Not sure if this helps anyone but I wrote it down:
    Step 1: Left hand arpeggios:
    - D, F#, A, D (2nd time stop at F#)
    - B, D, F#, B
    - A, C#, E, A
    - G, B, D, G
Step 2: Right hand triad (inversions):
    - D major: root (D, F#, A); 1st inversion (F#, A, D): finger 2 instead of 3 and move hand forward; 2nd inversion (A, D, F#); root and back
    - B minor: root (B, D, F#): hand slightly forward; 1st (D, F#, B); 2nd (F#, B, D); root and back
    - A major: root (A, C#, E): use C# as landmark for hand movement; 1st (C#, E, A), 2nd (E, A, C#); root and back
    - G major: root (G, B, D), 1st (B, D, G); 2nd (D, G, B); root and back
Step 3: Line up arpeggio notes with chords (first with one note per chord and finally with two notes for every chord!)
Bonus: end with A and D (left) and D major (right)
I’m waiting for my piano delivery (haven’t played for like 8 years) so I’m preparing my practice exercises! Thanks for the great video!

    Dear Lisa,
I have followed your lessons for 7 months and you’ve made me believe that an old dog (can) learn new tricks. I’ve told you before in a previous comment that I’ve always wanted to learn to play piano. I was apprehensive because I have Shrapnel damage to my Left hand and some of my fingers aren’t able to be as flexible as I would like. It was so hard at first but you once said that I could use the finger position that works for me. So I did and it worked.
Through constant practice and believing in myself I’ve not only learned to play basic melodies but my understanding of chords, notes, arpeggios and so much more is becoming second nature to me. I am so proud of my progress that as a birthday present to myself I plan to signup for your full course. I’ve just turned 61 Yrs old this month.
I’m playing not for fame or to impress others, but for me and me only and I couldn’t be happier.
Your enthusiasm, energy and infectious smile has made me believe in myself.
    Thank you so much.
    Kevin M. Thompson, Cincinnati, Ohio

As an adult, I took piano lessons close to 20 years ago. After several years away from the piano, I've been trying to get back to playing. I've picked up my old lesson books, but for the most part, I'm not enjoying playing. I am so happy to have found Pianote. I've only checked out a few of your lessons but I am already more interested and excited to be playing. Thank you

@Matthew Philip I find I'm more commonly playing block chords in the right hand, and bass figures in the left. I just use different inversions to also reach the melody notes.
That said, you always want to practice what you don't play as much. You get a lot of practice in what you do normally play.
Plus, what you say is far more true of certain other styles, like jazz. My jazz chops suck because I'm so used to chording in my right hand, and being my own bass player.

Who are these 102 people giving this marvellous stuff a thumbs-down? Why even do that? If it's not your thing, just move on. Why be like that? It's not like there's anything offensive here. Puzzled.

Some people just want to see the world burn.
This was maybe recommended and they disliked it because piano is not their thing and they hope it will go away.
The majority of negativity about is not a reflection of the person or content we think it’s related to. The negativity is usually a reflection of the way the person giving the negativity feels about themselves or has failed to realise about themselves.
102 people either don’t want this content or need some help to be happier.

I can finally do 8-key scales with both hands at 80bpm without screwing up! I've gone my entire life believing I simply can't play instruments. Been practicing a lot of the beginner stuff y'all recommend, and it's beginning to feel comfortable, I want to step outside those boundaries and push things, mix things up, and this is perfect. It's just the right amount of theory and practice. I busted out my notebook and am taking notes on what to practice day to day.

What about “upgrading” this exercise by additionally switching hands so that the left hand plays the chords and right hand plays the arpeggios?
Would train both hands more evenly

Yes I heard that from another teacher online : and it seems also we can create our own training tips // one of mine is to try to play a constant arpeggio rythme on the left while I change rhythm arpeggio chords on the right hand... as I need to get independence of both hands... piano is a great instrument ! I used to play bass and guitar .. since young age .. but never needed independence of both hand is almost the opposite !!!

As someone learning jazz piano, that was my exact thought. Plus, doing this with every chord type (min 7th, maj 7th, dominant, half-diminished, fully diminished, min/major, altered dominant, etc., etc.) in every key. 🤣🤣🤣
Seriously, though, one should start where one is and make it a bit more complicated. "Challenging, but doable" (- Ruslan Sirota) is the sweet spot. And to have fun wherever you are. Otherwise, you end up in the "20 years of practice and never good enough" trap.

    • @petermcmurray2807
      @petermcmurray2807 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The beauty of Lisa's approach is that she constantly reminds one that progressions are not carved in stone. I love jazz and was confused by the predominance of 2 5 1 then I found Charlie Parker, Barry Harris - 6th diminished scale, John Coltrane - Giant Steps, Miles Davis - Witches Brew and to cap it off Pulitzer Prize winner Ornette Coleman with Harmolodics. Music is an expression of the soul it is not defined by mathematics. Maths is simply a language that is used to describe styles of using Natural Vibrations that the human ear appreciates.
