    Great video. I have connected my vfd and set the configurations according this video. Everything works perfect, but I still have one question. In the Spindle setup I entered 200 in the field for the PWMBase Freq. Now I measure a PWM signal at the AVI terminal of the BOB with a frequency of 1000Hz. Should this not be 200Hz? What could be the reason? What do I have to change to obtain 200Hz?

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel

      Yes, I would use a relay. In the VFD manual, you will notice that the FOR, or REV will run if connected to gnd. You can see where I use a relay with this board here: th-cam.com/video/Qi4M3DAtTXg/w-d-xo.html

    Great vid, thanks a lot for sharing! Quick question: I have the same Mach3 breakoutboard that you have here, do I need a VFD to digitally control my AMB (Kress) spindle? Or can I use some simple relay wizardry?

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my understanding, the Kress plugs directly into the wall. If you wish to control the on and off of the Kress, you can use a simple relay. There is a speed controller on the Kress, but you would need to research someone that has already done a teardown and applied some kind of functionality to make the variable speed work.

    Is there a parameter on the VFD that needs to be changed in order to start and stop the spindle? I understand that the source of operating frequency needs to be changed to 1, but I'm curious if there is a separate parameter for the start/stop function. I am using the same USB board and the same vfd/spindle combo, wired the exact same way you have it in this video and the outputs video. Im assuming thats pd001

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there is a parameter that allows you to use the external terminals instead of the control pane. The parameter number depends on the specific VFD, but I believe the HY VFD is PD001. The terminals you will need to use are FOR and DCM to run the spindle in the forward direction,

    • @rapterkingofthebrozone7490
      @rapterkingofthebrozone7490 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BuildYourCNC it was yes! I had to fiddle with the ports and pins tabs after setting the vfd though because the dual relay I had ordered had a faulty side and of course that's the one I originally wired to.

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You might need to add some inductance to the signal cable from the controller to the VFD. You can use a ferrite toroid and wrap the signal several times through this toroid. Also, make sure you are using shielded cable. The number of wraps should be around 5, but refer to the datasheet of the ferrite toroid to determine a better value.

    I cant seem to get spindle speed control from mach3. I am able to start and stop the spindle, and the speed DOES seem to be set by the mach3 software but i am unable to change the spindle speed from what seems like top speed. I have have done everything (wiring, programming, and vfd parameters) the same way you have it set up in this video with the same spindle, BOB and vfd that you have in this video.

      @rapterkingofthebrozone7490 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For anyone who is in a similar situation, in this video it isn't mentioned but there is a jumper to the right of the terminals on the vfd that is set to VR by default. It needs to be moved to the VI pins instead. This will switch the '1' option under pd002 to actually being externally controlled, instead of that option being the built in potentiometer knob. In addition, pd070 needs to be set to '0' as that is the selection for 0-10v pwm.

    NEVER NEVER use a PWM for speed control your Spindle. VFD work only with analog input. You must use an PWM to analog converter between your board and VFD. You can burn your Spindle a weird sound like a high frequency and spindle run too hot, you can domage spindle. The VFD didn't work with a pulse.
