    So, idk if anyone told you. The premium OEM stereo actually had a sub and an amp. That white plug is the power to the speakers, I believe. Changing to the premium double din honda stereo from the LX basic stereo isn't a plug and play affair. And it may not work as intended because those other plugs are NAV and backup camera and lane departure camera, the other 6 speaker ports.

    This video was super helpful to me as I bought an entire 2013 Interior including the non premium head unit (screen) and the automatic climate controls to put into my 2015 LX. It does bother me that you use all the wrong terms for the most basic things/tools though :)

    Thanks for the video. It helped me disassemble and connect mine. Unlike yours, the sound on mine works like the original one, and that's because you used a radio with the premium amp connector. You must get one without that connector if you want it to work. I'm now working to find a way to make call controls work, and connect the reverse camera to that screen instead of the small one in the dash. Also ordered from Aliexpress the HDMI and USB connectors to improve it

    So I think there are 2 model radios a 9XC0 and a 9XC2. I believe what he installed was a 9XC2 which means it does not have a built in amp and is supposed to run off an external amp where as if it was the 9XC0 radio you wouldn’t have a low volume issue as this particular model has a built it 160w amp. You can tell the model by looking at the upper right corner of the faceplate

  • @ThatDudeArvai
    @ThatDudeArvai 3 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    The reason the volume sucks is because on a premium sound system it relies on an external amplifier for powering the speakers. Since your car didn’t have it, the head unit is solely powering the speakers when it wasn’t designed with enough power to do so.

  • @christianalessi1104
    @christianalessi1104 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I had just tried this retrofit. From what I noticed the volume isn’t as loud as my original radio so I turned it up to 11 under settings still not as loud but better, second the radio info no longer pops up on my smaller screen on the dash, third the auto climate controls do not work due to not being able to connect the sensor that measures the cabin air temp due to missing harness in the dash. And last steering wheel controls no longer work but I believe I heard that was an easy fix. My main concern is the volume not being as loud as my original radio despite turning it to 11 under system settings and also loosing the visibility of the radio in the smaller screen next to the speedometer. Does anyone have a fix on this. This was done on a 2014 Lx with 4 speakers. Radio came out of a 2014 EX-L with at least 6 speakers from what I saw. Did not see a subwoofer in the back

    It's not that it's cheap metal screw. You are probably using the wrong screwdriver. All Honda's cars use JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screws. You need to use JIS screwdrivers. If you don't you'll strip the screws and would have to replace them.

    I have a few questions. I have a 14 LX sedan. I have been wondering if this was possible for years and clearly it is. First question is do you need the vehicle vin to get the anti theft/unlock code? Can you get that code with out the vin? Can the LX climate control be mounted to the EX radio bezel to eliminate the issue you were having with the EX climate control and what was the solution to the volume. I’ve played with wiring and harnesses on older civics I just want to know what to look for when I tackle this. Idc about lane watch and the USB function

    • @thereviewandhowto2550
      @thereviewandhowto2550  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anthony Rodriguez hey so to answer one of your questions you can mount the climate control from your car to it. And you might need the vin number but I would call Honda or go on the website to find it. As for the wiring part it has to do with the USB harness. One of the viewers figured it out and posted it in the comments. I hope this helps and if it did consider subscribing for more videos. Good luck and message me for any other questions

    Hi mate. I know it's been quite a while since you did this vid, but wondered if I could ask for your help please? I'm actually installing a Pioneer DAB head unit into my 2014 Civic, and whilst I've installed it and it powers up, I just don't get any volume and instead have 'Audio Off' on the HUD. It doesn't ask me to input the radio code or anything like that. I tried restarting the head unit to no avail. Do you have an ideas? I had to re-install the factory radio which then also said 'Audio Off' but all I had to do was hold the power button down for 2 seconds and voila. Tomorrow I'm going to try again and this time I'll try and press the reset button on the head unit and see if it cycles the power or something. Thanks!

There are positives if your willing to work on fixing the volume but for me I went aftermarket for I knew it would be a more easy option and have more potential in the end. It’s been awhile lol. So one user said that it’s a fix in the settings but I never found that. The other fix had to do with the USB harness. And yes volume went up and down and you had some steering wheel controls at least, which is a pro and if you hack it you can from what I heard put hondata to it. I know it’s been done for the 10th gen but not 💯 on the 9th gens. Me towards the end I went with a pioneer dash cause I got most of what I wanted for much less the headache. jean lenor hey if you read the comments a viewer found out to fix the volume you need to use the usb harness from the premium radio and wire to your old usb harness. I never went that route cause I also wanted navigation and that would involve a separate harness so I went with a aftermarket pioneer radio

      The review and how to would you recommend buying one on eBay? I found some online I want it. I have the standard version lx. I’m worried the seller will scam me and give me a bad stereo. I can’t find any of these online that are new.

    • @thereviewandhowto2550
      @thereviewandhowto2550  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manuel Macias I went with a aftermarket cause I wanted gps and it’s more of a project with that unit. And you have to wire the usb harness from your car to the usb harness of the premium unit. With that said I bought that unit off eBay. If you go that route go with one where they sell the unlock code and make sure they give you the connections to the rest of the unit

    • @manuelmacias5192

      The review and how to so if I buy one with the connection and the code then everything should be fine? Like will I be able to get the rear view camera to the bigger display and the volume will it work or it’ll be low like in the video?

    • @thereviewandhowto2550
      @thereviewandhowto2550  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manuel Macias it will be low until you tie in the usb wire harness to the new one. That should fix that problem. One of the viewers found out it and posted in the comments below. And the camera still appears on the smaller one for me. I never figured how to move it.

      Soft Art Beauty I put in a aftermarket sound system. So I believe the solution is the pre amp the part that gives the bulk of the power is on a separate wire harness that you would need to get from Honda. I bought mine from eBay and it just came with the head unit no wires
