When they came out with slide that was a game changer for the funk era, that song was hard as hell. Everybody hit the dance floor when the DJ put it on. "Are You Ready For Love" is my favorite. The haunting and harmonious background vocals and bridge along with the vocal styliings of the lead singer and overall rhythm are hooks for me. I play it in my car to this very day. Slave should have received more recognition than it had received. R&B/Funk would not have been the same without their contribution.

Thanks for sharing all of this history of one of my favorite funk bands from the 70's. I listen to their music, but I never really read up on their history. I didn't know that the band had so many members to come and go in the band. My H.S. yrs. was in the late 70's, and I was into "The Funk". This band was high on my list of funk bands that I was into. My favorite Slave songs was "Watching You" and "Just a little bit". Steve's vocals was unique and so recognizable. Mark Adams was one of my inspirations to wanting to learn to play bass. RIP BROS.
Just seen Slave at the Juneteenth festival 2023 Carson California. They got off. Just as funky as when they came. Some bad dudes and gals. Slide is my favorite.
Well …. With their land mark song “SLIDE” … I think the group may deserve a spot in Hall Of Fame …. That song is landmark in the era it was released . Anyone who would even him that song just out the blue should at least know who it came from
Slave not only deserves any HOF recognition out there, they should be mentioned alongside the greats of Motown, Stax, PIR, etc. l personally consider them Black Radio Royalty (Yes I said Black). Despite the lineup changes and musical trends, they stayed true to the funk( or Fungk) and didn't crossover. YOU had to crossover to them. Respect to Slave and the family tree( Steve Arrington's HOF, Aurra, Deja) RIP to all of the fallen members and Justice for Mark Adams ⚖️. Favs are Slide, The Party Song, Can't Get Enough Of You, Stellar Fungk, Coming Soon, Stone Jam, Watching You, Feel My Love, Snapshot, Steal Your Heart, and in case you thought I forgot, Just A Touch Of Love is timeless, still sounds like the first time each time!✌🏿
Slave is an incredible group. Mark Adams was an awesome Bass player with a great style and a distinctive sound. to this day, no one sounds like him RIP.
@@myklallen7184 He came closest, yes. Him and Jimmy crafted that to gain success off the backs of Watching You. The original "Inside Out", written by Jesse Rae, has the same melody and lyrics but doesn't groove anything like that.
FEEL MY LOVE! Can’t believe no one mentioned that one from the Stone Jam album. Smoothest, mid tempo, r&b groove ever. A perfect song. Just A Touch of Love is a flat out classic masterpiece also. Slave and Aurra are both unsung funk icons.
As a kid growing up in Toledo, OH, slave was a major inspiration for myself and our band, while we were still in high school. I was bass player, and had the chance to meet Mark in Dayton when I was about 13 years old. Mark’s influence of heavy out front bass lines is still heard in the music that I make today, .. under the name of “Mork XL”

Slave is my favorite funk band of all time. In my opinion Slave's best songs are not just there radio hits. If you are a true Slave fan you dive deep into all of their albums. For example everything on "The Hardness Of The World ". My favorite cut is "We Can Make Love". "Showtime" Lp , The whole album is "Smokin". My favorite cut. "Spice Of Life". "Stone Jam" Lp. The whole album is BAD!!! Same thing as there debut Lp "Slave" I love all them cuts. Slide is one of there best ever cuts but my favorite on that Lp is "Screw Your Wig On Tite" and "Happiest Days". Last thing I will say is when you listen to Slave don't sell yourself short by just listening to there hits because you will be missing out. In our lifetime there will never be another band like this. Enjoy it while its out there. Slave fan forever!!!
thank you for the content.. well done.. yes the original group deserves a HOF nod hopefully before we lose Steve "fearless leader" Washington..all of that group has passed away
I was a teenager during the 70s, but more importantly, I was also learning to play the electric guitar. I had already been listening to hard, rockin' funk courtesy of the Isley Brothers 3+3 with the illuminating Ernie Isley. Slave was like the Isley Brothers band on steroids in many ways. The lead work on "Slide" set my teenaged guitarist's soul on fire, but like a true devotee of the funk, I learned the rhythm parts verbatim. You know how nobody gets to play Led Zep's "Stairway To Heaven" in music stores? Nobody ever stopped me from playing "Slide!" Indeed, I have often called "Slide" the best funk song of the 1970s, so I figure you can guess that I'm voting for "Slide" as Slave best song. (I can just hear people sayin', "Gee, ya think!?⁉"😆)
*Eastside Low Bottoms sh*t !* _Tappin' in from South Central LA_ My favorite songs by Slave to listen to and lowride to are Snap Shot, Watching You and especially Weak At The Knees. 🤯 Mindblowing !

My favorite songs from Slave are Just A Touch of Love, Slide, Watching You & Snapshot , this group definitely deserves to be in the hall of fame, Ohio Hall of Fame if there’s one or Dayton Hall of Fame R&B Hall of Fame Rest In Peace to members of Slave the thing I know about Mark Adams was that he was murdered and as far as I know that his case is unsolved but I heard that one of his sons has take up bass playing in honor of his father.
Slave was one of the funkest rock bands of all time. They deserve so much more than what they got. It is no way you can deny their impact on all music especially R&B. I grew up in Kansas and never got to see the original group perform live. But I did see Steve Arrington in concert in 2016. What a show!! Just A Touch Of Love has a few weaker cuts but the other albums through 81 are strong from beginning to end.

I'm 60 and slave featuring Steve Arrington, one of my favorites!
SNAPSHOT!
Slave Was The First Funk Rock Pop Fusion Band Ever! Epic Unique Funk Rhythm And Blues Albums Are "Stone Jam" And "Showtime". Next Level
Steve Arlington's Album "Hall of Fame " is an classic funky album that stills sound relevant.. play "Weak At The Knees " at our last cook out.. should've seen the geriatric Uncle s and Aunties funking with a purpose.. 😂
I had the pleasure of meeting Mark Hicks and Leroy "Sugarfoot"Bonner of The Ohio Players in concert '09. They autographed a promotional poster for me that I hang proudly in my Man Cave. My favorite cuts are Wait for me, Snap Shot and Slide.
Slide, watching you and just a touch of love are my favorites by Slave
I would also like to acknowledge trumpeter Maestro Delbert C. Taylor, Jr., who passed away on August 28, 2014 at the at of 63, and guitarist Kevin R. Johnson, who passed away on September 28, 2021 at the age of 65. Delbert was part of the band for the Show Time and Visions Of The Lite albums, and Kevin was part of the band on the Show Time album.
Yes!
R & B HALL OF FAME!!!!!!!!
YESSSS 1,000,000,00 PERCENT
My jam was Wait for me.
"Just a Touch of Love" and "Sizzlin Hot" are my 2 favorite grooves.
My favorite Slave jams are Slide and Feel the love that song remind me of my ex from high school we dance to that song!! Slave is very talented its amazing these guys had their first hit while in high school
RIP BROS.
Just a touch of love
I got that lps
Just seen Slave at the Juneteenth festival 2023 Carson California. They got off. Just as funky as when they came. Some bad dudes and gals. Slide is my favorite.
Slide, Just a touch of Love,Watching You.
Truly an unsung band. Yes, they deserve hall of fame induction
Well …. With their land mark song “SLIDE” … I think the group may deserve a spot in Hall Of Fame …. That song is landmark in the era it was released . Anyone who would even him that song just out the blue should at least know who it came from
My favorite song from them Watching Ladies Watching You
Slave not only deserves any HOF recognition out there, they should be mentioned alongside the greats of Motown, Stax, PIR, etc. l personally consider them Black Radio Royalty (Yes I said Black). Favs are Slide, The Party Song, Can't Get Enough Of You, Stellar Fungk, Coming Soon, Stone Jam, Watching You, Feel My Love, Snapshot, Steal Your Heart, and in case you thought I forgot, Just A Touch Of Love is timeless, still sounds like the first time each time!✌🏿
Justice for Mark is coming soon 🙏🙏🙏
Slave is an incredible group. Mark Adams was an awesome Bass player with a great style and a distinctive sound. to this day, no one sounds like him RIP.
Yes!!! You said it!!!
The late Sandy Anderson, R.I.P. was the only bassist that could sound like Mark Adams.. He can be heard on "Inside Out" by Odyssey ❤
@@myklallen7184 He came closest, yes. Him and Jimmy crafted that to gain success off the backs of Watching You. The original "Inside Out", written by Jesse Rae, has the same melody and lyrics but doesn't groove anything like that.
One of my favorite bands. I still have and play my two favorite albums from when I bought them new. Slave and The Concept. Thanks.
I just recently found this channel and I love it keep it up!
Appreciate you putting this documentary out about slave. I love that group been looking for a documentary. You gave them their flowers.
Watching you
Slide, Just a Touch and Watching You are my faves. Yes! They deserve a HOF induction. Rest well Roger Dodger Parker.
This my favorite R&B group growing up my favorite songs were Just a touch of love Watching You I’ll be gone Lonely girl I still play these songs today they never get old definitely should be in the hall of fame thank you for this they never get enough credit for how much there songs touched us all oh yeah I like Party lites too 😊Starting all over was another song I loved 😊
Slide, Just A Touch Of Love, Watching!!!!!!!!!
Watching you,snap shot,wait for me,nobody can be you,dancin’ in the key of life,way out,just a touch🕺🏽
The guitar solo for Slide is one of greatest rips I've ever freakin' heard!
A Touch Of Love, Slide, Watching You
thank you for the content.. well done.. yes the original group deserves a HOF nod hopefully before we lose Steve "fearless leader" Washington..all of that group has passed away
*Eastside Low Bottoms sh*t !*
_Tappin' in from South Central LA_
My favorite songs by Slave to listen to and lowride to are Snap Shot, Watching You and especially Weak At The Knees. 🤯 Mindblowing !
Not too many hits without Steve but I was definitely feeling them. Steve Arrington's solo stuff was everything.
Many many underground hits though.
Favorites: Slide, Stellar Fungk, Watching you, Snapshot. And the bassist work with Aurra kicking out "Are you single" & "Make up your mind" YESSIR!!! Mark Adams was a beast on the Bass!
Correct me if I'm wrong but there's some discrepancy on who played bass on the Aurra hits; that wasn't Mark Adams.
Mark wrote songs for the first album of Aurra
@@FallGuy467 Mark played bass on two tracks - When I Come Home and Who Are You. Bassist Buddy Hankerson (Young & Co, Steve Arrington's Hall of Fame I and II) held down the bass duties on the other tracks
@@SheenaDamico Hey Shee, it's Doug
Slave Rock And Roll Hall of fame
Stone Jam and Slide are my two favorite Slave tracks.
I will always cherish what Slave did and there impact on music as a whole. Of course they deserve to be in the hall of fame too! Greatness exemplified! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🤩🤩👏🏾👏🏾
Way Out was my jam! I also love Snap Shot, Slide, Just A Touch of Love, Stone Jam, and of course, Watching You!
Yes they deserve a hall of fame
“Hardness of the World” is one of the greatest Funk/Rock/Fusion albums ever. Still in constant rotation of my playlist.
Snap shot, watching You, slide, and a touch of love. I thank you for their eposode🎉
Slide and a touch of love❤
Was Just blasting Slave's "Snapshot" & "Watching You" the other day.
Slave got some 🔥 songs.
Watching you was our favorite song me and all my friends that grew up in the projects in the Bronx... With the boombox
Absolutely awesome,loved all the jams🔥🔥
Glad I've Got the Best of Slave on CD.
@@maureencora1 you need to get the full albums (CD or vinyl). That “Best Of” barely scratches the surface of their catalog. Every album from the first one in 77 through Show Time in 81, plus the first Steve Arrington Hall Of Fame in 83, is worth having. Just A Touch Of Love has a few weaker cuts but the other albums through 81 are strong from beginning to end.
@@mcmarcuschapman Touche' (smile)
"Sizzlin' Hot" and "Starting Over" really stood out for me on the Stone Jam album. "Just a Touch of Love" and "Thank you" stood out for me on the "Just a Touch of Love" album.
I have The Best of Slave on CD. My favorite jams are Slide, Just A Touch of Love, Watching You, and Wait For Me.
Shout out to Reggie "Moon" Morgan, gifted guitarist from Dayton!!! Miss having you in California! You were our direct line of information about The Ohio Players & Slave! I wish you were here to slap my brother upside the head for turning his back on music!!!
Marc Adams awesome bass playing Bass distinctive compared with Steve Arrington distinctive vocals Awesome
YES! SLAVE absolutely belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Sizzlin' Hot is my favorite, Slide and Snapshot are the runners up. Sorry, it's like Lay's Potato Chips, no one can pick just one...
Wow thank you for a superb video post. SLAVE were a fantastic band . They were extremely underrated. Their albums stone jam showtime and unchained at last were funk classics . Mark ( the hansolo) Adams superb bass grooves should be studied in musical university's 🎼 . Steve Arrington was a fab singer and great thumping drummer. Danny Webster was incredibly underrated floating style singer / lead guitarist. Wayne Foote was also very cool on lead vocals. Aurra were also a super cool band/ they were slave with smoother vocals . My fav slave song 🎵 hmm Just a touch of love , steal your heart away and watching you. Fav Aurra tracks were , when I come home to you., are you single and still free . Young & co another great band sounded very similar to slave.Fav songs, Waiting on your love , I like what your doing to me and checking you out were fab funk tunes. The double cd by Slave funk essentials is definatly worth checking out. There were so many fantastic funk bands from ohio , Slave was one of them , for me the best .
My Dayton peeps. 937 in da house!
937 !!! The Land Of Funk !!!
This content was great 👍🏿 in my family my older brother was the music man so when he heard something he immediately brought it home and I listen to it the first time I heard slave I think I was 7 or 8 years old in Oakland California, I don't know which one is my favorite all I can say is a lot of them, that band and those songs hold some great teenage memories for me 👌🏿👍🏿
Watching you is my pops theme song. Remember riding with him on a Saturday afternoon bumping that joint
"Watching You", "Can We Spend Some Time", "Slide", "Stone Jam" and "Just A Touch Of Love.'
I was 15 when Slave their self-titled album came out. I still listen to it.
Screw your wig on tight is my favorite. They also had great slow jams like "Happiest Days."
Hardness of the World album. Volcano Rupture, Baby Sinister, Life can be Happy, We can make Love. Don't get me started with the Steve Arrington era. I could go on all day, but I think I made my point. One of my favorite bands of all time.
Wait for me! A mega jam!
My favorites by far has to be Drac is Back, Stone Jam, and Sizzling Hot. Those bass lines are classic.
There is no Hall of Fame without Slave. Whether it's Funk or Rock and Roll.
My favorite Slave songs are: Coming Soon, The Way you Love is Heaven, Drac is Back, Just Freak, We’ve Got Your Party, Slide, Son of Slide, Can’t Get Enough of You, The Party Song, Volcano Eruption, Just A Touch of Love, Warning, Thank You, Starting Over, Watching You, Stone Jam, She’s Just That Kinda Girl, Snap Shot, Part Lites, Smokin’, Wait for Me, Steal Your Heart Away, For The Love of U, Fukentown, I’ll Be Gone, Stay in My Life. As you can see, I have 26 favorite Slave songs. My favorite Slave album is; The Concept. Those young brothers were playing their asses off! The musicianship is off the charts, for teenagers. RIP to those whom have passed!
Very good. I have all of their songs and been a fan from their first album. One of great unsung funk groups. For me Stone Jam, Just a Touch of Love and Show Time were their best albums.
Showtime deserves a Grammy to this very day!!
Slave was 1 of my favorite groups of all time
