This episode ushers in a new sub series under our Logos Series titled, "What Jesus Said About Prayer". The focus of this episode on, "Not Praying Like the Hypocrites and Heathens", teaches us to check our motives in prayer.
Unlike the example of the hypocrites who pray for people to see them praying in public or the heathens who pray assuming that their vain repetitions will earn them their rewards in prayer, we are advised to take prayer as a private act which we do with all sanctity in our closets.
Pastor Tunmise explains further that the admonition of Jesus for us to pray in private is not an issue of Jesus denouncing public prayers but an admonition to keep our focus on God in all our prayers regardless of the presence of other actors while we pray in public or in a congregation.
