So after 20 plus years of playing this game across numerous platforms, I had no freaking idea that you could procure the shotgun off the gun shop owner right at the beginning of the damn game! It's awesome to learn new things about older (awesome) games years later! Thanks for this 20 year old belated Easter Egg for me to learn! I'm sure it's a well known fact about this game by now, but I've always played RE2 my way and never though to see if I could get the shotgun so early in the game. Damn!
It wasn't underrated. It was just overrated in the USA where there are plenty of Mario fanboys. Gamecube pales in the comparison with what other consoles offered.
I still have this Gamecube version! I still love it!! The remake is ok but i find the original '98 to be better and more iconic! Such a retro PS1 classic!
This game and the episode number one before were so well made that it made me replay video games in 1996, after having not played for a few years on my Amstrad, animation were amazing and it looked like an interactive movie to me indeed, good job, now we have real simulations on Ps5, Tomb Raider, Red dead redemption two and so on...
ok yes, playstation was superior to amiga which of course was a fine machine, but revolution came with Playstation, better than Saturn, Tomb Raider is the main witness, and the catalogue was too weak to beat the playstation maybe that's why Saturn put the key under the door as we say in France (or ate the frog, bouffé la grenouille)@@PH96Official
I just started watching a longplay video by a different channel, and they completely missed the shotgun and the handgun ammo from the beginning after the store owner got attacked through the glass. The player rushed out and never even saw the attack, just heard the glass breaking and didn't even go back to check. That's when i knew something was wrong, it seemed more like a speedrun than a longplay, but even then i don't understand why would anyone leave the shotgun. I never played this game but i would definitely go back to check after hearing the scream and the glass breaking. I mean, it's only logical that he would drop his shotgun. Or at least check out of curiosity. So i searched for a different channel and i was happy to find a video by LongplayArchive, i love how you check things in detail just the way i would play. This channel is truly a gem, the games you play and the way you play, without commentary, everything is just perfect. From now on i'll always check your channel first for any longplay i'm looking for, and i'm sure you'll have each and every one of them.
one reason to skip the stuff in the beginning is that it will spawn Brad below the RPD entrance and he will drop a key. He only spawns if you skip all item pickups up to that point
I used to play this game through just so I could experience it from start to finish, if I had TH-cam back in the late 90s I probably would have been even more anti-social than I already was
Claire Redfield's jacket has the words 'Made in Heaven' written on the back. This text is a direct reference to the Band Queen and its album 'Made in Heaven'. During the end boss battle, Ada Wong suddenly appears and throws a rocket launcher weapon that can be used to kill the boss. The same thing happens at the end of Resident Evil 4. According to the official Capcom page, Wesker was there when Ada fell and saved her. This would make sense as Ada joins forces with Wesker later on in the series. The game came out during a particularly important period for 3D gaming, as 1998 saw other notable releases like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998), Metal Gear Solid (1998), Banjo-Kazooie (1998) and Half-Life (1998) change the gaming industry economically and aesthetically. First Resident Evil game released on a Nintendo console. The original had a game boy color version but it was never officially released. Although the N64 version had better character models, the FMV cutscenes ran poorly due to the fact that the console was cartridge based. After the tanker crashes into the police car during the opening cinematic, a "No Trucks" sign can be seen among the burning truck wreckage. I still have this game in original and the dual shock version with a ps1 console, I play trough the game like every 3-4 months my favourite game of all time…
I wish I could go back in time re-play the games for the first time. The fear, the curiosity of what’s behind the doors, not knowing what monsters to fight.
I remember buying RE Directors Cut (the one that promised uncensored content but didn't deliver) just to get the demo for this. This franchise was amazing back in the day.
When Marvin said “Rescue the Survivors in the other Rooms” i thought it was gonna be like “Dead Rising” with actual survivors that needed to be escorted to a safe place like the armory or something like that.
the resident evil 2 remake is probably the best game in the series next to 4 and one of the best games I've ever played but the OG Resident Evil 2 still has that old school ps2 era charm to it that can't be duplicated.
Those old Korg MIDI sounds for all the music are SO much freakier than modern samples an productions. Something about them not being perfect is so earie and freaky.
Give me this original version any day. After experiencing the remake, there's no doubt Capcom actually knew what they were doing when they made this original.
Still love playing the original version of RE2 on my Dreamcast as it's a near perfect port of the PC version of game with crystal clear FMV cutscenes that are otherwise compressed on all other versions, especially the N64, but that's not surprising for an older cartridge format at the time.
How I wish when my gamecube was still with me,( Sold it some years ago) that I 've would have had all the Resident Evil games that were released on it, the only ones that I had were RE4 original and remake of Re1, I probably would have kept it!

Being both made by Capcom you notice This Leon Kennedy bears a resemblance to Cody from Final Fight (1989) even both wearing White Adidas like Superstar shoes
Wait. This was great. But, after Code Veronica the game play started to get repetitive. My favorite Resident Evils are 1,2, 4. But, I understands if you prefer playing on this format.
I still have the original cartridge since I was a kid on the N64. I'm 31 yrs old now. Gives Nostalgia till this day.
Me too it's the best version in my opinion it has alot of exclusive features the only version with a surround sound mix the impossible port
That's what up

Same i was suprised i never thought about picking up his gun
You don’t go there in the remake one and this one I will miss playing it’s a part of my childhood
Gamecube was ahead of its time, especially in graphics. I miss gamecube sometimes.
This was a good bit before Gamecube but yes, under rated system.
It wasn't underrated. It was just overrated in the USA where there are plenty of Mario fanboys. Gamecube pales in the comparison with what other consoles offered.
this soundtrack to this Resident Evil game is awesome but yet haunting at the same time. makes falling asleep to this is amazing.
Ah! The classic Resident Evil 2 game. My first Resident Evil game.

The classic version is still the best to me, especially the Gamecube one.
It will always be the best one.
Subjective, I prefer the remakes. Games with pre rendered backgrounds are aging badly.
@Rick Ross opinions are subjective. You do you.
I love the originals, played with my older brothers back then but the RE2R is the best game of the franchise!
Yeah, the remakes can't come close to the originals. Only REmake from 2002 on Gamecube did it right.
To this day, I started playing this again finishing multiple runs. Such a great game.
Look at how clean those animations were for the time... can't imagine how long that took to render.
