check that out.
Yeah, I noticed that too but to be fair even many experienced tubers make the same mistake. As long as he doesn't start playing music too he'll be fine! Tubers that have bike and car channels that use music to replace engine and exhaust noise annoy the hell out of me!!
It's unfortunate but I do love it for what it is. I have had many Enfields over the years so perhaps i'm a little more tolerant than most. I still thinks its a good solid riders bike.
The problem with the all new Classic 350 is that they had to use the new 'J platform' to create a kind of photocopy of the original Classic 500. The new platform works fine with the Meteor and Hunter but superimposing the Classic 500 look upon it has caused some problems. Pretty much everything about the new 350 is fake. The battery isn't even inside the battery box. That is just a square bit of plastic now in the new 350, with nothing in it. Fake. The battery is now hidden deep inside the side box that you have an issue with. It is also hidden behind loads of plastic and wiring, making it difficult to get at. This used to be the air filter box on the 500 and was all metal bodied, as well as having a metal lid and is therefore pretty much waterproof. Not so on the new 350. It is plastic and made for show, not for long term practicality. The flimsy rear brake pedal and finish is another example of poor design. The one on the original Classic 500 is a thick tubular design. Very robust and well finished. Even the optional sprung seat on the 350 is fake. The springs are fixed, non working, they are real on the Classic 500. Even the oval side box on the new 350 is plastic. Metal on the 500 and it is a genuine throttle body cover. Don't get me wrong here, the new J platform is a great modern platform and the 350cc engine is fine (if you don't mind taking the tank off at every service to adjust the tappets, unlike the 500) but the all new Classic 350 is just pure fakery.
Having had many Enfields over the years, including the 1959 Clipper 350 I still have, later indian 350 and 500 iron barrels, and Electra 500 and an EFI I would agree there are some compromises with the reborn version. That said, It's still a great bike for the purpose for which is was designed and a great platform if you want to customise it to your own liking, all at a cost which is within the grasp of most people. Time will tell if it's mechanically reliable but from everything Ive seen and heard, the J series platform engines, are pretty solid and won't leave you at the side of the road, unlike many of the "classic" Enfields Ive owned over the years. Is it like the originals, no, but like many people who buy these, myself included they want the enfield charm and character which is does still have, classic looks, modern day reliability and at a price they can afford, and it does tick all of those boxes.
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3v I have my redchrome for 2 weeks now and I'm pretty pleased with it. Sure, it is a simpler design like my Guzzi Griso but what do you expect... it'll be the bike which is very likely to last my lifetime it brings not only a smile on my face but to many when I ride it LOL!!! Yes the levers are simple and the batterie box a bit cluttered but the loom in the bike looks pretty decent to me. When your issues are sorted out you'll not worry about thos minor details. I noticed there was a Halcyon black version as well. The Halcyon grey and the redchrom are my fav but I'm keen on a high gloss black classic too NOT the Bullet (seat). last weekend I ceramic coated mine and need to polish the engine cases later. It is a learning curve to keep a chrome version pristine. I added a Beeline moto2, big pedals and the cruise seat(winner on bad roads and speed bumps), Next weekend belt drive conversion. I like mods for comfort but keep the engine as it is. adjustable hand levers and heel/toe is on my list too with a luggageside bag but the brackets are not available... The only things I am considering to keep her clean is a fender flap or engine guard and I am condidering to add a rubber flap on the front of the rear mudguard. It's a great simple little bike with very decent sound too! have fun! Erik
That's side panel is horrendously fitted shit, I will check mine, what I have found with my 350 it's like riding in gravel as I'm riding it, I've check rear wheel aliment check tyres as best as I can do all ok steering headstock ok so god knows what's up with it.
The side panel is something I've never seen before. I have experience of dozens of these bikes as I used to sell them for a living. The doors always fit perfectly. I would say that the door has been sat in the open position and somehow been impacted which has distorted the hinge and screwed up the alignment. Again, this is a new one on me. And, which way are you turning that key to unlock it??
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3v The new 350 isn't a patch on the final Euro 4 Classic 500's mate. Not nearly as good. Yes, you are right about the old bikes. No doubt there and the new 350 engine is great, if you don't mind taking the tank off at every service but the new bike is nothing like as good as the last of the line 500's. Less vibration, yes but everything else is either fake or poor quality.
I love both bikes, and for what I wanted I'm still well happy with my purchase. The issues will get resolved and I will continue to use it for to enjoy the country lanes and accompanying sound track.
I know, but i literally picked up my phone and started recording my thoughts and the issues as I thought it might be of interest to anyone buying no planning first episode and lots to put right but take your point 100%
@@petedawson8257what a ridiculous comment…. So to that standard you can’t comment on or critique food unless a chef? You can’t have an opinion on politics unless a politician? You can’t oh I dunno…. Critique a motorcycle unless a bike builder?
Looking at getting one of these as a first bike. Thank you for highlighting some issues I’ll be sure to check on before purchasing 👍💪
Very interesting video. Thought provoking. I look forward to seeing part two. 👍
The update is up if you haven't seen it already.
I’m sure that’s silver paint on the brake pedal. It’s used a lot on the chrome version. Where the exhaust pipe goes into the motor for example.
Good call. You're the second person to mention that so I'm going to have a look to see if it is just overspray of some kind.
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3vI think it’s brushed on .
As a prospective purchaser of a classic or meteor found this interesting. Looking forward to seeing future mods to your bikes
They due come with 3 year warranty so I’m sure they will fix the issue. I have a 2022 classic reborn and mine did not come with any of these issues
And I think that's the case for the vast majority of 350 owners.
Its MrT the plastic inner part not been moulded right or stretched when still warm ie not handled right I used to work w plastic moulding machines
Yep, more than possible. There is a def kink in the curve of the plastic casing at the bottom.
I'd be interested to see how the dealer handles this issue.
I will be heading up there as soon as I can and will make a part 2 follow up on their response.
The dealer won’t do ananything as there’s nothing wrong with it
I have a 2023 Classic 350. Great ride, but it has a duff speedometer. Cleaned the contacts twice, which solved the problem temporarily. Returned to the dealer for a warranty replacement. Seems to be a not-uncommon problem.
I have had many Enfield and virtually every model ever made has an achilles heal. the speedo seems to be the main 350 one.
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3v Thank you.
After I watched your video, then went out to the garage to check my classic. And whadaya ya know? Exactly the same, side panel issue! The plastic battery box is not strong enough to properly support the weight and the mounting bracket seems to be slightly out of position so when tightened it pulls the box out of shape. 😢
Very interesting, When you say "mounting bracket" are you referring to battery box or the main plastic box?
as an retired qa inspector of many years and a former bike and car mechanic and the owner of a meteor and a classic, love them both, i have a pre ride proceedure after collecting the bike from the showroom, as they are such good value bikes something has to be missed during production to keep production costs down, my latest one, the classic, like yours, has a big gap at the front of the battery cover but the moulding fits everywhere else so i just stuck some draft excluder on the inside of the cover and my charger flying lead exits there, a lot of the problems come from production line building where alot of the parts are sub assembled prior to fitting, on both of my bikes the rear mudguards were out of line, a small amout of grease was on the rear axle but the front ones were dry built, some of the cables were wrongly routed and there is no anti sieze compund on the brake pad pins or sliding points, i sorted all the iffy bits myself without bothering the dealer, my missus thinks i'm a bit OCD, whatever that is, my first enfield was an interceptor in 2019 and in my opinion the lack of antisieze compound on the calliper parts led to a calliper recall eventually, mine never suffered the problem as i don't ride in winter and i had it 3 years, the calliper recall was only carried out by the next owner, hope this helps.
Still super happy with it. No regrets and it will get resolved one way or another. Update episode coming soon.
7:09 - your trusty helper looks very knowledgeable🙂
He always knows where NOT to be, if that helpful......
😊
Spot on, and thanks for the poetic prose. I'm not put off by a few niggles for what is a great little bike well capable of all sorts of adventures.
The lock is ok and fits wel
Chrome footrest is fine.
I would suggest you ask your dealer to change the plastic ele tricalbox and rh side lid etc.
These are sub standard parts on your bike in my opinion.
Hope this helps
Regards Mike N
Hi Mike, I have been to the dealer and there will be an update episode shortly.
Glad all is well with your Signals. Great colour and was on my shortlist.
Don't worry about the missing paint on the levers. I purshased a heeltoe lever and it's similar in finish, however, it is clear to see this is a thin layer of metallic paint.
Yes, on advise from others I'm going to try and clean it up.
Very nice video. I am interested in this bike and have subscribed to your channel in hopes of a satisfactory resolution and follow up. I'm in the US but love watching the British reviews on the Royal Enfield. Thank you and all the best!
Many thanks for your comment. If you have not already seen it, the update is out.
I have been to the dealers. Update Episode coming soon.
I'm sure this is going to be a simple fix, I have had good look around
and everything else looks and feels fine. I will be doing an update so keep a lookout for that.
I for one would love to see a video on your 1959 Enfield 😀
You and about 50% of those who have commented so an episode is planned.
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3v Excellent 😃
A great insight hopefully you’ll get a good result and service off your dealership this is when you find out what they are truly like🙏☺️😀 hope all goes well well it’s a budget bike but sounds amazing I’d buy one👍
I have been to the dealer and there will be an update episode shortly. As I have mentioned in other comments. I love the bike. A few niggles yes but I have known people with bikes costing more than three times the price with more worrying issues.
I’d love to see (and know) more about your RE Clipper.
Thank you 🙏
I have had so many requests on this, so rest assured I will be posting an episode on this in future.
that bike looks awesome!
Yep, my thoughts exactly re timescales. Update Episode is in the pipeline.
nice video, i stopped it to get a cup of coffee, and relaxed and very much enjoyed, i have the gun metal grey, not a fan of polishing my bikes, again liked the video , will keep watching , and waiting on the next video thanks
Thanks for your comment. Update is available.
Just do those videos it’s a start and you’ve done the hard bit well done.
thanks for the encouraging comment. I have watched a couple of your vlogs and there's some great stuff in there and will be watching more. Have subbed.
I’d be fuming with the dealer for letting a new bike go out in that state
Good luck with the bike
I have heard that the spokes and the speedos aren’t up to much either
But it’s cheap and it looks nice
@@patrickcolclough2423
You must live in a much calmer area than me, urban traffic around here is savage, the Hunter I rode wouldn't have a chance!
Many thanks for the feedback re audio and visual quality. An update episode in in the pipeline.
Great bikes! Enjoy the many miles to come
That's exactly what I'm going to do.
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3v grest to hear. I hope one day i have my own classic 350. Somehow they just click
Side box issue looks significant and maybe it has had a bad knock in transit. I would be interested in hearing about your old RE.
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3v hair dryer usually does the trick but im sure the dealer will look after it anyway
I have done over 10,000 miles so far, the only issue is the speedo, which stopped working. I have new one on order.
Happy to here you have enjoyed 10,000 miles with minimal issues. Good luck with the new purchase I'm sure it will be absolutely fine.
Well, on my 2024 Dark Stealth Black, left peg loose too, but rear brake pedal is black, not chrome plated! ;)
Its a weak, spring and can be replaced by the dealer or yourself if you have the tools in ten minutes.
The chrome plating issue on your foot rest looks to me like it’s been sprayed with silver paint where it fits into the foot rest rubber for some reason.
Try removing it and you might find chrome plating underneath 🙂
Thanks for the tip. Update episode coming soon.
Hope you get these issues resolved to your satisfaction. There can be nothing worse than buying a new then having problems after all that is the point of buying a new bike.Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction and carry on with your videos .
I'm sure I will the issues resolved one way or another, and to be honest they are more of a niggle than anything else. Still love the bike though.
The trouble is dealers know that you have to keep it maintained for the warranty and know that most riders will do it themselves once that periods over so have a limited amount of time to "cash-in"
We'd love to see more of the 59"Enfield
Yes, I've had so many request. Episode planned.
Yep, I will be making a follow up shortly to update everyone on the dealers response and actions.
fair points them fella, the sidebox is a right pita and needs attention, that peg should really have not got through - easy fixes of course but come on QA, do your job - it's annoying as you want to take it back because that box will need a new shell, lock (it has clearly been stressed) and inner shell but you know then it will be ages without the bike .... pain in the ass
Update episode is out with more detail, but the part is not stocked in the UK and will have to be ordered from India, waiting on timescale.
good to meet you. lovely clipper apart from anything else. safe riding!!
59 Clipper episode planned.
My Interceptor had a warranty issue. RE sent replacement part and dealer happily fitted. It took 3 months but this was during covid.
Yes, it will be interesting to see lead times if anything needs to be completely replaced. I will be doing an update so keep a lookout for that.
Every bike has little issues. Fix them that gives you “ownership”. Enjoy the riding experience.
My sentiments exactly.👍
It certainly looks like the plastic body has deformed, it's also quite grey compared to mine. I'd like to think they'd order another for you. That middle screw comes from the outside and goes in so probably hasn't lost its head, the head is just hidden underneath (and unaccessible!) usually. Hope you get on ok
Yep, thats my thought. Re the screw, you are 100% correct, thanks for for the heads up on that one much appreciated.
Had my 350 back in march i must admit I’ve haven’t had any issues with mine you seem to have a Friday build
It happens, but will get sorted one way or another.
@@jvogel5027 I've seen the opposite alot of the 350 range don't cut the mustard, it's not worth the risk. Hence why I went with the Honda Rebel 500
thats interesting that you have seen issues elsewhere with the range.
I'm always surprised that the so called pdi doesn't pick up these things, should it be going out the door like that 🤔
This is not a Japanese motorcycle. It was designed in England and built in India. What do you expect?
@@fuglbird we expect proper and correct quality control and a good PDI 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Norfolk Rider
I live in west Norfolk also, I purchased a Royal Enfield classic reborn in gunmetal grey in early June this year, just over 2 weeks ago I was having problems with the speedo where the Speedo needle would not go back to zero and then my indicators stopped working, So a phone call to the dealer to get it booked in and looked at I was asked to bring it in that day but I could not I was working so I took it in the next day good service by the dealer I thought, the Speedo is going to be replaced under warranty and indicators was fixed that day, I've still got a issue with the bike which I will talk to my dealer about,
It is a nice bike but it could be better (ie quality control wise)
That speedo gremlin seems to be prolific. I have not heard of the indicator problem before though. I would agree, great bike but seems in certain cases to be let down by poor quality control in some areas.
You gave a very good review looking just at the brake pedal that piece of bent steel is a very poor way of designing a crucial part of the foot brake gear. As you say they are very cheap bike and realistically corners will have to have been cut. Saying that I would much rather give my cash to an Indian company than a Chinese one, also some of these reviews on bikey bits don’t always say you have to pay vat on some imports ( like dash cams etc) keep up these good reviews
thanks for the comment, glad you found it useful.
Your bike was made on a Friday afternoon !
Best thing I bought was my 24 classic 350
Totally agree, I'm still well happy with it and its not going anywhere at this point.
Would be keen for a video review of your Triumph 900 Speed Twin. Subscribed 👍
I have had a few requests so will be making one for that in the near future.
WOW that side box is a really bad fault the dealer doesn't have a leg to stand on bike swap I would say
They should replace the whole compartment under warranty. It's obviously a quality issue.
See my update episode if you haven't already
@@TheNorfolkRider-p3v Will do mate.
Very informative thanks...but you could really cut down on the word count. The video could easily have been half as long and still covered the points easily. Please don't take this as anything more than constructive criticism.
Fair point well made and taken in the spirit it was meant. Everyday is a school day. No doubt I will get better with experience.
I'm happy to fiddle, repair a vintage. But new no way. I think I will buy an old 500.
I prefer nonprofessional vloggers.
Thanks for the vote of confidence.
That side casing is shocking!
Yes, but i have seen worse on much more expensive machines. A friend of mine had a BMW GS800 that had losse engine mounts that was missed during PDI. Makes my issues seem minor by comparison.

50 miles on the clock.....take it back and get a new one.
I'm just over 100 miles now, and am loving it. Tempting fate but everything else is spot on, so loathed to try and go for an exchange. I will get the quality issues sorted and just enjoy it for what it is.
I would complain to dealer they will correct it
Don't ride in the rain
A bit difficult in the UK where you can get all four seasons of weather over a couple of hours.

In India, Modern Royal Enfield motorcycles are really unreliable and has got serious quality issues😑.
Zero issue's all my own servicing ( £300 for two valves and an oil change is ridiculous)
Retired so a fairweather rider ..
Need to get to the point and stop apologising for every comment, otherwise think he has a future. Thanks for no bad language
Yeah, I noticed that too but to be fair even many experienced tubers make the same mistake. As long as he doesn't start playing music too he'll be fine! Tubers that have bike and car channels that use music to replace engine and exhaust noise annoy the hell out of me!!
Thanks for the feedback, I did not that myself on playback, and made a mental note to rectify that in future episodes.
I'm with you on that one. Rest assured no music over anything that remotely sounds like anything to do with an engine.
This is plain shoddy, I nearly bought a 350 meteor. I'm wondering if Stuart fillingham is being paid by royal enfield.
He just bought a BSA !
It's unfortunate but I do love it for what it is. I have had many Enfields over the years so perhaps i'm a little more tolerant than most. I still thinks its a good solid riders bike.
Not all rosey in the BSA camp from what I have read.

I have my redchrome for 2 weeks now and I'm pretty pleased with it.
It's a budget bike. However the side panel should be watertight
Stick to Triumph 😊😊
I love both bikes, and for what I wanted I'm still well happy with my purchase. The issues will get resolved and I will continue to use it for to enjoy the country lanes and accompanying sound track.
I'm not buying this bike, quality issues.
It took until half way through the video to get to the point - quit flapping your gums and get to it !
Yep, could not agree more, will rectify in future episodes.
He finally starts discussing the issues at 11:06!
Agree, could have been more direct, will rectify in future episodes.
I skipped the first five minutes
A bit long winded but am working on presentation.
Why don't you just get to the point and stop whinging.
5 minutes and you haven't said anything
I know, but i literally picked up my phone and started recording my thoughts and the issues as I thought it might be of interest to anyone buying no planning first episode and lots to put right but take your point 100%
